Breeders Cup

That graphic they used of Zenyatta was painful. It made her looked like a broom tailed, roached back, upside down neck critter. Very unbecoming and nothing like her.

I watched that clip thinking how thankful I am that horses don’t actually look like that. I might not be a rider if they did! That thing was scary…

Sad to see Mine That Bird coming down the stretch tailed off like that.
Had no business being in there

I’ve noticed that every video clip I’ve seen of Zenyatta she has ear plugs. Is that SOP or unique to her? Even in the stall she’s got white ear plugs in.

Dakota Phone beats Morning LIne

by a nose well, it’s a photo, and looks like Gayago is third and Cool Coal Man fourth

Yep, time to let Mine that Bird go to the farm. Sounds like that is the plan for him.

Are they retiring MTB? Or just giving him a break?

Why on earth did they choose to run him today?

Mine That Bird

what do they do with the geldings tho? What has become of Better Talk Now? And what will they do with Precious Passion? Do they go hunting? Run over fences? I know some do and some are just pasture puffs, but I think he is a little young to just stand around.

I am hoping Queen Z will win, but I cannot for the life of me understand why the connections haven’t challenged her this year. Maybe last year, but when she won, who is gonna beat her? It seems to me they don’t trust her. Like you say, Goldi has beaten the colts 8 times! Does anyone think Z couldn’t? I think the dirt won’t matter, all the boys have beaten each other, and as was noted on another thread, this stretch is longer than the California tracks which will I think HELP her. I know they have been looking at the record books but they seemed so upset last year when Rachel beat her for HOY, and I just think the company she has kept this year to be the equivelant of the Bronx Bombers beating the Little League World Series.[/QUOTE]

Easy, they don’t want her to lose. Not to take ANYTHING away from big Z, but the “quest for perfection” really does seem kind of shallow now, doesn’t it, after watching Goldikova and knowing all she has done to conquer Europe and the Breeder’s Cup. I think the greatest horses have all lost at some point. There is just something that resonates with fans about that take-all-comers attitude that some horses (such as Goldikova) are campaigned with. Which is (maybe this is for another thread that’s been beaten repeatedly…) why it is so obvious to me that Rachel Alexandra was HOY. Even though she was only three, when she beat one level of company and established herself at the top, she moved progressively forward and when the going got tough, she held on and won harder and harder races.

They said on the broadcast that they were going to take him to the farm in New Mexico if he finished off the board today. No elaboration on what he would do there if anything… at least that I heard, but I’m multitasking which damages my hearing, ;-).

Zenyatta wears earplugs to normalize the noise levels around her. She has so much attention - cameras going off, people visiting and talking near her stall, media constantly around - earplugs level everything off a bit.

Whoever owns them tend to just retire them to the farm. Some of them get second careers. Funny Cide tried ponying at the track (transporting the horses around) and he liked it, though he was a little “fiery,” so they fully retired him and gave him to Kentucky Horse Park. Funny Cide’s brother, Homicide, did some hurdles, and With Anticipation (champion turf closer in the early 2000s, one of my favorite horses of all time) retired and is being ridden now as a foxhunter on his owner’s farm. He looks super cool leaping a fence in foxhunting garb.

I’m not sure what has become of BTN but his rabbit (Shake the Bank) is owned by a COTH’er

Mine That Bird should’ve been retired a couple races ago. Dude, let the man leave with some dignity. All Derby winning geldings are not made the same as he’s no Funny Cide!

I’m sorry that Nick Zito has had one annus horribiliss for 2010. That good guy couldn’t seem to buy a victory for one of his G1-level runners. Nick I wish you all the best for 2011.

Seriously, do the racing folks not know that ear bunnies come in colors???

I would think there is so much more noise and activity around than is normal, even for her, that they want to dull it down just a bit for her.

Goodness gracious they’ve brought Mutton Chops himself back to the Breeders’ Cup - John McCririck from across the pond. Yikes!

You are so kind! Always trying to add info to my empty head!
TVG is showing racing Arabs! Sprint time of 1:17 for 3/4!

Thanks Sunnydixie!

Amen Tarragon! I keep thinking brown or black would be far less distracting, but it actually looks like cotton to me so disposable ear bunnies may sway the day.

Mine That Bird surely deserves a break. But if he grows bored on the farm I’d be happy to drive on down to NM and pick him up and see how he likes hunting.

Holy Cow - John McCririck is calling it as he sees it with the soft schedule for Zenyatta in 2010.

Me thinks the pickfork and burning torch mob will be assembling in Louisville looking for Mutton Chops! Run for the hills.

Mutton Chops… :eek::rolleyes::sigh:
