Breeders Cup

Life At Ten looked to calm in the saddling paddock, dull even, not like she was about to race. She looked like she was trying to colic to me. Hope she is OK. The vet at the gate should have checked her.

I wouldn’t say that Garcia stayed on, rather that somehow, possibly with an assist from Borel, he was able to get back on a horse that was trying to stand back up in the middle of a pack going 40MPH. This was one of the top 10 recoveries of all time… Maybe even better than that.

I’m waiting to see the slo-mo replay.

I was wondering, with LAT, Pletcher came down to the rail (very unusual for him) but is he barred from talking to his jockey when they are heading to the post?

Seems like the best option would have been he and John V. to talk, I bet Pletcher would’ve pulled her. This way, all they could do is sort of look at one another and wonder what the other was thinking. I think V. did the best he could, giving her a start in the gate, then recognizing she was not right and easing her along.

In hindsight, they probably wish they’d said in the paddock, If she does not warm up well, scratch her.

Now … ONTO TO TODAY!!!

GOOD LUCK ZENYATTA!!!

:yes::):yes::):yes::slight_smile:

While I think the sport needs a history maker, since RA fame was very 15 minutes and these Disney movies are about horses 40 years ago…anyway… My point is I’m a bigger Goldikova fan than I am Zenyatta. So I hope the Z girl wins… But I really really hope Goldikova does!

She looks like she is trying to tie up to me…
Yes, that is what I thought was going on as well.

Not sure what a reaction to Lasix would be? Todd made that comment after the race…

Sorry for those looking for the glitter— I was told in no uncertain terms-- NO GLITTER ON MY HORSE!!! and since I am not riding my own horse due to his tendon issue-- I have to respect her wishes :frowning: However-- today my little horse will be sporting purple pom poms in his mane-- and if there are any they will be alternating with white-- his mane will also be latticeworked to look like window panes.

As a side note-- LAT walked back to the barn very stiff, so I am thinking she did tie up-- as far as the Lasix reaction comment by Pletcher goes-- that is possible and could very well have brought on the tying up-- lasix dehydrates them something terrible, and will definately be a factor in her tying up episode-- I have had it happen to one of mine before–

Ladies, a suggestion for clothing. Put on your long johns UNDER your knee length skirt. If you boots are tall & your skirt is long you will not have a draft:D

My first thought was dang it’s taking 4 big unfit trainers in suits to restrain one little mad Cajun.

Happy everyone came out in decent shape other then bruises from fists.

Hope all have safe trip today. I’d love to see the Queen Z win, but I can’t wrap my head around that much perfection. In any case she is a great race mare that has been beautifully managed.

In a “Yeah, we saw that coming” moment, Workforce, the morning line favorite for the Turf, has scratched. His connections have been concerned about the quality of the turf course all week.

Also scratched this AM, Typhoon Slew is out of the Juvenile Turf.

I just HAVE to mention how glad I am that Glimmerglass decided to come back!

Glimmer, I’m sure I speak for more than just myself when I say that yours is a treasured voice on this forum.

Don’t ever go away again.
A big second to that!

Of all the horses to pick for a movie, Mine That Bird would never have occurred to me.

I saw Unrivaled Belle race last year and liked her to win but she didn’t. I also like Blind Luck, so that was a nice 1/2 placing for my taste.

My prediction for the BCC is Zenyatta followed by Lookin at Lucky.

When I saw Life At Ten attempting to warm up on the track, I said “that horse looks like it’s having contractions in the gut.” Poor thing… should have been pulled from that race.

A nice win for Pluck in the Juvenile turf, but a scary start as Rough Sailing slipped in the first turn and went down hard. He popped right back up and took off again but he is being vanned off now. Jockey Rosie Napravnik also popped up quickly and appears to be OK.

This is NOT how anyone wanted the day to start. I may have to put the airing on delay via the DVR and check in before watching the races. I’m not sure my heart can take it.

I know what you mean. I get so nervous watching the races! They just said that Rosie said she is fine and they just want to make sure Rough is okay.

Here’s hoping all of the horses finish this day in good health!

^&*(the Euros!

All week we have heard how hard the turf is, and how much water has been put on the turf. Well, it appears that Rough Sailing went down, [got up and ran] because he SLIPPED on the wet grass:mad: And Workforce scratched because it is too hard!?!?!?! For those not watching, Rough Sailing, they did catch him easily, there is some swelling in his front they say and he was taken away in an ambulence. He was ridden by Rosie Napravnik who bounced up immedietly. Jerry Bailey chatted with the winning jockey Garrett G who said the turf was soft and slick on the turns.

Congrats to Barry Irwin’s Team Valor syndicate taking a big win. Todd Pletcher and GoGo perhaps on a roll. Rosie is tough rider who has been in already a few spills and can roll with the punches. It just looked to be an unlucky set of circumstances.

Thus far the Euro invaders are finding zero success.

Back to Life At Ten it is all the more irksome that even ESPN contacted the officials before the Ladies’ Classic with their findings/feedback. Yet she went off.

Following the meeting this morning with the track stewards and jocks to review the film tomorrow [Sun] the punishment will be announced for Calvin and Javier Castellano.

What I heard about LAT last night

probably on ESPN but who can remember? John V knew she was NQR but maybe he didn’t feel he had the ‘right’ the scratch her. Larry Bramledge said John never said anything to him so I guess he didn’t feel he could say anything, but if he is the track vet, wouldn’t his call override all the others?
edited to add My opinion is that if Todd P KNEW she was NQR he should have NEVER sent her out or had explicit instructions to John v, if she ain’t right, bring her back.

What on earth would they punish Castillano for? It was Calvin who went ballistic. I only saw one guy having to be restrained to stop that fight, and it took a lot of restraint, too.

Sounds like a scary first race today. Hope it’s smooth sailing for all from here on out. I’m not able to watch live, so the updates are appreciated.

Go Zenyatta!!!

The TV keeps telling me that the track vets “Didn’t see anything amiss” but I call BS. They said during the broadcast last night that the stewards had asked the vets to check her out, JV was telling Bailey repeatedly that she wasn’t right, even Tesatore seemed to be aware of it, and every TV viewer who has ever seen a horse move, including in John Wayne movies, knew she didn’t look OK.

I think multiple people dropped the ball here. She never should have gone in the gate.

I’m sure the fight will result in a good sized fine for Calvin, but it was Javier’s cutting off of Martin on the track which started the chain reaction. The overhead replay did show Calvin helping Martin back in the saddle in the track.
