Buck Davidson arrested Marion county

Yeah this goes way too far for me. I’m generally in favor of SafeSport and ok with erring a little on the too strict side if it saves a kid from abuse, but considering all criminal offenses, at any level, from any point in time? Yikes. People make mistakes and learn from them, and there is a huge spectrum of crimes that don’t have any bearing on a person’s ability to safely participate in a sport around children.

I just want to say- Safe Sport is not just about children. It also covers adult “balance of power” issues, even between 2 consenting adults, and protects athletes from abuse, sexual, verbal, physical or emotional.

It depends on the offense. Some people shouldn’t be working with children.

I agree but now you are being specific, before it was blanket. Littering etc I dont think harbors much danger to anyone.

For reasons that have not been openly stated, Ali suddenly and voluntarily withdrew his claim of personal damages and dismissed his own case, after some preliminary document filing, before the case would have been put in open court.

He’s due to come to a clinic in December in Canada. Wonder if this would put a stop to that?
If he hasn’t been charged, I don’t see why not.

I looked it up after I mentioned he was suing, because I hadn’t heard any updates. It wasn’t sudden. They went back and forth for a few months while SafeSport also attempted to dismiss.

He stated in his dismissal that he had been cleared of all charges.

Interesting question. I suppose it could hinge on whether or not the case has been resolved by then and what the disposition is.
Of course depending on the conditions of his release he may not be allowed to leave the state, much less the country, but a decent lawyer could probably get that modified since it’s his job.

It is a misdemeanor, it seems very unlikely they put any of those types of restrictions on him.

Canada can/ and often will prohibit entry for a misdemeanor …for example an OUI which is a misdemeanor in most states.

Thats why i said “depending” and “may not”. i did not say it was an absolute, although many on this board seem to work in only absolutes.

Like it or not, in our own weird insular world of horse sport, Buck is a public figure. A celebrity, if you will.

So it’s inevitable that his personal life will be discussed, just like other big names in the sport. And with the lack of hard information, people are going to speculate. I think this thread had been pretty restrained compared to many others on the board.

I may have missed someone else’s post, but Marion County records now show the charge description as “battery domestic violence.” I am surprised that at this point, with Buck being arrested and charged and a pre-trial conference scheduled, no outlets have mentioned it.

It must have changed since this morning, because this morning it did not say that at all. Thank you for the update.
