California Chrome?

Looked good!

On a side note, did anyone laugh when they heard Tin Roof Rusted called?

I thought the name Tin Roof Rusty tripped off the tongue quite nicely.

So it was Rusty? As soon as I hit post I wasn’t sure. 🤣🤪

That’s what I heard. Can’t guarantee that I heard correctly though.

I googled .Tin Roof Rusty is a 2yr old. There is a horse named Tin Roof Rusted that is a 5 year old.

You were right. Just watched it again. I now down to your superior listening skills.

I realize I am now putting my head on a chopping block, so to speak, but here goes…

He did have a great presence and was a great racehorse  but when you look closely at his conformation it is not ideal for a sporthorse nor is his movement. Most breeders (racing or sport) find movement to be a very important factor when choosing a stallion and when you look at walking videos of C.C. you can see he appears to be lacking in that respect. I’m not going to pick him apart I’ll just say one issue I see in his walking videos is no overtrack. I have noticed a lack of athletic movement in many of his get as well (that I have admittedly only seen in videos.) His get so far, are all over the place in type, very much depending on the mare.

U.S. breeders weren’t willing to take a chance on him but his buyers are enthusiastic, have some different bloodlines they’d like to try with him and seemingly have many mare owners willing to take a chance on him.

His conformation is not ideal. My humble opinion only. He reminds me a little of Baloubet de Rouet the famous show jumper. Of course many a successful sire doesn’t have ideal conformation, but it helps to get mares as does good movement, especially if the horse doesn’t have a “stallion’s pedigree”.

You never know, as his career at stud continues, breeders will find out which mares work best with him and then perhaps we may see some very athletic looking world beaters from him, or, just some very good racehorses.

Very well said.
Some stallions definitely stamp their get & there’s no mistaking who their daddy is…
The thing I noticed most with CC progeny is they are all over the map so far.
Now maybe it’s because he’s gotten such a wide array of types being bred to him… maybe it’s just him.
I will say I’ve seen some super nice looking/moving foals & then I’ve also seen some that should probably be hid behind the barn in hopes they mature into better specimens.
Regardless, I am rooting for him & I hope they figure out which crosses work best for him.

Yes, not every stallion has gorgeous yearlings, some (many) need time, as any of us who have ever had yearlings know, it’s not the age of beauty for most horses.

In the end, prepotency is the most valuable trait in a sire and it is most uncommon, even amongst the best TB race horses. Many horses who have had success at stud have been a bit of a surprise while the failure of others was a surprise as well. Goes to show you never can tell, but pedigree is usually one of the better indicators of success.

My thought is that in Japan, CC may have the opportunity to cover a better quality or consistent quality and type of mare.

A good or great performing race horse can come from anywhere… we’ve certainly seen that over the years in big races like the KD. When it comes to breeding, many breeders take pedigree into consideration and if a stallion’s pedigree isn’t appealing, many breeders are just not interested. Doesn’t help then when looking at the offspring.

For me, I thought this was a great move for CC. Maybe he will end up being one of the top stallions in Japan. I’d also bet his repatriation back to North America was covered before his flight left the US.

Charles Chrome, who won his first race so impressively, came back to run 2nd, beaten a length and a half, to Beer Can Man in an allowance race at Indiana Grand.

I’m afraid to add a link but the chart can be seen on equibase. (race 2, Sept. 30th)

Charles Chrome just sold for $55,000.

Cilla is entered to race on the 10th in the Frizette (race 5 at Belmont Park)
I believe it’s a win & you’re in race for the BC

She’ll have some tough competition there. Vequist, who broke her maiden winning the Spinaway Stakes and the MDO filly Cantata, who broke her maiden in an impressive manner at Saratoga.
There are several stakes winners in that race, including the Into Mischief filly Dayoutoftheoffice.

It is a “win and you’re in” for the BC Juvenile fillies.

ETA It would be a miracle, but you never know.
