California Chrome?

She ran well but it wasn’t a close third. Still, it will be nice to see the replay to watch her stride. I didn’t see much of her since I was watching the front runners.
@LaurieB did you get a good look at her?

C.C.now has a grade 1 placed filly? What is the correct term for her now?

Cilla’s dam is by Into Mischief out of a Mutakddim mare. She was a 30K Keeneland sale buy in 2011 and a good runner in LA.

The filly that was scratched from the Frizette was owned by Paul Pompa Jr, who died suddenly on Saturday. :frowning: https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/prominent-owner-paul-pompa-jr-passes-away/

So, if I understand correctly C.C. now has a black type filly?

She was outclassed and a rather distant 3rd, but it was a Grade 1 race.

Not just a blacktype filly. California Chrome has a G1 filly, which is even better.

What a shame about Paul Pompa.

She really was outclassed in this race by the two that beat her, so earning black type seems weird for her performance today. How fun for her connections though!

The Belmont crew had dismissed her completely, as had the horseplayers. Some folks had a good day wagering!

I found an interesting Opinion piece from 2019 about the merits of the black type system as it stands today ; https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/tdn-op-ed-the-black-type-system-and-cataloguing-standards-are-ripe-for-overhaul/

Chrome Dixie just won the second race at Belmont.

Going back to C Lilly: in looking at the head-on, at right about 51 to 54 or so, you see her quickly glance behind her checking where everyone else was. I think at 2 she already may have a good handle on her job, she did well and bears watching.

She is out of a really nice race filly. Whatever people want to say about Taylor Made, he got Chrome some quality mares.

She was bred by Perry and Denise Martin.

It was probably a private sale to them because she went through the ring as an RNA for Taylor Made in 2014, then didn’t sell again in 2015.

Taylor Made was the consignor not the owner. She was consigned by Lane’s End in the 2015 sale. It looks as if her last owner was Rontos Racing Stable who bought her for 20K in 2011.

Nope. She was bred by Martins…

“…Sales history: $60,000 Ylg ’19 FTKJUL; $87,000 2yo ’20 OBSMAR; $35,000 2yo ’20 OBSJUL. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0. O-Gary Barber; B-Perry & Denise Martin (KY); T-Mark Casse.”

It was established earlier in this thread that the filly was bred by the Martins. @Pronzini and I were discussing who owned Wildcat Lily, the dam of the filly, not the filly herself. A 2yr old filly could not have been RNA in a FT sale in 2014 or 2015.

Yeah that was the point I was trying to make. The other point was that Taylor Made worked hard either directly or through their clients to make sure Chrome was well supported. It doesn’t look on paper that they took just any old mare. I assume that they also advised the Martins on acquiring mares for him because that is typical and Taylor Made would have a lot more contacts on that end than the Martins would. That doesn’t mean the Martins didn’t breed the filly per the Jockey Club but chances are good they had advisors finding them the right mares.

@RHdobes563 mentioned this in post #220. You seem to be having some disconnect with previous posts. Are you not reading the thread, or are you just having one of those days (that we all have from time to time?)

Well aren’t you something special…
I shared the replay, as it wasn’t shared in post #220
I was not aware that you were the only one allowed to post here 🤦🏻”â™€ï¸ðŸ™„

I watched the races at Belmont Park today, live streamed on you tube.

Has anyone heard a word about the Not This Time filly Niente, who was vanned off with a knee injury?
