California Chrome?

Why would you be surprised? C.C. is not turf bred.
I think there are a couple that have been mentioned in this thread that have been tried on turf, but turf racing/breeding is not big business in the U.S.

Many of our well bred turf horses go back to Europe where turf racing is the norm and their bloodlines are popular. We do have some excellent turf sires in the U.S. but European owners and breeders aren’t interested in California Chrome offspring, for good reason.

Perhaps CC’s get will come into their own as three year olds, you never know. I doubt that they will mostly be successful on the turf which for some odd reason you think they will be.

Why is it again that you think CC’s get will be successful on turf? I remember asking you this question before and you didn’t answer.

Actually he is. His sire ran predominantly on turf and California Chrome himself was successful on turf
Lucky Pulpit’s dam was American bred but spent her career in England. She being by Cozzene who himself was by Caro (ire)

California Chrome and the G3 winner Sir Anthony (mineshaft) share the same third dam. Sir Anthony is predominantly a dirt runner thus far but just made his turf debut and came home a winner; setting a new track record in the Allen Jerkins on 12/26/2020.

Chrome himself won the G1 Hollywood Derby (turf) and was actually training on turf to start at Ascot in the Prince of Wales.
I think he looked quite good on turf

I think there is glimmers of hope here with this family on turf.

Because a horse (Lucky Pulpit) races on turf does not make them turf bred. I would guess that if Lucky Pulpit’s breeders were trying to breed a turf horse that Pulpit would not have been chosen as the sire.

I have no idea if CC was being bred to turf mares when he was in the U.S. I rather doubt it, but you never know. Hopefully for his fans, his 3yr olds will do well.

I’m lost about what a son of Mineshaft out of CC’s third dam has to do with anything.

I don’t even know why I bother giving you the time of day. We should just bow to you, king highness, the only poster permitted to post here and the only one who considers them right. I believe I saw another poster give you an earful in another thread for similar reasons.

I wasn’t saying that California is turf BRED. I was insinuating that the Chromes may have some potential as turf horses given the history in the family who seem to have done well when given the chance on the grass --> that’s what the Mineshaft son has to do with my post. Don’t put words in my mouth.

The bolded first line quoted above was your response to my post, which began with the sentence “Why would you be surprised? C.C. is not Turf Bred”.

The natural interpretation of your next words “Actually he is” would be that you were referring to C.C. being turf bred. Your accusation that I “put words” in your mouth is incorrect.

This is a discussion board and people will not always agree. Why do you become upset on a personal level when someone disagrees with you? We’re discussing race horses.

“New Hill Farm home bred, Raving, by California Chrome out of graded stakes winning and producing Dade Babe, heads back to Trade Winds Farm to get geared up for her three year old campaign. She has shown talent in the mornings, excited to see what she can do! Her mama is in foal to Union Rags and she is booked to Candy Ride for 2021!“

“The Chrome Family has another winner today. Congrats to Fashionably Fast who won the Tiznow Stakes defending his title that he won last year. Fashionably Fast is a 6 year old racehorse sired by the late Lucky Pulpit.
I’m happy to know that Lucky Pulpit’s legacy lives on by racing earnings. Fashionably Fast is a gelding. The father of California Chrome who died 4 years ago is still earning wins on his progeny. Fashionably Fast has been trying his best and his efforts are paying off. It’s also nice to know that he is owned by John Harris, Per Antonsen and John Nicoletti from Harris Ranch, the place where California Chrome and Tiznow were born. Per Antonsen was Chrome’s first trainer. He is featured in a video tribute I posted last year called Hometown Hero. Cheers to Fashionably Fast on his win today and all the best to him and his connections on their journey.“

In all actuality, Laurie Brown was California Chrome’s first trainer at Harris Farms. She interacted with him on a daily basis. She was his alpha.

The “Chrome Family”? Was the writer of that piece a horse person or a fan? Didn’t Lucky Pulpit sire quite a few runners in California?

It would be interesting to see how C.C.'s get rank when the percentages of “in the money” (win, place, show) are separated between claimers, MSW, allowance, stakes, and graded stakes races, but then again, they were 2 last year.

They’re in their 3 year old year now. He didn’t have any really exceptional 2yr olds in the U.S. but many stallions don’t get early runners. Perhaps he’ll have some that come into their own at 3. It would be a treat for his fans.

Japan will be his real test. He’ll have had a better book of mares there (at least for his first crop, depending upon what his get looked like.)

Let me see if this link (to CC’s N.A…get’s upcoming races) works. https://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-register/stallions/169083/california-chrome.
Nope, it doesn’t take you directly there, but if you go to the page and select “upcoming entries” it will take you to the upcoming races of CC’s North American get.

He looked pretty good in that video @mommy_peanut. He had a lot of “encouragement” from his jockey, but he was brave to come from behind with the mud in his face.

thoughts on CC as a sire now that more are running and running consistently? They look good.

How many foals were there, how many starters, how many winners and, as mentioned earlier, what conditions did they race under?

Haven’t seen those figures so cant really comment on his overall crop as race horses.

I took a quick look at his statistics. He’s not setting the world on fire. Cilla is his only stakes placed offspring so far.

Chrome of Our Own’s win was in a 15K maiden claiming race. Most of C.C.'s get are breaking their maidens in the claiming races. They’re doing pretty well there.
