Canadian Olympic Team - who do you pick?
If I recall correctly, it was KR’s paper work error was it not? failing to submit whatever was needed to declare herself for WEG
(or I could be completely mistaken)
You are correct. I believe that Kathryn didn’t declare for the WEGs because she didn’t think she would have been qualified and then missed the date to declare (which also costs money - yes/no?). Low and behold she was qualified, put on the team and then the committee realized her paperwork wasn’t done.

Who owns her horse?

I’m wondering if someone who is helping pay the way for the Canadians is pushing for KR? We need someone to dig deep here…

I can’t imagine doing this to Selena so close to departure. She is our most solid pair. EC needs to be wiped out.

Meanwhile, they are constantly posting FB updates about so and sos outfit at YRs.
EC is the absolute worst organization on the planet at this point.

KR herself owns Let It Bee.

Traveling alternate? is there a fifth backup traveling to RIO? Waylon? I only see four names in the new announcement…and KR was the travel extra.
If Selena’s horse is fit for competition, what kind of hold does KR have on EC that they would blatantly thumb their noses at the court ruling by an underhanded last minute swap. Is it possible that they were stupid enough to promise her a slot if she didn’t kick up too much of a fuss after the paperwork snafu last time? That would be incredibly dumb on their part.

I hope we get the real story behind all this. It’s just all so very suspicious.

I feel awful for Selena and her team.
It’s weird but I wondered this myself as I thought about it (before this latest announcement). Why did Kathryn decide not to be involved in Jessica Phoenix’s appeal? And why did EC not send a lawyer then? It all smelled.

I feel awful for all the riders, this is absolutely NO way to build a good team, for these Games or the future.

And Bentleys Best is travelling, so what happens if one of the other horses is unable to compete? JP rides both? Lol

I noticed when I read the announcement about the switch that it did not say anything about any last minute horse illness or injury - that alone suggested an undercurrent of drama to me.

Where do you see he is travelling alternate?

He’s on the trailer heading to Rio isn’t he? He was at the training camp…or is there another grey?

Colleen rides a grey as well…

Ok that must be who I saw. No alternate then?

If there really was no valid / soundness reason to remove Selena (and I have no knowledge or inside info one way or the other), I would have thought they would have bumped Colleen off the Team rather than Selena.
Colleen has had an amazing year and earned her spot, but they are the least experienced at this level on the team I believe.

Not quite. From the EC news release:

The athlete and horse replacement was implemented in accordance with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Late Athlete Replacement policy based on veterinary medical grounds concerning O’Hanlon’s declared horse, Foxwood High, a 13-year-old Canadian Sport Horse gelding owned by John and Judy Rumble.

It almost looks like they were so determined to send KR that they looked at all the vet reports for the horses going and picked one they could make an argument for replacing based on a vetting. I would love to know if it’s something new or if it’s something they were willing to live with before they had to make up a reason to send KR.

If you look at these horses enough, you can find something on all of them. Particularly once they’ve got some mileage.
Many of them wouldn’t pass a PPE.

ETA-If they Selena to bump because AFAIK she doesn’t have the $ backing to sue the pants off of EC, then shame on them.

What is going on here? I wish Selena would issue some sort of statement if her horse is in fact sound and she’s being left behind for other reasons. I mean Rebecca has a stop at her last outing and is still on the team…

If we were to come u with a clear list of demands we could start an online petition and get some media attention

There’s a pic of him on the trailer on Phoenix Equestrian facebook. It looks like he is going to Rio. You’re right - if something happens to one of the other horses JP will have to clone herself.

Is the picture not of Jessie and Colleen (with A Little Romance and
Qorry Blue d’Argouge)??

Wow, I have no dog in this fight, barely follow eventing CA news, and this still stinks like big fat lies. Curious timing, too, don’t you think?! Not that horses don’t do things to themselves on the wrong day, but usually it’s accompanied by a “heartbroken” rider statement and explanation with a sad photo, not a vague “medical concerns” clause.

Wasn’t Kathryn Robinson the gal placed on the Pan Am team, too, with questionable qualifications (and a fall or something if I recall during the event)? Someone’s got her back, for sure.

I assumed it was because they knew Jessica had a strong case due to Clayton’s careless comments. But if Selena’s horse is sound then something is definitely fishy. Don’t they have one of the higher qualifying scores?

The whole scenario is just so darned sad.

This should be a highlight, a joyous time, a time to show your best and be on form without bad feelings. A time to take in all the Olympics has to offer, the chance to meet with the world on the big stage.

Whoever those involved are - since it is still basically a secret and I’ve asked pretty high up the ladder - have had bad performances where peoples’ whole
lives and dreams can come to nothing.

The expenses are a start.

Similar going on in the Dressage thread.
