Canadian Olympic Team - who do you pick?

Did anyone see this gem on the EC website? They claim they hadn’t finished with all the qualifying competitions on the 28th??
"Equine Canada Hi, Pamela,

Thank you for your interest in the Canadian Equestrian Team! We understand your frustration in not knowing who has made the Canadian team for Rio. We assure you it is not information we are withholding. While speculations have been made by media outlets as to the members of the CET, the team has not yet been finalized. In fact, there are still qualifying competitions to come, and an official selection process followed by EC and the Canadian Olympic Committee. Please rest assured that on July 14, the team list will be finalized and an announcement will be promoted far and wide on EC’s digital media platforms, including the website and social media channels.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at communications@equinecanada.ca.

Sounds as if they were planning to use Great Meadows for a final selection trial. That’s not such a bad idea.

They want to leave room for last minute people to qualify, but I’m sorry if by now you haven’t proved yourself, it is ridiculous to include these people on the team.

Actually I think it’s the opposite. Keep everyone on tenterhooks and in maximum drama until the last minute. Keep the selection criteria secret so that nobody knows whether they should do more or wrap in bubble wrap. See who screws up (only the selection committee knows what constitutes screwing up), and don’t put those who’ve screwed up on the team.

Next cycle, everyone is even more paranoid, because nobody knows what puts you on a team or keeps you off.

Also one of the qualified riders posted on facebook this morning that Equine Canada didn’t submit the entries for Great Meadows in time for those who wanted to go as individuals. Evidently it was Equine Canada who decided which entries were submitted and which weren’t. What a debacle.

why does it all have to be so shady though. Directly from EC website.

So, in other words, they WERE going to use Great Meadows but they didn’t get the paperwork in on time. Did I miss something (else) though? Why is Equine Canada submitting entries, or not as the case may be?

Good question, but no one really knows anything!! Does EC even exist!!?

Only the people who are already on the long list submitted to the FEI could go to the Olympics. As I understand the FEI rules for special events like Nation’s Cup (CICO), the entries are always submitted through the NFs. In fact, for foreign riders in foreign countries, doesn’t the NF have to sign off? There are some very complicated rules about this.

As of today, none of the Canadian riders have submitted all their signatures as far as I can see. Nor have the Brits.

Not sure how accurate this is, but Eventing Connect just posted this:

This is likely due to how the entries are submitted (by NFs, not by riders) and how the online entry system is set up.

Please educate me.

Who is the “high performance advisor” and is it true that they have no experience with horses?

The process and secrecy around the whole selection period was appalling.

After reading some (pretty terrible) accusations about certain people involved with the selection process and their wheeling/dealings regarding other equestrian matters, I’m embarrassed to be a member of EC.

Enough so that I did some paperwork and got my EU citizenship so I can compete under another flag instead (should I ever hit the FEI levels)… Let’s see how Rio 2016 plays out. :frowning:

Aussie (not sure if that’s the spelling of his name, as there is no information on this) is a Selector as well as Fleur and Clayton. Not entirely sure who else.

Aussie has absolutely no horse knowledge who is also the High Performance Advisor.

ETA: Jen Holling is also a selector

I was just going to post this. They did a pretty thorough job discussing the Canadian team and essentially covered everything that we have including the conflict of having Clayton as a selector and coach. Kyle said the entries for Green Meadows were pretty screwed up.
