Charlotte Jorst calls out Gary Rockwell
I heard second hand that CJ has apologized to Rockwell
If she has - then perhaps she has learned an important lesson if she wants to play at this level.

I would be quite shocked to see Gary use the score sheet for any other purpose other than to score what he saw in front of him at that moment.

I rode my very first 4th level test in front of him on my not European bred horse. I was completely terrified, as he was fresh off the London Olympics at that time. He was completely fair and tactful - complementing what was good and pointing out what still needed work.

I do feel though that some people are perhaps a bit miffed by her, but it has little to do with that fact that she bought nice horses.
Well, now that you mention it, I’m miffed at her for selling Vitalis back to Germany. It would have been nice if he could have stayed here for U.S. breeders.

Just MHO. Carry on.

Good lord. Next time, show jumpers. Or run barrels.

There were a couple of technical errors, like loss of rhythm at times…
And no piaffe.

I’m probably missing something obvious, but are you saying she should have, after a decade or two in the sport, switched to show jumping or barrels when she decided to get serious about competing at a top level? I’m not understanding that.

I think Coreene is saying that because those disciplines are judged very definitely in terms of placings and quality of performance (speed, clear round) versus the subjectivity of dressage judging.

Took me a few read-throughs to hit on that, myself.

I’m saying that if you can’t deal with competing in a subjective sport, then go play Beat the Clock.

particularly in the freestyle which is more unforgiving of slight errors.

her scores in the regular classes seemed balanced and consistent across the judges, across the days

That’s legit. He is a lovely, lovely horse. My barn owner purchased a breeding to him and I’m excited to see what comes of it.

Looks like the whole post went poof! Probably for the best. Wonder if she’ll come here and ask that this thread be deleted too…

Good for her. Someone must have talked some sense into her. Apologizing when you have made such a big blunder is not easy, but it was the right thing to do. It shows strength of character. I wish her well as she moves forward.

She may not get an Olympic ticket, but it looks like she is going to the World Cup.

I have scribed on more than one occasion for Mr. Rockwell. He was fair, honest, and my observation was that if he was waffling between a 6 or 7, he gave the 7. (He’s also sarcastic and hilarious).

Yes - he has a well-developed dry wit. It’s quite humorous.

yes and no doubt by realizing what a colossal mistake was made in terms of achieving personal goals and finding the best way to minimize the damage. The apology had to come.

Must be frustrating when you can’t buy success !

Not sure that is completely fair.

Sure it is 100 times easier with deep pockets but still there can be no success at all without hard work

Last one to purchase a berth on the Olympic team was Sven Rothernberger. Took a while, and included changing countries as well as a string of fabulous already trained horses, but eventually he succeeded.

World Cup as a back up award is not exactly sawdust.

Let’s hope she manages a little more graciousness as our ambassador in Sweden. Maybe Guenter can give her lessons in manners as well as riding:o

Because you can’t buy success. The financial freedom to ride full time, learn from the best trainers and buy the best horses certainly makes things A LOT easier but it’s no guarantee of success. You can put me on a Grand Prix schoolmaster but that doesn’t mean I’ll become a Grand Prix rider. To go out and score high 60s to low 70s at a CDI requires hard work and at least some degree of talent.

Well it also must be frustrating when you buy a horse that has scored nearly 76 percent at GP (and with a lot of tension), beating Steffan P and Legolas, and you get much lower scores with far less tension. She needs to watch her tests with someone who can explain to her why she is not getting in the 70s…
