Here are the replay and details of the Florida derby;
From what I could see, (I was in the kitchen making Bernaise sauce while watching on a laptop) he just looked young (physically) compared to the other colts in the race. Seems like a real trier though, but outclassed with this competition at this point in time.
I said something similar in the Chasing Time FB group (being a member requires a lot of patience and sitting on hands). That as of right now, he isn’t of the same caliber as the graded stakes 3 year olds. Even the filly, Secret Oath, looked more mature, which isn’t too surprising considering her sire.
The FB group just makes me go on a good day. It is impossible to tolerate after a loss.
I remember that Where_sMyWhite didn’t join the MRH facebook groups because she had little patience with the gripers that would not educate themselves, and she wanted to have fun and enjoy the horses with people that had reasonable expectations.
I have to chuckle at the “horseplayers” who are expecting great returns on their investment in MRH and Chasing Time specifically. Welcome to the wonderful world of horse racing. I’m looking at my small share as totally a fun way to participate, albeit from afar. I thought he showed a lot of try in the early part of the race and then ran out of gas. And he looks like he’s quite a small colt compared to a lot of the others. But I think he should be a lot of fun during the summer months if he stays sound. He looked good prancing around after the race.
The FB group idiots were a riot yesterday. The one guy who thought it was a conspiracy that Asmussen is spending more time with Howling Time than he is with Chasing Time when Howling Time isn’t even trained by Asmussen. Then is all suspicious because Asmussen was “messing with” Chase’s mouth in the paddock and THAT’S why he lost. Good GRACIOUS.
It was fun while it lasted (his being close up for the first part of the race). I hope he comes out of the race OK. Clearly, the company was too much, so I guess a reset will be undertaken.
I have the $12 or so that he has earned for me. I have a friend whose horse has thus far earned her about $0.50. We laugh together about our winnings, but at least our horses got to the races. We are both enjoying the MyRacehorse experience.
The people in the FB group are beyond help.
You can’t even try to begin to reason with them.
I’ve been saying while for awhile, but I think it would be a cool idea for MRH to put on an education series. Now I’m thinking you could even make it like an online short course. It wouldn’t help the willfully ignorant, but a lot of people’s only experience with horses and racing is MRH and it would be great if they could learn the basics. If nothing else, it would be more educated voices to shut down the lunacy.
Hey MRH, message me and I will make this happen…
I am so glad I am not on Facebook. I don’t need to be stressed by contact with the ignorant or the crazy or the unreasonable.
I only joined the FB group because I was hoping someone there might know Chasing Time’s barn name. They don’t. I’m about to put the feed on “snooze”.
One good thing about the FB groups:
I connected with my old neighbor from when I lived in TN! We both had shares in Got Stormy, and were commenting on the same post on about Kentucky Downs when we realized we knew each other.
I mean how amazing is it to have a horse on the derby trail in the first place? I’m glad we got a shot and still believe we have a very good horse going forward. All I want is safe trips and good decisions by his trainers/managers and MRH seems so far to be a good ambassador for the sport. If they give him a break or drop him back down to allowance races I’ll be just as happy as if they put him in the Pat Day Mile as long as he seems happy
I just had to shake my head at those comments.
Along with those that keep blaming the jockey for not getting/keeping the horse in the front
And all the jockey drama in general. They have been griping about jocks since his first race.
Latest update said he bled which is completely unsurprising given how he ran his lights out and stopped suddenly.
I’d wondered if he bled or flipped, given how quickly he backed up.
I was today years old when I learned that WinStar has a hyperbaric chamber. Presumably they pull shoes now so as to avoid a repeat of what happened at Kesmarc a decade or so ago.
Oh god I’d forgotten about that. It was horrible.
An update from CT fb page.
Sounds like Steve will let CT recover & then reassess where we go next.
Glad to hear Steve has a positive outlook on his racing career.
“Ok, I know MRH broke the news that we bled in the Ark. Derby yesterday which was something I was afraid of. I had someone tell me this morning he bled but that news should always come first from MRH. BUT HERE IS AN UPDATE: I was downstairs watching and wishing trainer Jenks Fires good luck in the 4th Race and bumped into Steve himself leaving the area. I said hi and he said hi. I said I know you’re a very busy man but if you have a second how did our boy Chasing Time come out of the race. He said not a problem. So we sat on a bench by the paddock and talked for about 10 minutes. Very gracious! He said we came out of the race very sound but that we bled a 3 on the 1-5 bleeding scale. Steve scopes every horse 1 hour after the horse has walked after they race. He is sending him to Win Star Farm for 7-10 day treatment then would come back to him for training. He said he is a very nice and sound little horse who dhould do very well with the cut back in distance. We discussed the 7-1 mile distance. He said he was one of the soundest horses in his barn and that he should have a really nice career ahead of him! He then thanked me for the fish fry and wanted all the partners to know he really appreciated as he has a really good barn crew and a lot of folks really don’t know about how hard they work or appreciative of a good crew. He said everyone really enjoyed it and again everyone was appreciative of our thoughtful gesture! We both laughed about the different horseman we knew and he told me his dad always told him after a day like yesterday “ That you just come back tomorrow and load them in & go”! I told him that Mr. John Ed Anthony gave my dad some advice when he got his first horse. I told Steve my dad was waiting for this big lengthy advice and all Mr. Anthony told my dad was “ If you can stomach going from the penthouse to the house in less than 2 minutes then this game is for you if not take up golf or crocheting”! Steve fell out laughing so hard and saying it is so true how this business will humble you! I wished him luck and he said he was sure he would see me and more of the partners at Chasing Times next race! From my days as an assistant trainer we always put horses on the antibiotic Gentamicin for 5 days as a precaution to keep an infection from setting in the lungs from the bleeding. So I would imagine that will be done as well. I can also tell you Chasing Time is in the hands of one of the best vets on the backstretch in Dr. Kate. She is excellent and will have our boy healthy quick as well. I hope this alleviates some anxieties out their that some partners may be experiencing!! Lots of love everyone and lots of love for Chasing Time!!! ”
