I know… I’m kind of bummed that these girls are still hanging in there and it looks like I can’t go to the benefit… even if they do end up going tonight I am prob going to be too exhausted to attend anyway. BUT Trakehners International is supposed to be doign an auction also (stallions, feed, other stuff)… Valentine’s date for 2010 is on the list… (or potential date at least).
I’ve been following this thread and watching your beautiful girls periodically. I thought for sure one of them would have gone last night! I really feel for you. To date most of my mares have not looked so suspicious untill right before they foal. Of course by saying that I have now shot myself in the foot. We are cameraless and I will be spending quite a bit of my time in the barn for our mares due April 12 (still pretty chilly here) and then June 12 (much warmer) and July 31 (I’ll be happy to sleep outside). Mare stare seems like a real asset, not to mention tons of fun to watch. Good luck. I hope you have 2 April fools babies around 8 and 9pm. Of course they will both jump up and nurse well and you can comfortably be in your bed by 11pm at the latest! Cheers!
Cheer up, tonight is bound to be the night! Not only is it April Fools, but also, I will be tied up and unable to watch tonight. This has to be the night for the double feature. I’ll tune in tomorrow for cute baby pics. Good luck!
Thanks guys… did y’alls cams go down?? I went to sleep, came back and wham no cams up… had been disconnected? but my computer was running REALLY slow. So I rebooted and they came back up for me and my computer is running a little better… The cams are back up for me though… I’m gonig to go out and feed all the ponies and be back in.
Storm has not gotten here - when it does, if it does, I will post and let you know before I do anything how’s that?
I think that with running the cams continuously it starts to gradually slow down the computer. I’ve lost the cams a couple of times and had to reboot my computer and then there was no problem at all.
Have you already decided on names for both foals? If not and they both go tonight you’ll have to think about having appropriate names for being born on April’s Fool or born at the same time if that happens. I know that’s hard with the constraints of starting the name with the same letter as the first name of the dam. But who knows, maybe your foal cam watchers/mare starers will be hit with some good ideas while they continue to watch the girls.
I won’t be able to watch the girls tonight, hopefully that helps
Maddie - Have you thought about installing a foal cam? It doesn’t sound that expensive and with multiple mares due this year the sleep deprivation that you can avoid would probably be well worth the expense. And I don’t think it is too hard to set one up a temporary one quickly and then come back to make it permanent later.
I’m planning on installing one as soon as my foaling stall is complete. Just need to get the doors hung and the stall footing taken care of and then we can begin invading my poor mares’ privacy every single day. I started a thread about foaling cams so I could get advice from experienced foal cam folks. Don’t know if you saw that thread but if not the link is http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=140395
OK, update on the mares at dinner time… WATCH CHLOE!!! She is VERY sweaty (it is close to 80 here, but she is the ONLY horse on the property that is sweaty…) and she is totally uninterested in grain. She was also yawning and snaking her neck a lot while I was down there.
Dove is about the same as she was earlier… She does have a very light sheen of sweat, but itsn’t sweating sweating like Chloe is. Also she is not hyper interested in her dinner either.
My prediction (what does that count for anything LOL) Chloe will go within the next couple of hours and Dove will go in the wee hours of the night.
Mom had picked out a name for Chloe (she wanted to stay within Italian names in honor of her father). Dove… we would like to incorporate my Grandmother’s name or nick name if at all possible. She died Christmas day 2007 and really loved horses. Her name is Dorthoy and her nickname was Dot/Dottie.
Yes, I thought I saw lather between her back legs but wasn’t sure. She does seem to have a nice sweaty sheen. Also, so very agitated. Going down for two minutes and getting back up is a good sign. Come on Chloe! We are rooting for you.
I know… I’m debating putting the frozen pizza in the oven LOL. I do think I have time for that though. might not get to eat it… lol
she is agitated, but not like she was a couple of days ago… this is more shifting and upset, not pissy and upset. She is def in labor - just how much longer? LOL. Interesting - no wax ever, solved THAT riddle!
I saw her kick and stretch her legs up toward her belly a few times too. Definitely looks uncomfortable.
one raised arm filly, two colt!!!
Well, now I’m going to have to keep the computer on so I can check between my chores and dinner!!
YEP!!! She is back to being mighty quiet - didn’t eat her dinner at all (one or two bites only)… she might just be waiting until it gets dark which is in about an hour.
We are going out to our Tooney Tuesday hamburgers and a glass of wine at the pub (horse talk) — so Chloe will definitely have it between 6:30 and 9:30 our time. I have spoken.
Perhaps I can speak to the management and have the marestare put up on the sports screen??? Think he will go for it?
I want to know if the milk tasting works. Grosses me out a little bit, but heck, whatever works. Let me know.
tasting the milk works everytime - to me it is as good as the strips (but I don’t use the strips) and the tasting is within 36 hours for me… The prob with any of that is, when we get close I don’t trust the taste or the strips! LOL
forgot to add… see if he will put it up… how cool would that be?? LOL If he does you have to let us know!
MIght gross some of the non horsey people out though over dinner LOL. (can you imagine when the placenta comes out and is swinging around??? LOL sorry got a visual)
She got right up into the camera to do her business. I could have done without that Chloe. Maybe that’s her opinion of us watching her.
Are you kidding me??? I have been keeping up with Chloe and I cannot believe she has not gone yet… I have 4 of my own, but find yours very interesting! The highlight of my day is checking on your mares! I can’t believe she is eating hay right now!
