Chloe FILLY 4/10 - on CAM 1 tonight, Dove Filly! 4/5 - Dove/Ruby CAM 2 tonight (4/11

Dove darling, you are so boring to watch. Now, Chloe, at least she gives is something to guess at. Besides, at l:30 pm I think I have to go to bed - I’ll pop down sometime during the night to check on you girls - Good night Chloe, Good night Dove, Good night Anissa.

good night foxtrot

Sorry to bail on you Anissa. But Tess went into labor about 12:30. It was a fast, hard labor and foal was born approx 1 am. Freakishly large filly, very strong. I had a 93.5% chance of a bay or brown… but got a sorrel with a blaze and one short sock behind. She stood up in about 15 min, and at two hours was bucking and loping in the stall. I swear she looks 2-3 days old-- flesh over her ribs, on her hip. She’s strong and sassy but was uncomfortable… passed about 3x the normal quantity of meconium, but was rolling, hunchbacked, just plain not happy. The mare passed her placenta in 40 min, and we gave her banamine but she was still uncomfortable and needed rompum as well. Between the two of them being uncomfortable, I called the vet out at 3 am. Mare now seems fine, and as best we can tell the filly was imply born impacted, and now that she’s passed all that poop, seems fine. She lays down for only 10 min at a time, then is up and playing and nursing again. And, I am going to crash. I can sleep 2.5 hours before feeding time… and maybe get a nap after morning chorse is everyone looks good.

Good luck with your girls, I will check for news in the morning.

Congrats!!! Need photos… and sorry that your baby/mommy had issues at first, glad that they got through it all ok though.

I’m going to a hunter pace today, but I"ll check in later
Hang in there

Alright Dove, what are you doing? You’re not supposed to clamping your tail down tight but rather lifting it up. Let’s see you get into it a bit.

I bet you’re right. Dove will be the most uneventful delivery…quietly lay down, have it, stand back up and then resume her classic statue position.

I see that Dove delivered… A WHOLE BUNCH of POOP.

just woke up from a nap… am going to go out and feed and check milk etc after I get some coffee in me. Will also try and fix Chloe’s cam which I see has gotten sig worse in the past couple of hours… sigh. Will be 100% chance of rain today so they are all staying in. (rain/thunderstorms)

Two things though: 1) Dove isn’t really “clamping” her tail down… her butt cheeks are just so big and fat that her tail hangs between ther butt cheeks (and she is so sunk in/back) LOL and 2) I find it INTERESTING that Dove has pooped (and pooped so much) where she has… she is the type of horse that ALWAYS poops/pees in the same place (she will mound it up to the ceiling if you left it long enough) so why is she pooping over there which is NOT her normal place???

Maybe baby is almost in position and so she’s just getting all that out~! Don’t they usually clear out their bowels pretty good before the big labor hits? crosses fingers Good luck Anissa!!

(and glad to hear you got some rest!!)

That is what I’m thinking… esp since it isn’t in her normal place.

Poor baby (I say this but the mare is 15 or 16 this year LOL) she is so perplexed. She may be one to go during the day (OH GREAT - she better go this weekend if that is the case).

Well, it should be a nice quiet, rainy day here - perfect foaling weather.

Sigh.

Hope you got nice naps, Anissa.

I’m out to burn things. Hear that, mares? I’ll be outside and away from the computer for several hours tending my bonfire. But then, mares NEVER foal in the daytime. Keep that in mind.

Anyone know how (or if you can) to split the desktop across two screens? I am thinking I’ve seen it done before and I can’t figure out how… Want to have research paper up on one, and babies (mamas) on another… Any ideas?

NEVERMIND, Figured it out.

OK, guys… here is your update for the am.

Per the strips (physically everything is the same). Chloe is about the same as last night, ca may be up slightly, but ph is the same (around a 7.2).

Dove though is off the charts… ca is very close to the 1000 color (so it is 500 or above I would assume) and the ph is VERY low - the lowest color on my strips is 6.8 and she is a lighter “yellow/orange” than that so I’m guessing 6.2??? So that means that she MAY go during the day right??? Like I said, good day for foaling… thunderstorms/low/rain/quiet day (even the road is less travelled today…).

Good news for Dove!! Get some popcorn!

BIG storms going on right now… if anyone is interested, the zip code for me is 32420 you can see it on radar on weatherchannel.com.

Dove looks a little potato-ish today. Not much definition from belly to hindquarters. The foal has got to be in position. I vote for a daytime foaling since she is maiden. The only mares I’ve ever had foal in the daytime are maidens. I think they just fight it so long until they are literally knocked off their feet.

I’ll be thinking positive thoughts and hoping for a nice daytime foaling TODAY.

Well that, and if I read pintopiaffe’s thing right… we should be sOON, not late this afternoon that she goes… I’m hoping for a noonish foaling…

Maybe you can name it “Happy Hour”… and it will have MANY meanings

It seems like all of my mares have spent at least the last 24-48 hours before foaling pushing their hineys up against anything they could find…stall walls, posts, smooshing their buckets beyond recognition, etc. But I haven’t noticed your mares doing this. Have I just missed it or is it not as common as I was thinking?

I lost the cam connection to Dove!
