Colt rescued from year-long sling horror (warning: abuse, deceased horse)

The COTH Curiousity snagged me & I Googled MT
I was tempted to look for the FB page, but decided against it. Wisely.
Many years ago a young nitwit at the barn I boarded used a Dremel on her horse.
With similar results.
TG the Trainer stopped her at the first sign of blood :flushed:
WTF is wrong with people?
Nevermind, there’s no logical answer.

I might need an Asombro t-shirt to cheer me up

Used a Dremel? To do what? I’m confused.

Trim their hoof down to nothing I assume since that is what the other person being discussed did.

Uh. I heard of using tools to trim and I’m sure this can be done good. But “down to nothing” sounds like bad use of the tool

The woman was/is seriously mentally ill.

Read this and you won’t be smiling.

Google her name and you might see some info that isn’t shared in the COTH thread. I know the Facebook group is long gone.

Trim hooves.
Quicker than a rasp.
Safe when used by a competent person.

Gosh… I’ve read this article… And I honestly thought “down to nothing” was an exaggeration. It’s not… Horrific.

K-tape to the rescue! I never would have thought of that.

What a bright look on his face. That is so good to see.

He looked great! A much happier and brighter little horse

RRR shared photos from Hunter, of Asombro as a foal.
Super cute.

Look at that beautiful, innocent foal, the potential…
It’s heartbreaking to see where he landed.
I can’t imagine how his breeder feels.

Do you think the abuser was trying to stunt his growth on purpose? Thinking of Tea Cup pigs.

Glad to see he is doing so much better!

Hmm. Those kind of people just buy minis with dwarf characteristics.

Agreed. The rescue involved in this whole situation has been really thoughtful with respect to the breeder, and involved him in the recovery process. And the breeder has definitely been engaged and caring. And the colt seems to remember and respond to the breeder when he has visited. It’s a really positive aspect of the story in my opinion.

Agreed.
Many years ago, I was adjacent to a case where the breeders of a number of horses that were seized by a rescue were treated like scum when they reached out to offer to take the animals home.
Instead the horses were “adopted” out without their registration papers.

I think some people get very dogmatic about breeding and rescues.

There are certainly breeders who are unethical, which is unfortunate. There are also rescues who engage in unethical practices when it comes to raising money, etc. And that’s also unfortunate.

So far, it seems like when it comes to this tragic case involving Asombro, good horsemanship is leading the way during his rehabilitation, and everyone now involved is putting his welfare first. And that’s nice to see.

My brain still can’t accept Asombro as a 3yo :sleepy:
Abuse sure took away some valuable growth time from this baby.
I’m reminded of the Freeing Argus blog & hope Asombro’s future turns out as well.
