Colt rescued from year-long sling horror (warning: abuse, deceased horse)

Four hours is not a short trip. Having spent many times riding in the trailer with a sick horse or foal, it is non stop, weight shifting, balancing, and it is loud and it is stressful. I would not do that to this horse who is in such a weakened state. I am sure the rescue has the best interest for him, but I do not think it is a wise decision. The poor horse can barely manage to stand and walk in a stall.

Totally agree!

Is there a reason he can’t stay where he is longer?

And any time spent on Mississippi highways is hideous. I really wish they’d wait and let him gain some strength.

Maybe contact the rescue with your offer of help, since you seem to think they don’t know what they’re doing :woman_shrugging:

Having been following them for some time now, this isn’t the first rescue they’ve gotten that needed transportation under less then ideal conditions.
I’m sure they & their vet have a good handle on what is best for him.

For those complaining about Asombro being moved so soon….
I never had a doubt that RRR would do what’s in his best interest.

Complaining isn’t the same thing as being concerned? Glad to read they thought better of it.

I was so pleased to see his breeder was able to connect with them and come see the poor horse.

There is talk that the breeder will be adopting him; RRR is very supportive of this. They put up a video of him meeting Asombro today - break your heart.

Can’t imagine what Asombro went through being slung up for about a year, going through the seasons with flies he can’t fight off, the heat, and bad weather.

I have been trying to simply fathom WHY someone would do that???

It makes no sense at all.

Yes I saw on FB the video. I hope it brought some comfort to the poor horse

This kills me. Just in general, but also because I have a PRE that’s the same age. I have a soft spot for horses, obviously, but even moreso for Spanish horses. This is so sad.

I’m glad that his breeder will get to be in his life again and was reunited with him, but it’s so unfortunate that it was under such circumstances.

So awful - this is beyond “typical” neglect. How do you sling a horse up like that and not provide feed? Not that I understand people who don’t feed horses, but to not feed AND still try to keep the horse on it’s feet just boggles the mind.

And that it was the second horse (at least) that they had done this to? Horrifying.

I hope that Asombro heals well, and am so glad he was reunited with his breeder. I hope that the perpetrator(s) are charged to the fullest extent of the law.

The reunion with the breeder who spoke Spanish to him and the horse’s response…

That poor little horse was probably thrilled to see a familiar face after his ordeal. Maybe the breeder will adopt him when he’s healed up.

I was just looking at Rocking R’s facebook page and they are now selling Asombro T-shirts if anyone is interested.

In case anyone wants to know Asombro means astonishment in Spanish.

And yet someone was clearing trimming his feet. Mind boggles

I am not the only one expressing concern over moving him so soon, multiple people did, so I am not sure why you are coming just at me. We all are just so sad for this horse and want him to have the best chance.

I didn’t notice that…what the heck…I’m just baffled.

So glad they realized it is not best to move him currently.
