Colt rescued from year-long sling horror (warning: abuse, deceased horse)

Yes, the amount of laxity in those pasterns does not seem to be improving much. Poor guy.

I am sure it is one of those catch 22 things. His feet need to be worked on to help him stand right, but he can’t stand well enough to have his feet worked on.

Still jingling that the proper nutrition and exercise will help this poor boy be comfortable and happy.

That, and his knees. Wowza.

I’m sure moving around will help him a bunch, but I can’t help but wonder if splints or something to hold the legs in a straight and supported position would be helpful? Him walking around being mega back at the knee due to laxity - will that make it worse? I doubt anyone has experience with a case like this, so unusual to have this level of cruelty.

I’m so glad he’s out of the house of horrors he’s been put through.

What’s the story on prosecution? How do people become monsters like this? What is the story on the monster?

I wouldn’t even guess yearling from that video

@BrownDerby :face_with_hand_over_mouth: I see what you did there!

RRR just posted a short video update of Asombro checking out the cows.
He looks to be getting a little stronger & moving better.

I wonder if Asombro’s legs could benefit from the same treatments that the adorable premature colt in the Foal watch thread is getting for his legs?

I checked out their Facebook and he does seem to be improving.

They also described in detail the next steps for him, and it sounds like a very solid plan. He is going to get Rejuvenaide, which they hope will help support issues with his joints, tendons and legs. They are carefully referring him, and making sure he has help getting up and down. They are not moving him yet, and it sounds like he will get farrier care in the near future.

The original breeder continues to come visit and check on him, and it sounds like they have thoroughly vetted the breeder and are very likely to end up allowing him to adopt the colt, after more rehab is done. It sounds as though the crazy abusive people who starved him and put him in a sling are the ones truly at fault for what happened here.

It is encouraging to see the poor boy doing better. It will e interesting to see how he looks in another two weeks, after more nutritional support and some farrier work.

I wonder if their vet may recommend Wistrol, an anabolic steroid used to help run down youngsters start growing again, although it may make some a bit too active and he may not be there yet, needs a bit more recovery first?

Cute video update on RRR fb page.
Asombro was feeling good enough to paw at his “door dash” delivery

Another update.
Hunter has been out to visit Asombro a few more times as well.

There’s a Facebook reel of him backing up to Hunter for butt scritches, he’s scrawny and awful looking, turning with caution, but looks interested and alert, so I’m jingling, AND fingers crossed he keeps improving!

He is looking much better.

I would love to see how he walked after he had his feet trimmed some.
Poor guy.

I believe so. It was such a bizarre (and horrific) situation.

OMG that is her

I still have bad dreams about her, the mistake I made of reading that thread before all the photos were taken down. The stuff of nightmares. The audacity to say “her life was derailed by a conspiracy.”

This little horse isn’t far from me if he’s at Coosa Valley. While the traveling isn’t ideal, that’s one of the very best places in this state, and has all the gadgets and full surgery suite and great vets and farrier.
