Who has him? (Lava Man)
What a nice story, nice to see this one gainfully employed.

The mention of Native Diver brought back memories. Somewhat of a contrast to LM, that one was…well…rank. Doubt anybody was lined up to offer to retrain him.

Wonder happened to him, spectacular looking, black son of Imbros, gelded very early due to…ah…attitude-didn’t help much. But he was big, black and fast so quite popular with the railbirds, exciting to see him pull out by 15+ lengths and try to hang on to the wire. He did not care to be rated.

Kind of a character some people identified with and got a lot of press. In that department and the record, not unlike LM.

Native Diver died in 1967 of enterotoxemia, eight days after his last race (winning the Del Mar Handicap). He was buried at Hollywood Park, I think they moved his remains to Del Mar in 2014.

Here is some info of interest that includes post times, weather, etc. Looks like it’s going to be a great day for the attendees. Well, great if they can get a place to sleep.

I love Lava Man!
I’m getting anxious just reading this thread, and envy all of you going. I’ll be watching from my couch too.
Hoping for good races and safe finishes for all.

Thanks BBM. Never struck me as the type that would thrive in retirement so it was probably for the best and he was suitably remembered and honored.

Beholder scratched. Glad they did the right thing, I would definitely think twice, maybe three times before shipping this mare in the future.

Love this article on Sprint hopeful Runhappy. Cool horse, cool trainer. Just what the sport needs. There’s a link in there to another good one on F&M Sprint entry Fioretti and her team that’s worth reading.

I love that horse  I was lucky enough to be at the finish line at the King’s Bishop. Fingers crossed for Runhappy!

Runhappy is a freak of nature. That horse is sooooo fast
I am glad he is able to overcome his trainer. Just goes to show a good horse will be a good horse, no matter what. I hope he wins.

For the Lava Man fans, new pics from Keeneland. https://www.facebook.com/IAmLavaMan/

Best quote ever: “I felt like I was two years old out on the track at Keeneland!”

Of course you liked that article.

Good luck to all. Safe trip.

Question:
Does anyone know if American Pharoah will return to CA for letting-down, or stay in KY?
Seems it would be sensible just to stay in KY after the BC.

I think he goes directly to the farm. Victor Espinoza’s Facebook page had pictures of them (he and Baffert and probably the Zayats also visiting the farm. His stall is all made up and ready for him.

Anyone have schedule with post times and channels? TIA!!

Here’s a picture of the chalets, and a flyover to show how they are situated at the track
Are the chalets permanent fixtures?

Anyone know the distance of the so-called “Marathon?”
Pretty sure it’s no where near the the 2 miles of the old JCGC.
<smh> & weep.
