moon ballard lori at snkstarcres can help she email me back
can take her and her neds and dogs â but needs transportation
I know this is off-topic, but do you have any idea why ânedsâ is slang for âhorsesâ?
I got a book about the English language for Christmas, so this sort of thing has been on my mind lately. Since Chanter seems to have found a rescuer (YAY!!!), I thought Iâd interrupt to ask about ânedsâ.
Have you ever tried wading through all the red tape and interviews, etc.,etc??? That kind of help isnât all it looks cracked up to be. You have to be lucky enough to find people who really do âget itâ. Training courses, lectures, etc., etc. may give the person some of an overview of what kinds of things to expect but unless you have lived long-term with someone with brain injury or you experience it yourself, it is impossible to understand all the aspects of a normal daily life that a brain injury can impact. There are lots of things that trigger me that arenât even listed in any of the research that I have been able to wade through. All that reading is difficult and exhausting when you have to make a conscious effort to concentrate fully. Iâve tried going back and reading some of my dressage theory books (since I now have all this âextra time on my handsâ) and give up when I have to re-read the same paragraph 5 times because I canât remember what the beginning of the paragraph says.
Itâs also a nightmare when they want you to come into their office for an appointment every week and youâre already trying to juggle medical and other types of therapy appointments and can only tolerate being in a car for so long at a time and for so many hours a week. Itâs totally frustrating to try to juggle all of that around all of the symptoms and other things that are going on in the meantime. Iâd also suspect that she has frequent insomnia issues⊠that is a fairly common factor among brain injury patients and it doesnât always respond to medical treatment.
Rebecca right on!

âBest intentions notwithstanding, I think the BB community is being drawn into a very difficult situation. So maybe someone could give her those numbers and leave it at that. She seems quite capable of making phone calls. The rest of it is best left to professionals. In the end, they will do the most effective job.â Rebecca Yount
This is still the best advice for this thread.
And obviously spoken by someone who does not have a lot of first hand experience dealing with government agencies during the holiday season (not to mention the rest of the year). It is unrealistic to think that any of them will do anything quickly. And as for effectively â that depends a lot on the particular agency, and it almost certainly would not include keeping Chanterâs animal family together. But I guess many of you have already decided that she shouldnât own animals anyway.
Surely there must be some farm in the Ocala area that needs live-in barn help.
My feelings too.

I am having flashbacks toâŠCP.
In all sincerity, I hope Chanter gets whatever help is most appropriate.
My feelings too, Chanter you need to choose better who you work for. Last year at this time, like I said before, you were complaining about the same exact things minus the abusive barn owner.
Then the barn owner who didnât like women, then the barn owner who fired you because you complained about someone else in the barn.
You really need to get your family to help you out, or any of the agencies that people have suggested instead of relying on the kindness of the COTH people.
I am sorry but CP really has made some of us very skeptical.
Forgive my ignorance, what is CP?
A previous poster from a while back named Celloâs Pride. She was a poster with disabilities. If you do a search on the name some threads may still be in the archives.

I hope everything works out for the OP.
I will admit to being fascinated at the idea of a Shih Tzu service dog. My mom had one that while adorable, was dumb as a box of rocks. I would assume that it isnât for the blind, since the OP can see, and not one for someone with mobility problems, since the OP can groom, clean stalls etc. Not a hearing dog, as the OP mentioned hearing the FM say things. So if the OP feels comfortable in saying WHAT the dog does, I would love to know. Purely out of curiosity.
Locally, a woman has a Havanese (similar in size to a Shih Tzu) that is an âanti-anxietyâ service dog. Truly. The woman gets extremely stressed out in public. (Iâm not sure if she has that phobia that makes it difficult or impossible for people to leave their homes.) Iâm not sure if the dog was trained by a professional organization or if, by some way, she trained her own dog (which WAS my impression), but the dog is REALLY certified.
Also, many years ago, I met a gorgeous young man in his wheelchair. He was admiring my Doberman Pinscher and wanted one SO BAD for HIS service dog. (Dobermans are used but not as often as Goldens, Labs, and GSDs.) He was considering getting a Doberman puppy and training it himself. (I kind of wished I had followed up with that young man, but he was about 10 years younger than I, but he was SO good-looking, and he liked my Danteâ. And I think there might just have been a spark of mutual attraction there. * sigh * )
Itâs possible that despite the size differences of these two dogs that something like I mentioned might be the âserviceâ they provide to Chanter.
My memory must be going. I was around for Celloâs Pride but I had forgotten. Isnât that the thread that morphed into gnomes lounging in the early morning hours at Devon? I believe it was
WHAT THE H*LL ELSE DO YOU WANT ME TO DO???
My GOD, I just posted some contacts because that was the best I could do to help. Why the criticism? What would you have me do? Skip my brotherâs wedding, drive from Texas to Florida, pick her up in my non-existent trailer, and bring her back to my non-existent farm and give her my non-existent money?
A LOT of people seem to be jumping on the attack saying âgiving contact info is not good enough, you people are rude and inconsiderate to think she should have to dig through all that red tape, etc etc etc,â but please, do tell us what you expect us to do? For most of us, researching contacts is ALL we can do. If I give up my valuable time when I have much other stuff to do, so I can look up some numbers I think might be helpful, why lecture me on how Iâm not being helpful at all?
The honest truth is that the long-term help she needs is NOT available on the COTH forum. (As evidenced by the fact that the only pshycologist to post here was given the same comments as me- her advice was clearly not welcome by those of you who âcareâ about Chanter most!) Maybe we can find somebody to keep her and her horses for a while. Maybe we can find her a place to sleep. But for those of us who CANNOT assist in those immediate things, I should think that advice for the long-term and caring for her mental health as well as her physical should be welcome.
My LORD, people, WHAT ELSE DO YOU EXPECT US TO DO???
You are a vet? Vets use correct grammer, punctuation, and spelling. A vet would not assume a horse is skinny because it is old or needs their teeth floated.
Iâve been away today, just now catching up on posts, and maybe this was already covered, but she said she worked for a vet.
No, not all vets use âcorrect grammer, punctuation, and spellingâ at all times. I am a lawyer, and if I am tired or bitchy or whatever, sometimes I use run on sentences, bad grammer, maybe a mispelling or two. And yep, I actually KNOW BETTER! But nope, I donât proof a damn thing on the internet - so you get me as I am, maybe tired, maybe brillant. Because I donât care enough to do so. You may feel free to judge my abilities as a lawyer based on how I âspeakâ on the net, but that doesnât make me less of one. Well, maybe in some circles:)
All maxtrot asked for was the farm name, and in private. Unless I am missing something really big, isnât the person who ultimately helps Chanter going to go to that very farm to get the animals? How is Chanter going to get help if she wonât tell where she is at? I am not talking about in public, I am wondering about the nondisclosure in private to someone directly in the area, who by virtue of being âdown the roadâ was in an excellent position to possibly help.
JMHO - that makes no sense, in that context.
ALL, expecially Chanter
ALL, expecially Chanter
Nootka and I were already planning on hooking up next week to meet each other. So, because we are in the area, we would feel very happy to take Chanter out for lunch as friends because, we are honestly concerned for her, and her animals and her situation. The only catch here is that I have to leave until Tuesday to visit a sick realitive. I will be back this coming Tuesday Jan 2nd, 2007.
I know that there has been a ton of speculation around this, so if some real people can go and see whats actually happening with Chanter, we will be able to relay if sending money/help/rescue stuff is needed. Or just getting her some connections.
Chanter, we canât do this unless you actually concent. Here, on the thread. You already have Nootkaâs number, and I can PM you mine as well. We can see what we can do to help you, as your COTH family. Please take us up on the offer.
ok girls?
Yep⊠very willing. I have company down from NY til the 4th but am willing to go with youngfilly ASAP when she gets back. My friend can visit my mother for a few hours. I can get with Youngfilly and Chanter.
Great post. Itâs the internet, guys. And not everyone is an English major/writer. Kudos to those that can write fabulously. Some of us are more apt in other areas. It takes all of us to make the world go 'round.
I also got maxxtrotâs posts. She just tried to help until attacked.
And ditto on what rebecca yount said - good advice.
i had forgotten that one in aproffesional service including vets and vet techs comes under data protection act so cannot tell people or persons information of another â
and her being know would be easier to check up all is well with out harming her as the farmer knows her more likely â
altho she cant state on here â believers or not what she can do
is say shes well â or not well --she doesnt even have to talk to her she can check all the animals a nd be observant --as t wether its true or false â
in my mind its true â nbut i can understand those who dont think it is if thats makes sense â if the doc the p one that posted send her to authorities or list no â then i dont understand how you didnt yourself as you must know type of organiaztions in state to state simluar and her pc is naff so you could have google or fouund out and psoted that info for her
but getting back to vet tech perosn - if you did that then you would you put yourself in harms way i dont knnow â
just answering thoughts from post above

I think the reason she didnât post the list of authorities was because several had already been posted. I googled and made a list several pages ago, which I believe was criticized as unhelpful⊠so I donât blame her for not posting them again.
On that note, I have a cousin who works for the Texas MHMR and her job is basically to visit with those of varying degrees of mental illness and check up on them, get them hooked up with resources they need, etc. I would assume Florida has a MHMR, but from Googling I gather it must have a different name. Does anyone know if this is one of the agencies that has already been posted/contacted? Or know the correct name? While the agency itself may be difficult to work through, the people that makes the visits are in it for all the right reasons and WILL go out of their way to be of help. They are also educated in the illnesses and would know many of the intricacies that we may not.
I understand also that Chanter may not be in the mental state right now to make arrangements for giving up the horses- is there anyone in Florida who does rescues who can call her and work through the arrangements with her? That would help her with the stress of the decision and get the horses out of the situation. They donât need to be there any more than she does.
Does anyone remember the âThisismyAlterâ saga?
Things that make you goâŠâHmmmmmâŠâ
