Do you carhartt?
Heck yes.

Lets see, I have two pairs of insulated coveralls (with detachable arms courtesy of my mother in law and her fancypants sewing machine) two pairs of the insulated bib overalls, and numerous jackets.

I get dirty and cold at work so I like to have a spare pair in the truck, a pair in the wash, and a pair on me.

Of course, horse people don’t usually like their vet showing up in carhartts so I tend to only wear them on cattle calls but I’m 75% cattle practice so it works out.
Just so you know if you were my vet you would be VERY welcome in your Carharts!!!

I honestly can’t tell you what our vets wear.

I never even thought to look at our vet’s clothes.

I am like you. If I need the vet out to my place, I could care less what he is wearing as long as he is there. He could wear a lime green tutu and fairy wings and I’d just point him at the horse.

I have a pair that I use for about 2 weeks each winter (I’m in SC… don’t laugh!! ) but they drive me crazy and I usually end up taking them off when I’m halfway done with the stalls. The crotch area droops and I’m constantly having to pull it up… I feel like a rapper! I guess I’m just not built right to be able to Carhartt. They are a size 14. You want them?

LOL.

It’s not that our clients are mean or stuck up, I think it has more to do with the tradition in our practice area-most of the equine vets wear nicer polos and khakis and then use dickies coveralls to cover them up for messy stuff.

no way - we tough duck

We wear tough ducks - love them.

My vet actually called my barn manager and said it was about time for the annual “dead of winter as cold as it can get” emergency trip out to the barn. Which means I think I’ve never seen the vet in real clothing other then carhartts.
Thinking about a pair of carhartts for the barn, do you wear them? Why or why not?
Helllll yeah.:yes::yes: Saved my a$# in Wyoming!:yes:

Getchya some.

You know what else made me a fan of Carhartt? My blue eyed, 6’ something tall male boss, riding ahead of me in wranglers and a well fitted carhartt jacket. Nothing like a broken in Carhartt jacket to show off a man’s tapered waist and broad shoulders. LOL Mmm, hmm. :stuck_out_tongue:

Grataan, move to CT. I don’t think I’ve seen a vet at a barn not wearing Carhartts!
Heck, during the winter (especially during a significant snowfall) the local Sunoco/QuikMart parking lot is packed with trucks & plows filling up on coffee and fuel and everyone walking around gossiping outside makes it looks like a Michelin Man convention…oddly yellowish brown Michelin Men. (well, quite a few are women, but you can’t tell gender in winter with the coveralls/overalls and heavy jackets on, LOL)
More than half of the Michelin People are wearing Muck boots too.
I think it’s the local uniform for the actual locals. You can tell the newer subdivision dwellers when they slide into the parking lot and run while hunched over into the store hoping to not get cold…wearing their trendy looking but useless winter jackets.

i do not carhartt, I northface.
i prefer to do lots of layers of silky insulating things and then normal pants and a northface fleece, then down puffy vest, then my big puffy over that. with northface gloves.
so warm. And there’s now restriction in movement for working and riding.

Bought my first pair today. I think I am now officially an Iowan.

I north face and carhartt. My two favorite “go-to” winter brands.

Oh, and UnderArmour. I UnderArmour, North Face, and Carhartt it up in the winter!!
I don’t have the coveralls but they make some awesome socks.
AGREED!! I don’t have anything else but their thick socks are AWESOME! I’ve got three pairs (although currently 2 because I let a friend borrow a pair while on a trip up north… she’s still has them lol).

Hells yes!

I have a Walmart insulated coverall that I’ve come to love. I think it’s a Walls (?) and it says it’s blizzard proof. I rarely wear it when I work (too bulky except on really cold or snowy days when I’m desperate), but it’s a lifesaver when I teach. It’s big enough to fit a winter jacket underneath and yes I did that today. I was pretty warm even when I wasn’t moving. The pockets are really big so I can stuff my deerskin gloves in them.

I was not a convert until my boss bought me one and we had a week of highs only in the teens. I nearly cried when my first one wore out.

I have a “NorthSea” one piece coverall made by Hammill, navy blue. Side zips on the legs up to the hips make it easy to get on and off, all quilted inside with additional extra thick fleece on torso and inside hood. With thermal tights and a sweater it keeps me toasty at -20F! Not as heavy as the Carrharts, it is a heavy nylon on the outside.

YES!

Once you get carharts you’ll never go back! i had some decent coats before i got one this year and i love them i have a pair of bibs and a coat and they are so warm:)

Heck, our vet has a website with his pic on it…in his Carhartt overalls…

OMG how could we function without them!?

This past week we have had a record low for the decade in Texas. It’s been down in in the singles and feels colder, negatives with wind.

My Dickies. They are my love.
I bought my folks aviator/bomber hats this winter.
I wish I had gotten one for myself!!

Absolutely!!! I have bibs and two coats. When I was barn manager, I would put my riding pants on underneath and do my “work” and then just slip them off to ride:-) They have been used and abused for YEARS and are still going strong!

Heck yes!

Honestly, they are a relatively new discovery for me. I didn’t like how stiff they were at first but I basically lived in them for a few months and they are soft and wonderful and super comfy now. I look for excuses to wear them now. I’m only on my first pair… purchased a couple of years ago and they are still going strong.
