I am not talking about a rescue situation. If you want one and don’t want to contribute to the red hot mess by breeding to Redwine directly you still have a way to obtain one.
I have been sitting on the sidelines, refraining from posting against Jill Burnell because I still have a paid breeding to Redwine, but I’ve made up my mind. I am going to cut my losses and try to forget about the $1400 I just gave away.
I want to share my story, mostly to vent and come clean, but also to add another skill to Jill’s resume. Preying on people’s emotions.
I have a lovely 3yr old by Apiro, who is everything I could have hoped for. Before he was even a yearling, I bought another breeding to Apiro because I love him so much. However, our first free jumping episode had me very concerned (update at end of post,) and I posted on this forum asking for advise, never mentioning the sire of my colt. A “friend of Jill’s” whom I can assume was actually Jill in alter, PMed me, somehow knew I had a foal by Apiro, and proceeded to bash him, telling me that his foals don’t jump well, but that Redwine’s foals ALL jumped superbly. Not to mention some other nasty comments she made. I was told NOT to rebreed to him. Then coincidentally, Jill herself PMed me, and told me I didn’t even have to pay her right away, she would ship the semen when ever I wanted it. How kind! So I took her up on her offer and sold the Apiro breeding.
My mare never caught and I ended up selling her, so Jill told me I could use the stud fee towards a foal. If not for Jill I would have a 2 year old Apiro baby! More importantly, I have been overwhelmed with guilt for lying to Barbara, aka showjumper66. I told her I wasn’t breeding my mare that year, which (probably karma biting me back,) I never did. Well I’m coming clean!
I am truly sorry, and I hope Jill is shut down, she is not a nice person. I wonder how many others have been manipulated that we don’t know about.
Update! My Apiro colt jumps fantastic now, and he’s been under saddle for 2 months, and is AWESOME. I would recommend Apiro and Barbara Sikkink of Silver Creek Farm to ANYBODY.
Apiro and Barbara are the bomb! I want to add that what you described was Jill’s MO and you were by no means the only one to fall for it. She bashed lots of stallions but Apiro seemed to be particularly under attack which means she must have liked him a lot. Nobody ever said she didn’t have a good eye for horses!

Years ago I had a CA Brokers License - no longer active; but I know that CA used to have some of the toughest SELLER disclosure laws. What rights would a seller have in this scenario assuming that they were misled? Somebody get that seller a real estate attorney and GOOGLE. I just knew in my gut the carnage with this Jill Burnell had only just begun. :no:
I suspect you wouldn’t keep any horse at most farms here on the west coast if you think that all pastures have to have grass.
A pasture has grass–by definition.
Otherwise, it’s a dry lot.

Yeah, I took a peek at the recorded documents. Looks like there wasn’t an attorney involved. Seller just used a standard form DT… looks like they didn’t have many professionals involved in the transaction.
I have no idea of what a BORROWER (because that is what she is under this carry back loan) has to disclose. I have a feeling it is lender beware.
The ASPCA is a NYC based organization and has no jurisdiction in California.
(Though they do like to run national TV ads asking for $$. Better to donate to your local shelter.)

Not to derail this 300 post thread, but I’d love to see photos of your Apiro colt. I’ve only seen two Apiro foals, both fillies, a year apart… to young to tell how they jump, but he really stamps his foals. I love the phenotype. And his pedigree is so so so appealing to me. Not to take anything away from Rotspon, but Argentinus… wow-o-wow!!! One of my all-time favorite stallions. :yes:

Hey! Absolutely no worries on this end. Summer and I knew what was going on as I had a huge number of people contact me to tell that this had also happened to them. I suspected that Jill had contacted everyone who either bred to Apiro or who had voiced interest on a public forum. Then there was the thread on the hunter/jumper forum where Jill and her followers used aliases (said they were professional trainers) to spread lies/rumors about Apiro. Personally, I feel that it is a shame that she felt the need to do this as Apiro and Redwine are very different so shouldn’t have been competing for the same mares and have the potential to complement each other (i.e. Redwine daughters to Apiro or vice versa).

So Kim, since she hasn’t screwed you (yet!) it’s all good right? Even you don’t deny that there are many people who have been wronged by her lack of ethics and criminal actions so how can you possibly defend that? I personally wasn’t harmed by her either but I sure as hell don’t think the way she operates is right and want to make sure the word gets out so no one else suffers at her hand.

No Laurie i did not say all was good. I’m not sure how you get that out of me trying to state FACTS. When I see falsehoods presented as fact and people trying to scare the shit out of anyone who has a horse with Jill I felt the need to present FACTS that I saw with my eyes at the farm. I am very sorry those facts don’t back up what others have said. And of course took a risk of being beat up by you all despite the fact I stated several times I did not CONDONE or EXCUSE anything.
