"DOUBLE JEOPARDY!" - Old Horse Show Trivia

I remember them. Thanks for the update, Shorty. I had no idea they became police horses, how interesting. So what happened to Wee Willie (I believe he was the first of the three “Wee’s” that Wee Three was named for?)

Speaking of poor Danny Robertshaw…name a) the trainer with whom he rode as a junior, and b) the first trainer for whom he rode professionally, and got his start.

A cheese sandwich was also acceptable in the sandwich case, end crusts cut off and must be wrapped in wax paper ~ No jewelry either ~

So what was the answer to the questions about Paige Johnson, et al…

Behind every good woman lies a trail of men

I think they had Lyps still. And maybe Val. Ahhhh well, that’s a start.
Speaking of Mellow, what was the name of her cute brown hunter who immigrated with her from Tenn.?

Lyps, NOPE
Val, NOPE
I forgot the hunter, but it WAS very cute…

And all Abby’s C horses lived in the C state. CT. that is. And yes, right through our aisle she did blast.

As far as the “orginial” hunter classic…it could have been in Palmetto. I remember Flipper was in it, but can’t remember if he won.

But, in those days of working hunters, the rider has to be either Rodney or Bernie.

Do tell, Alex.

By the way, in that particular classic, the horses jumped a liverpool at about 4’6". Now those were working hunters. And at Upperville they jumped the bank. (For newbies, the bank used to be between the two hunter rings.)

Jane Womble and Katie Monohan when trained by Jimmy Lee-don’t know the other one Maybe when John Shafner had him possibly Debbie

Johnny’s Pocket won the Grand Prix of Devon (1981). Name his 3 professional riders (forget his junior jumper career, please).

And the same rider won in 1982 as well. Can you name THAT horse?
hint - Canadian owned.

The memories being posted are the BEST! Making us all yearn for them. Altho, I will bet many did not yearn while they were going on

Flew back to US after an international event. 747 with only horses and some motorcycle parts. Like a giant empty whale belly!
Flight organizer had to come up with CASH so that the pilot would take off (this was a little scary to witness, actually).
Boxed lunches served in the “lounge” - above the cargo compartment (used a ladder to climb up). No furniture. Sat on floor. One of the flight crew noticed there were 12 boxes and 13 people. There was a stowaway aboard!!(he had hidden in a horse box holding a dressage horses head - huge white stallion). When we got to Newburgh (NY), the 13th person walked off the plane, leading a horse (like we all did), and caught a ride with one of the horse vans…

Can anybody name the stallion? CHRYSOS (Hilda G!)

Bernie and Buddy are correct. But I believe Michael Hunter actually threw a leg over him as well. Also, Terry Rudd rode him at Newport one year.

Kryswyn, Good one! I had in mind Debbie Wilson’s Market Rise.

I imagine Maryann Stiert (sp) also rode Ruxton.

Timmy purchase WD from Vince Dugan, he had previously raced over timber. He sold him to a junior named Tammy Freund and the Freunds traded him to the Nielsens for a horse named Summer Solstice. He went from Karen Nielsen to Jenny Belknap.
Real trivia, Karen Mackenzies grey hunter Shakespeare was out of the same mare as the Nielsen kids great equitation horse French Leave.

You have a great memory MB!

Hey yd, my email to you is all being returned. What’s wrong?

klg-
This was way before Johnny’s Pocket was around!

Arrive Alive???

Name the working hunter George Morris showed in the late sixties(?) I believe the horse and rider are pictured on the jacket of his first edition.

Who rode Mr Bar Doo Too? (open speed)
Who trained him?
I would ask who owned him, but I forgot

I am so bad at trivia, but this is a great thread. Hey , does anyone remember a granprix rider, older male, from I’d say in the late 70’s early 80’s , who over top of all the jumps was COMPLETELY unattached to the horse except for holding the reins?? I saw him at Ox Ridge and to this day have no idea how he did it. maybe British?? He was a great crowd pleaser!!Did well too as I remember ( and that seems to be all I remember)
PS How does one get those little gremlins in your message???Thanks

Kevin Bacon.

but the nickname question is one I could have answered, too, if I’d seen it in time! Drat!
