"DOUBLE JEOPARDY!" - Old Horse Show Trivia

Emmet –

Didn’t Touch the Sun start – or at least pass through – Chicago? I believe that Tim Sullivan and maybe Nancy Whitehead were involved in his early career.

CS! It just came back to me.
I remember well the day CT got hurt at Fairfield. It was particularly upsetting because it was within a few days of Ashley having purchased him. He was one of the first horses I really admired, I was a kid at the time. Count Tuscan, Hot Soup and a first year horse named From the Beach are the ones I remember watching. I can remember watching Ronnie show From the Beach and thinking I had never seen anyone ride that well. He was such a wonderful rider.
Anyone remember Eve and Randy from those Nimrod days?

Correct - Em’s Brother was Raymond.
What was the name of his farm ?
– hint it was in Pennsylvania.
What was the name of the horse…

Cynthia Williams also showed Royal Blue

Not Larry Mayfield-it was a long time ago-I’ll hopefully remember.

Have certainly enjoyed your coverage of Alice’s experiences in Europe since Sept. 11; please thank her for me for sharing, and also for competing in the Nation’s Cup finals. I do think it was important for us to make a showing there!

C’mon, any other guesses? Abby and Emmet, you ARE eligible for this one!

(They thought the flat was in the afternoon.)

Marley Goodman?

First woman
Do I get 3 guesses?
Jessica Newman (Ransenhausen)
Mary Mairs (Chapot)
Kathy Kusner

LaurieB --Now THAT’s a picture of a horse show! Big tents lined up and a huge field. Just one row of cars by the tents (other cars were parked in a separate lot).

OHHHH, I am taking a trip down memory lane, with that picture! Back in a while…

Hot Shot Kid did not have the prettiest of heads, did he? He was a GOOD jumper, though, as I remember. Was he a small TB?

Highfields ponies.

I don’t remember Walter White ever teaching at Hill Top. He taught at a stable in Green Village, N.J. before moving on to West Orange Riding Club. What a blast from the past. He was my first instructor.

Alex, it’s on the tip of my tongue but…

I think the horses usually stand still because they’re afraid to move in that whirling crowd. Actually, the good ones just know somehow!

I’d call it Survivor!

I sent an email to Erin yesterday to see if she could do anything (I think it was probably my pictures that finally did it in).

Maybe we could move the first 50 pages to a different thread?

nope

You are both wrong! Keep guessing. Hint: horse was chestnut and belonged to Frances Rowe. And no I was not the lunger. Hint: lunger had previously been in the employ of Patty Huekeroth.

And if it’s not the longest running thread, we need to keep it going so it ends up in the Guiness Book of most entertaining and least relevant.

Where’s Alex? Run out of stumpers?

Mr. Trebek:

Re 1):

In addition to Maid of India, add Romparound, Leave em Laughing and Last to Leave.

An easy trivia question: who showed Leave em Laughing in the jr division?

Stranded in Iowa was actually a jumper, puchased from Leslie Burr’s barn, I believe. Name two other jumpers owned and shown by MM? Hint: one was sold to a jr, the other won in the grand prix ranks on the west coast.

Sad to say that I remember them more vividly than I do most of the people I showed against this past weekend.

This past weekend? Lets see now, Did I show this past weekend?

what about Lisa Castellucci as an equitation rider?”

I recall the crowds at “Harrisburg” stomping (!)after a Lisa C. round. What was the name of her super duper equitation mount? (I am thinking Foreign Exchange, but maybe he was a GP horse…)

Anybody?

Kathy Gifford rode with Judy Richter and Ellen Raidt (now Lordy) and then Norman which is how Jeffrey got the ride on Dark Sonnet when Kathy had to retire from showing (I think something was wrong with her eyesight from a fall many years earlier).

And yes, she also had Doc O’Dea too, and was practically unbeatable in the juniors on him. Besides being an incredible rider, she the nicest and interesting person.
