"DOUBLE JEOPARDY!" - Old Horse Show Trivia

My question still is - was the picture taken at the Old Smith town Hunt Horse show grounds out on the island? I remember the beach there across from the show grounds being very rocky and difficult to get a horse across. My old fuzzy brain can’t remember if it was out in the Hamptons or not or what the grounds were called. I just remember the beach, the outside course, and that A shows were held there.

The A show was called North Shore Horse Show. The grounds are in Stony Brook NY. The Smithtown Hunt also ran a show at the same location in the summer. North Shore Horse Show ran the week after Piping Rock, early in September.
After North Shore Horse show ceased running the grounds were used for a series of A shows run by Hugh Cassidy.
Yes, the beach is across the street.

Jane Womble (Gaston now) I can’t remember the horse’s name.

what about Lisa Castellucci as an equitation rider?”

I recall the crowds at “Harrisburg” stomping (!)after a Lisa C. round. What was the name of her super duper equitation mount? (I am thinking Foreign Exchange, but maybe he was a GP horse…)

Anybody?

Touch the Sun?

What was The Natural’s original name? (when he came off the plane).
(sorry, nobody from Plain Bay may answer this).

Junior’s dad whose name I can’t remember.
Junior, Charlie Poindexter and later, Turkey aka Edward Twyman.

Yes, the third rider I had in mind was Joan Boyce.

Now back atya…name four grooms who were fixtures at HTS. Emmet excluded from the count.

Extra credit-match them with a horse.

Alex, Bradley!! I was trying to think of her name.

Awwh gee, I know the answer to that one. .

Not Stroller. I think that pair was '68 and were Silver Medalist.

The one I have in mind was a young lady by the name of Debby Jonsey representing Great Britian. Can’t remember the horse’s name but it jumped the tight two double of verticals after the Olympic water, in one with nary a fault. Sure weren’t perty, tho’.

Hunter ?..you’re getting warmer. Alex, this one should be right up your alley.

or just haven’t had enough coffee - verify the answer to the Hilltop driver question, please.

Still waiting for answers to: Conrad’s Medal/Maclay horses, one of which was Golden Alibhai, who was the other?

And, what was the devastating illness Frances suffered which delayed Joe and Conrad’s split with her?

Peace and Plenty was a beautiful side saddle horse that Rose Marie Bogley showed in the late 70’s and early 80’s. It was groomed to perfection by the late Peter Wilson and we were given much entertainment to see he or Bill Wolfe school it for her while riding side saddle sans habit!!!

What Junior hunter in the 70’s went on later to be a top grand prix horse ridden by the said junior (who at that time was a an adult)?

ALEX???

Dottie Flanders (now Ammerman, I’m told?)!

Ma, hint for ya: also rode a white-faced chestnut jumper with a “fatherly” nickname.

Good job, you hunter experts! How did you ever pick one of the few I had to care for???

Laurie

Yes JFC did show Brassy. I was there (and Abby was there!).

the first horse inducted into the U.S. Showjumping Hall of Fame?

The Terry Rudd picture does look like the old Radnor Hunt Pony Club Ring.
The Ring Master pictures was NOT Mr. Buchannan ( Debbie, Winkie & Betsy’s father).
Keep trying !

Thank you both for those answers. For the life of me, all I could remember was Plain Brown Wrapper! Talk about stuck…

Okay, NEEEEEEEXT???

You beat me to the Nagro/Forman/Sandy answers. I too spent some time there in my youth.

GM’s first fancy stable was in Millbrook at the farm of Mrs. Ripley. Can’t seem to remember what it was called. More coffee!

What renowned owner of show jumpers:

 1. has a gorgeous former TB farm outside of Philly;
 2. went from owning h/j to dressage;
 3. had a very famous racehorse live out his days on the farm;
 4. and really started the European import thing?

Also, name the farm, racehorse family the owner is descended from, the famous racehorse and the European import.

That ought to keep you busy!

A related question?

How many riders showed up to the show the morning after Kim’s Song was retired?

I am sure this brings back many memories for many of you. I heard the story for the first time while sitting in the POD Wednesday.

And yes the POD is home to the Mogavaro and Ring 8 announcer. The judges for Ring 8 sit by the ring though. Next week it will also be home to dressage.

It is a very complex building. Complete with it’s own “facilities” just outside the door. Imagaine a warm Sunday afternoon!

Hap Hansen, I think -

Or Rodney.

That’s American rider - internationally. Hmm, not sure. (Not in this book - although, I could tell you about World Cup classes!)

YD: I have a question! Do you know what the CH stands for in the name CH A Sweet Treat?

I don’t know the answer, I just wondered. Saddlebreds that win at their Worlds Championships in KY get a “CH” prefix put in front of their name.

anyone?

Midnight Run

Well I think the junior rider was Genie Grigsby and one of the horse’s was Rocky Racoon but the other name is escaping me. I’m too busy thinking of who to have dinner with at the VHSA Dinner on Saturday night since Sea Urchin begged for weeks to go out with me and has since decided as of yesterday to ditch me…for a small matter of being broke!! I am bereft!!! This is almost as bad as being ditched at the Prom.

Wasn’t Maggie’s other horse Square Lakes?

Another trivia question…Who showed Square Lakes in the junior jumpers in the early 80’s in VA with an at the time MD trainer???

Re: Question about the mare and her daughter – it HAS to be Sign the Card with Jane Womble (trained by Jimmy Lee) – So MargaretF must be right. But something about the daughter’s name sounds a little off — Didn’t Sign the Card have Turn The Card?
