"DOUBLE JEOPARDY!" - Old Horse Show Trivia

Touch the Sun was in Carl Knee’s barn before Lisa got him. His owner was a junior rider, I can almost remember her name but not quite. I do remember what she looked like. She had red-blonde hair.

Yellow Dog-
I remember a few riders starting out in the Grand Prix with Dark Sonnet. Katherine and Jeffrey come to mind. However, I think Jeffrey got his first Grand Prix win at Harrisburg with Sonnet.

Conrad’s fall WAS NOT at Southampton.
Junie Kulp’s was at Penn National - what horse ?

Cynthia started Royal Blue then Bernie Traurig, rode him through his working years

Where did he win them and who were the judges?

Mrs Averell Harriman’s…

somethingerother

East or west coast rider? Kim Benzel?

<<How can that be? McLain St, the horse, was from the '60’s. McLain the child was a product of the '70’s… No?>>

And didn’t someone named Johnny Bell originally ride McLain St., the horse?

Was it Carol Durand?

Next question. Where and how did she die? And for extra bonus points on the cruise, name the horse that led to her demise.

Hot Shot Kid came from Dick Atkinson, (who later had the stable at the corner of Goshen & Providence Roads)-I think he was Terry’s first trainer, before Junie Kulp at All Around Farm.
Hot Shot was a great jumper and got a very good ride - Terry was outriding all the other kids back then.

Oh, my God, he came from Grenci’s? Who had him there and when? I passed through there very briefly- maybe I knew him before he was famous.

For the 60s, I think the three most consistent producers of good ponies were

Gwynedd, e.g. Thorwell, Wishing Well, Oh Well, Nip 'n Tuck (all with prefixes dropped)

Highfields. e.g. Highfields Town and County, Highfields Master Thom, Highfields Unforgettable

Farnley, e.g. Farnley Nimbus, Farnley Icing, Farnley Galilee

I’ve never heard of Crebilly. Where were they based? Who were some of their good ponies?

Imports from the past - Bert DeNemethy (HUN); MacCone (oh! he was an EXPORT!); Balbuco (ARG) (hint); Karen Golding (GBR); Dennis Mackenzie

How about this question?
How many strides down the last line at the 1984 Olympic games?

(just kidding)

Until tomorrow… On what horse did Katherine Burdsall win the Baltimore Grand Prix? (1984)

And yes the POD is home to the Mogavaro and Ring 8 announcer. The judges for Ring 8 sit by the ring though. Next week it will also be home to dressage.

I have been to the POD to visit DD and KK (when he is not in the tower). Just didn’t know it had a name!

here’s a hint:

anyone need a new saddle?

by the way yellowdog, isn’t it time for the annual bath?

Turkey?

Rexford:

I believe the Chases are someplace on Dixon Beach on West Okoboji, not too far from the Inn. I didn’t realize there was a connection with h/j. Is there a Chase who still rides?

To the question: Name two riders who got their start on the INHJA circuit who are current winners in the grand prix ranks.

LH6 (I think…)

One more that I can answer myself so I know if people get it right or wrong:

Name 3 horses (and their riders) who did the equitation finals and then went on to become successful grand prix jumpers with those riders.

what about Lisa Castellucci as an equitation rider?”

I recall the crowds at “Harrisburg” stomping (!)after a Lisa C. round. What was the name of her super duper equitation mount? (I am thinking Foreign Exchange, but maybe he was a GP horse…)

Anybody?

Good call - it was Foreign Exchange - one of the best eq. horses ever

I don’t remember Kathy Gifford. Did she have Doc o’ Day before or after the Novicks? The Nielsens almost got him from the Novick’s for Karen, but it never happened…
