"DOUBLE JEOPARDY!" - Old Horse Show Trivia

Nah… It was a girl. Katherine (Gifford?) - who was from the Saratoga area, I think. I recall she rode with Neal Shapiro and then went to Dello Joio’s I think. Then Jeffrey got the ride some how. Who can remember THAT far back.
Kathy (?) had 2 wonderful jumpers. I think the other was the great Doc O’Day (who ended up in Florida).

You have named some of the fixtures although I would have to add Norman Woffrey to that list. I wish I had a scanner too as I have a great guess the horse, guess the groom photo.

I didn’t remember until you mentioned it, and it would have been later than his ride on Riot Free by several years. And Play the Music is correct, he was Stogie in the barn.

Whatever happened to Miss Dottie?

Laurie

Close to the right place in the alphabet, but almost a generation earlier.

Another clue- the trainer in question is now the Towells’ neighbor.

Did we give up on the French? How about Spanish next? Then I’m pretty much out of languages.

Nope, Emmett -need to clarify - NOT the junior rider at the same time (ie. not Charlie) - but trust me, YOU, of anyone, will know this one! LOL

Just one more reason so many horse people are heathens!

Easy one: Who was the rider, horse and trainer to win the Maclay the first time they tried to limit the number in the Garden, and what was the year?

And who had Escadrille before Lynnie? (Think Timmy Kees connection…)

NOT! Just friends.

We need some organization here! Too many old questions go unanswered because we move on to a new page and they are forgotten…

Perhaps we shouldn’t post a new question until the one on the table is answered and confirmed by the questioner?

And in the subject line, put the question that you are answering, especially if it is one of the older ones.

So, all posters with unanswered questions, bring them back up here and let’s get them answered. I’m still waiting for:

  1. Conrad’s other borrowed horse (Golden Alibhai is one)

  2. Frances Rowe’s medical problem that kept J & C around an extra year, and gave them the confidence to go out on their own.

  3. Match horse to rider (all jumpers)

                  Bandit
                  Shotgun
                  Aspen
                  Fair Warning
                  Y-Hugo
                  Bullwinkle
                  Sandor
                  Grey Chief
                  Do Right
                  Springer

Laurie

Please name the horse and the rider.
Hint, not the same combination as the International Champions.

The above post was not a clue. Repeat after me, NOT a clue.

OK, I’ll relent and give a clue- era: mid 80s.

I was showing ponies all around the area where Tanrackin was located during the 60s. Mrs. Waller had three ponies that were being shown by Meta Boykin, all of them English imports: Pollyanna, Menlo, and Welland Valley Early Bird. I never saw any homebreds of hers anywhere, though those may have come later (produced from the mares mentioned above?)

Where did Weatherford go? Wasn’t she going to give us an answer to this question?

Windrush?

I thought it was Tampa, but then I figured that was too simple, it must be some obscure show in Europe that just LOOKS like Tampa!

IOW, I thought it was a trick question.

Norman Dello Joio

hahahahahahahahahaha

Emmet, an elder, will know the answer.

WC Yellowdog earned the title from wins (imaginary or otherwise) at the FINEST tin-roof events in the world.
Princess might be the TRUE WC, but at least I can pass the testers.
Age? I am timeless.

Yesterday pop quiz: Alex Trebeck’s farm has Thoroughbreds.

Alex… more???

A dirty dog is a happy dog.

Name the Open Speed/GP horse (whose sale both the first and second time bought farms!) lent to the team and ridden by Michael Matz in the early 80’s?

Prim 'n Proper - Nancy Baroody - Large Pony. The rest are hidden somewhere in the reaches of my otherwise fried brain… (Wasn’t Prim originally a Highfield’s pony? As such may have originally been ridden by Thom Hardy.)

Well we already did San Felipe (above) - Quiet Please was the chestnut, right?

And how about the name of your former college mate’s (LOL) bay horse in the Maclay win? LOL

That’s too easy, you’re bound to know that - here’s a harder one (which Emmett will know):

The name of the bay A/O horse successful
w/Rodney and ridden by what then amateur who is now a pro recently movedto Pa.? Name horse and rider.

Is by Doctrine x Finesse.
She was the last foal out of Finesse who died shortly after foaling her.

We drove the horse van to Spokane,Washington that day and picked the wee baby up and brought her back to EEC where we took turns hand feeding her on Foal Lac.
My mare Bumpkin immediately took a shine to her and I have photos of Bumpkin and her grazing in a small paddock built for her and her adopted mum.

I had the pleasure of seeing her in 1978/79 at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, England and have not heard anything more about her, or if she ever had foals herself.

I would love to hear how she did.

And Sundancer was a full brother to her.

Who was the only AHSA judge licensed in EVERY division/discipline?
