"DOUBLE JEOPARDY!" - Old Horse Show Trivia

SPEED HORSES –

Name the mare that Leslie used as a speed horse. She was wicked fast, but had NO breaks — at Ocala one year, Leslie had to circle the ring about 5 times after finishing the course because she could not get the mare to stop (or even slow down…)

Gary Young. Ah, yes, the neighbor clue headed me north.

Alex, got snow?! So, I knew half of the JP ?!! Still waiting for an answer to mine.

I’m not ready for Dr. Green yet. Perish the thought! LOL

Waht was the names of two junior hunters that also showed, and won, in the open divisions with the junior riding. Both horses came from St. Louis but were best known in the East.

Hint: They were named after a street and town.

To Lauirep. Is that Calypso?

Highclere and Valhalla

But I only count two (arf, arf).

I hadn’t thought of Carl, but Willa is one of the three…Also, I think Carl started here, then went to CA where he is now. His folks are near D.C…in the early 70’s, when I first met him, he was well established here…

Fetch another!

A/A has stumped me.

She may have another one that I’m not aware of, but THIS one is definitely in the a/a’s.

Aha, SJ first lady was Pat Smythe on Flanagan in 1956…

Do I win? Huh, huh?

…and Lake Placid… scary times. Tents falling down. Tornado in Detroit.
And also the flash flood of Sugarbush. Sometimes horse shows can be disaster areas, too.
A reminder folks-- when you’re on the road, make sure you always have a phone number in your grooming stall/tack room or on the front of each stall. How many times have we ALL found a sick, injured, or lost horse, and no idea where it belonged or who to contact…
And leave out a halter and rope for each horse!

How about Pine Hill? Of course there’s Wild Acres… one of the best ever shows in NE was The Derby (I miss that one…)

If I have to explain, you wouldn’t understand…

It wasnt’ Sloppy, was is it? I thought I remember he was a medal horse before his fantastic jumper debut.

yd Melton came out here…What a sweet horse, and what a good teacher.

ha! Peter D was there this morning!

I was just thinking of her horse —
John Barleycorn was it?

What in the heck is in my coffee???

WHO RODE 'EM ?
YOU MUST NAME AT LEAST 2 RIDERS FOR EACH HORSE>
IDLE DICE
ALBANY
QUIET FLIGHT
NIGHT MURMUR
SUNDANCER
BALBUCO
JET RUN
TOUCH OF CLASS
ABDULLAH

Sorry, LaurieB… But no one remembers Michael’s mount (USET loaned horse)?

Neat story - he was bought in Ireland for what at the time was considered an “exhorbinant amount of money.” I met the breeder/original owner in a Pub in Ireland last summer; he didn’t WANT to sell, but really wanted to buy a farm. So, horse sold; farm bought.

After the horse had made his name with Michael, and after Bert retired, the US owner also had an opportunity to buy a farm. Horse sold; farm bought!

But no one remembers the horse?

Here’s one for the children of the 80/90’s. What pony did Kelly Farmer ride to her AHSA Pony Medal Final win, and what horse did she ride to her ASPCA Final win, and for a bonus, what year did she win each?

Kelly won the Pony Medal in '89 on Change of Heart. She won the ASPCA Finals in '94, I think she rode 14 Karat, but I’m not certain.

Upperville’s my fav. The only show I bring my “garden” too. LOL.

And nope, neither one. Give up yet?

I thought I had a stumper! You are right. Do you know who owned him when his name was Prince Scrappy?

More widely known: name three very famous grays that Billy Steinkraus rode to great success during his career.

How 'bout Whadyasay’s alias?

And yes, Yellow, he did consume flax seed, at least under my watch. What a character.

I am confused. Roger trained. Right? Must have been a while back (don’t recall seeing him in LP after the 70s).
Hints???
