"DOUBLE JEOPARDY!" - Old Horse Show Trivia

Alice on chestnut: Pico?

Next hint for the DEBBIE WILSON/FINALS/ NAME THE HORSE question:
It was chestnut.
It also showed as a jumper.

This post reminds me of a class years ago at Washington. Burgess Meredith needed to get all the stuff". Ira Schulman had his tack trailer at the end of the warm up ring and was more than happy to sell him everything he needed. Except when it came to the hound couples that had to be hung from the dees on the side of the saddle (remember those?)

Not having the hound couples, Ira took two leather lead shanks, coiled them up and sent Burgess on his way. Everything was working beautifully until the last line, when the hound couples came uncoiled and were trailing out behind him. Not to be deterred, dear Burgess just kept on trucking and even got a call back! I think the judges just wanted to see what he was up to! Not bothering to recoil the hound couples he proudly trotted in. After checking all the appointments, one of the judges mentioned, those were mighty long hound couples to which Burgess quickly answered they were Irish Wolfhound couples!

In the late 70’s Karen Lebo rode Even Gamble

Anne Jursinski rode him in the warm up class at Pan Am 1983 and she won

Schmoe-
Silk and Satin was a grey small junior that won a lot during that time, and was the nastiest horse I ever dealt with. She had quite a reputation on the ground! However, she was never shown by two sisters.
Emmett will remember another pretty nasty horse, who was fabulous and one of my favorites. Emerald Bay. He once won back to back speed classes at Lake Placid with a JUNIOR rider, walked out of the Grand Prix ring, I changed the rubber reins to leather and he walked into the hunter ring and won the Maclay flat work off, ten minutes later. Now that is a versatile horse! There were several grooms though that showed the proof of his barn temper with bruises and bite marks! I was one of them…

Irish?

I thought he was only 7 at the Olympics.

No, it isn’t Lucie again. The identity of that first pony is a tough one. All four behind her were much better known (each had multiple national rankings.) By the way this picture only shows the front of the line, after the cut. The class started with 25-30 entries.

hint: the first pony in line was a purebred Connemara, and like Lucie’s pony Flair, was based at Fairfield.

In the small model, I think Chantilly is 3rd and maybe Moon Comet first. In the large model, I can tell Prim n Proper is 5th - not sure about the others.

Miss those all around farm days!

MAD, someone with better eyes than me would have to answer that question, though it seemed like Artie Hawkins judged Ox Ridge just about every year back then, so it might well be.

WHAT ANSWERS?

Wow Alex…I’m glad my memory served me well. Here’s one for you. What famous hunter from the late 70’s early 80’s became a very successful A/O horse. Name horse and rider. I don’t think this horse had ever been ridden by anyone but a pro.

Speaking of Icey Paws, name the horse with a very similar name and the junior who showed him.

Northern Magic did medal finals at least once.

Go to the head of the class! Very good. I do believe it was her brother James that rode Tiny’s Thoughts who was by the stallion Twenty Five that stood in the mid west (I think).

Well it was the Horner sisters for sure. Can’t remember who the mom was or the ponies at this moment… way too early for me. I’m just up getting the cold medicine! Was the horse Eversham? Ponies…hmmmm Polaris Starship and Polaris Smarty?

“way too early” huh? I assume you mean way too early in the morning and not way too early in time, since, of course, you’re far OLDER than Alex Trebek.

Yes, the Horner sisters - one out of four answers Ms. Square. Have some coffee.

LOL, Janet! If I could READ the rest of the thread, it would be much easier! I keep missing pages at a time!

You are right about Sally, of course!
