Damn it! You need to test for LYME!
What I want to address is how many times people have noted how much money she donates. Reminds me of all the good work the mafia is involved in. I guess nothing is as important as the gift of money.

It’s a rare “make over” show that doesn’t leave me thinking the people (or homes) were better off without the “help,” which at least comes off as well-intentioned, which has hardly been the case with the criticisms spewed out on this thread.
While What Not To Wear is not exactly intellectual TV, it is pretty inspiring to see the transformation that Stacy London and Clinton Kelly help these women with. I too don’t always agree w/ the “new look”, but there is no disputing that overwhelmingly the women feel much more confident and beautiful about themselves than before.
The same people complaining about the coat would be the first to gripe if she had shown up in her birthday suit.
9 pages. 9 pages about a woman’s coat…
OTOH, I find it comical that people can justify using leather goods because they are a “byproduct” of the meat industry, while openly stating in OT that they only buy locally raised beef/are vegetarian because of slaughter house conditions. Byproduct or not, if you buy these leather goods made from factory farm byproduct, you are still part of the problem.
I find it disheartening that this thread doesn’t contain recipes by now. 9 pages about a fur coat is just crazy. Spring can’t come soon enough!

Yum!
And very funny.

Shes a young tweener or teen IIRC. She does show. They don’t hide her but try to stay low key. Must be hard to read adults trashing your mother like a bunch of high school mean girls. The fur debate I get. The I don’t like your hat and self esteem projections, not so much.
Say again, you need to look at more win pictures if you think this one is so especially bad. Or actually go to Palm Beach in high season, there’s a lot of …different…looks out there. Even more bad Botox.
I’m surprised we don’t hear more about her given how much we hear about Tori.
The daughter is 11, turning 12 this year, and I don’t think I’ve seen her name mentioned much anywhere even though Betsee owns tons of very nice ponies that do very well on the circuit. How come her daughter isn’t on one of these?
It was cold. It was REALLY cold (for Florida).
I don’t know what her health issues are, but I get that she wanted to be warm. For a split second, I was jealous that she looked so toasty, because I was an absolute icicle there in the stands.
Let’s just say she has unique fashion tastes and be done with it. Fur is not some people’s cup of tea, and that’s fine. But it is for others, and we don’t know the circumstances surrounding this particular coat so we should just drop the issue. Ok? :D
I watched the show. It was 53 degrees at the time. Cold for Florida but come on. Not full length mink-type cold. Note I’m not commenting on her fashion sense. But anyone needing a full length mink coat at anything above 30 degrees is having serious medical issues. She should have been wearing ear warmers, a hat and gloves to prevent heat loss from the most vulnerable places.
I agree, she appears to have unique fashion taste. Nothing more, nothing less. She certainly looked out of place in that coat and with the cowboy hat. Where is Tim Gunn when you need him!
To quote Delta on ‘Designing Women’:
“It’s OK if I eat a little mink steak.”

Well, no Nazis yet but we now have the mafia. Quite a talented troll started this, one so firmly against fur she hid behind an alter. But surprised how downright, personally mean it’s gotten.
Oh, her daughter rides as a hobby-for fun. She’s pretty good but she’s not TC and her Mum does not want her to have to be. Just look at some of the trashing TC gets on here and elsewhere.

I think the short answer is that it’s really none of our concern. The long(er) answer is that the kid simply isn’t into showing to the same degree as her mom and Tori. Not every kid wants to live the life of Tori Colvin! Even if they have the means!
ETA SnicklefritzG, my umbrage isn’t directed toward you specifically! I’ve seen so much rampant speculation on COTH and the other board about Betsee’s relationship with her daughter that it makes me a litttttle bit crazy.
I don’t think many on here are really aware of the pressure these uber talented kids, especially the catch riders are under to perform from owners, trainers and even their own parents. They catch hell for mistakes on all fronts, just not out in public. Its anything but loving a horse/Pony and having fun.
And for Gods sake, BPs daughter just turned 12 and has her own Ponies and, presumably, a horse or two to just enjoy riding and showing, not farming it out to a catch rider to worry about qualifying for this or that and going to Europe and the fast track to elite level.
Its great BP makes them available for those kids who want to go that route. Don’t blame her for not pushing her daughter into it. I wouldn’t want it for my child.

You are reading waaay too much into my post.- which is a comment about the temperature + attire - meaning if a guy is comfortable wearing short sleeves and shorts, one could say that it might be a bit tad over the top to don a full length, heavy looking fur coat (vs a different type of fur/style) that would be, IMO, more appropriate for apres ski strolling along the streets of Aspen where snow capped mountains form a backdrop rather than a background of palm trees. I !
The groom’s polo and man-pris have nothing to do with bP’s choices. Haven’t you ever been out and wondering how in the heck someone isn’t freezing their tuckus off in whatever they’ve chosen for the day? I will often be bundled up in my -10 rated ski parka and some teenager is in a tank-top and the ever present CA footware choice of flip flops.
bTW, I left the house this morning and it was 51 degrees and I kept muttering to myself how cold it was. I was in a long sleeve thermal, a down vest and a parka. Anyone care to comment on how that much clothing for 51 degrees was ridiculous? Anything below 65 for me is cold. It’s the perk of where I live.

My Carhartt keeps me toasty warm, even in -35c weather, with just a thin t-shirt underneath. No need for fur. My saddles, boots, etc, probably came from what, 2 cows, that someone bbq’d. The leather is a by product of the food industry. Fur for fashion is wrong on so many levels.
I’m curious. Have you bought into the myth that mink, chinchilla, etc. are killed only for their fur? Are you unaware of the byproducts?

The thing is, one doesn’t have to have black or white opinions, or take an extremist stance on everything.
I am personally OK with eating meat and wearing leather that’s been raised humanely and had a good death, or shot in the wild. I’m not OK with wearing fur from an animal that’s been kept in tiny cages and anally electrocted to get it’s pelt. Yeah - have a blast on YouTube looking up videos. Really turned me off: no way should animals live or die like that.
Just found out how angora rabbits have their fur ripped out of their skin, alive. Repeatedly. As they scream. And there I have been thinking they got a nice little shave every now and again. Ugh.
It’s all about quality of life and death.
