Dressage attire guidelines

They are custom made by Fredy Tailor, or Linda Weber makes similar custom coats. They are popular in the ASB/Morgan hunt seat crowd, but will customize as needed. Not crazy priced either. My friend ordered a coat from him and it’s lovely. Hers is definitely not allowed, but still stunning.

oh that might look dashing!!

I have two dark bays a chestnut and a grey so it gets tricky lol Mostly this is for one of the dark bays. I have a navy jacket too so maybe ill stick with that and a pale blue/grey breech or something like that.

That being said I have no idea if these rules are even being adopted in Canada lol.

From my understanding it is!

I am hoping to eventually do a blue/green mix outfit (already have blue boots, so need a blue jacket that I can add some green accents to and forest green breeches).

I’m excited we are branching out and people can express their individuality :grinning:

Personally, i really like a play of blues on a dark bay. Base tone and predominate being a navy with a piping/flash/pop-of-color of a bright medium blue. Tone of that blue going a hint toward green or toward red depending on horse’s underlying tone.

about your maroon jacket
i think their maroon/white in equal amounts is a non-lovely combo. I’d mix white in there for interest, but only as a …like 10%. and just so you could get away with silvers and grays(and crystals  )…as a transitional Like burgundy 60%, golde tone beige 30% and white 10%

…Is your gray horse white yet?

She looks like she is getting there, shes very light dapple currently with a black mane still!

I’m thinking blues might be the better choice for the dark bay too. Thanks for the good suggestions.

was she bay or black?
(i have two grays, one now all white and she was black arab) and one still dappled and he was a bay. So his color now is…kinda purpleish.

Once they’re white your options are ENDLESS!!! It’s the best colored horse to dress!

I’m having fun on a super soggy day off work, so in addition to olives, I think some of the French Blue and similar colors would also be lovely!

I have no idea, she was almost black when I got her as a 5 year old off the track, but Im not sure what colour she was as a foal.

Im super excited to be able to dress up with her!

Not to derail this thread into horse colors, but had to laugh at this because my young Paint is a bay with a lot of white hair throughout his coat. There are indeed times when I swear he looks downright purple!

I feel personally attacked. (clutches blingy browband collection)

Regarding the metal tags on fancy-schmancy pads: I’ve seen people simply cover them with black electrical tape for shows.

I think TS only makes fullseats in white and maybe beige. If they were smart, with these dressage rule changes and the USDF using their color range as an illustration of “legal colors” they’d hop right on the fullseat train.

Their pewter color is exactly what I was looking for in light grey fullseats I posted about in my thread on grey breeches!

And it says “solid” but they show a glove with a different color piping…what?

i think the attire po-po need to go back to finishing school. Nice wool plaid/houndstooth jackets, of a natural fabric are not ok? And yet totally plastic looking (non-flat seams~!!) with garish contrasting color collars and cuffs are fine? And boots …well, that wonderwoman pair is pretty barfy. I like a little bit different, but only if it is…organic(? don’t know the word i want… but it certainly isn’t ‘plastic-y’) The dressage arena is. going to start looking like a rodeo hootenanny soon

I doubt it.

I guess it depends on where you live, but the thought of wearing wool tweed in the show ring pretty much anywhere in the USA in the summer makes me come over all funny…

Sorry if I missed anyone saying this, but after looking through the guide…I’m pretty sure the difference between “acceptable” tweed and plaid and etc and “unacceptable” is whether the design is the same color but a different shade. So, like, a light blue jacket with a darker blue plaid pattern is fine, but a light blue jacket with red or brown plaid pattern is not.

…maybe. :joy:

This actually makes me glad that pony and me are on the downside of our showing career. Will stick to the navy Florida appropriate coats and white breeches because I have them and they fit. The color thing gives me a headache. Admittedly I come from a LONG career in the financial world where my business clothes ran black, navy, gray and on my really wild days, a red blazer. So its all I know.

I’m glad the rules are relaxed and I’m looking forward to seeing what people choose for showing, but I think the “traditional” attire will always be around and even in the majority, at least for the time being. I’ll be in white pants because I just scored a pair of very slightly used white FITS for $17.50! They were marked $25, but with a 30% OFF sticker on them.

Sooooo… Can one wear a leopard print show jacket now? Asking for a friend, of course.

I like the relaxation of restrictions on attire. It will make volunteering and ring-stewarding so much more fun. And what is the point of doing all of this, if you can’t have fun?!

I am really digging that burgundy jacket @Jealoushe posted… my cross country colors back in the day were burgundy and silver… Now they are burgundy/yellow or black/yellow, depending on the horse I’m riding… Maybe it’s time to look at a nice burgundy show coat
