Dutch harness horse drama. Update major mare/ foal neglect Nov 2023 post 1782 Update Kate Shearer responds post 1930 Nov 25/23

I cannot remember the name and I am trying to remember the promoters but can’t quite grasp it from the depths of my brain.
Was it the LaCroix’? And maybe it wasn’t a registry per say but a circuit or end of year awards or futurity type event?

There was either a registry or futurity or show circuit attempted. Iberian is correct.

Ooh I think you are right. But it has been within the last twenty years so it is not just us old timers. LOL
I can practically see the website in my head.

It may very well have been the LaCroix’, in combination with others. But I think this was before the “crash”? So well over 20 years ago. I cannot remember what they wanted to call this “breed”.
I stopped getting that tome, Arabian Horse World, a looonnng time ago. I don’t even know if National Show Horse is still a thing, although it had a good start with lots of participation. My daughter stopped showing Class A about 20 years ago. I focused on dressage and Sport Horse.

NSH is still a thing.

Although my horse is just registered half arab.

You’re going to make people’s heads fall off if they YouTube Show Hack.

Yes, there was an attempt at a new breed between DHH and Arab but for right now they are 1/2 arab.

Remember, a 1/2 arab must always be at least 50% arab but can be more. I had a 86% arab half arab. Registry like Anglos and NSH are were you can get less Arab blood.

I think the show portion was absorbed by National Show Horse Association.

Their National Show seems pretty strong as it is in my neck of the woods. The organizers do seem to keep it fresh and offer out of the box programs at the show. One year they invited all breeds to the academy classes and really promoted it to the local stock breed barns.

This is a HUGE show and a win is a big deal.

Yes, there was, but I’m damned if I can recall what it was.
It was similar to the idea of the National Show Horse “registry”.

Just to put the rumors to rest, Ivanka is NOT part draft.

She is Dondersteen x Heineke x Alchemist. Her dam Paula is VERY colorful and throws lots of colorful babies. That’s where the color comes from.

I suppose we will never know unless we peruse AHW from that era. LOL. And that is the era I don’t have very many of.

as an example, this is a colt out of the same dam as Ivanka. You can see that Paula is also very loud colored. image

For clarification, a few things:

  1. not all Dutch Harness Horses are registered KWPN. Some are only registered ADHHA. If they are registered ADHHA and not KWPN, the foals out of those mares are Register B only, no matter who the sire is.

  2. there is a very very big difference between “registered” and “accepted into the studbook”. Register B harness horse mares CAN be accepted into the studbook, but have many more steps that they must take in order to do so. Including a performance test and health testing (x-rays). A horse can be registered KWPN but not in the studbook. Massive difference.

  3. a foal out of a KWPN registered DHH mare and by an approved jumping sire is a Register A or Foalbook RIDING TYPE foal. TP x RP crosses have become quite common. However, the colts from these crosses have not so far been accepted to be looked at as stallion prospects. This may change in the future, but as of now I do not know of one.

  4. Horses out of grade dams, whether they are riding type or harness type, CAN be registered but will be Register B ONLY. This means it will take an additional generation to be able to get better papered foals.

  5. There are no such things as “full” papers for this registry. There is only Register B, Register A and Foalbook.

So much for the “auction.” Kate now has what looks like most of the herd up for sale on her FB page. She says “not fire sale, priced $8500 to $40,000.”

I count 5 broodmares, 5 2024 in utero, 5 2023, and 3 2022. I have no idea whether this is the whole herd or not.

She is going to post videos and prices "later this week.’

For someone who claims to sell everything before it hits the ground, or right after, that’s a hell of a lot of youngstock she’s been feeding (or not)
