I’ve never seen a gag in the USET before. I wish I would have known they were allowed when I was doing the class!
@ xcntrygirl, I hope you saw Kate Bundy’s halt. It was lovely.
How mandatory do you think the 7 is from the first gymnastic to the tan triple?
Random question. Since the finals are just finals and not affiliated with a show, why don’t the numbers just go 1 through however many riders?

It’s a pretty broken line, but I’d say the 7 is the smoothest option for most. If you did another number and made it work just as well, I don’t think it would be a major penalty.
A couple of people did 8 and made it look nice. If a horse lands and dives left the 8 is right there, but if you keep following and coming forward the 7 is preferred.
Is there live scoring up?

We’d have to see the course map. Sometimes, especially in the gymnastics phase, they want specific numbers even for non-related distances. That would also show the hand gallop to the halt between the mums before the trot polls, and the flying change after the last jump.
My feed froze for Charlotte and the beginning of Lillie. Anyone see how they did?

I thought Charlotte’s round was very nice. Lillie had a rail, but was otherwise great as always. We’ll just have to wait and see what the judges thought.

If I remember correctly, Charlotte had a really nice ride. Lillie had a few minor errors, when going to the first jump (trot poles to X to oxer) she had a minor canter/trot transition hiccup, and then she had a rail down in the 2nd to last combination (2 stride to 5 stride to 1 stride). However her equitation was lovely as usual, and her green jacket totally stands out. Also, bummer for Michael Hughes, he had a few minor hiccups as well (but rode really well overall). Seems like there were very few flawless rounds, so the top maybe is open? Someone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong
Gags have always been allowed over fences in the Talent Search. Just not allowed on the flat.
West Coast is available on demand, so I would expect this to be also, but not sure how fast.
Aw, I just missed the tail end of the gymnastics for the final rider I hope they put some replays, I really like watching the gymnastics (and kind of want to set up that bending bounce line and ride it!)

Last year, Don Stewart laid over at my barn with his big eq kids—he set an absolutely terrifying gymnastics course up for them to school over, but it was a lot of fun to play over at 3’!
Does anyone know if the horses’ names are listed anywhere? I like to stalk my favorites:)

Even if the posted course didn’t specify, sometimes you’re kind of expected to go the direct route. Without the instant feedback, I guess it’s kind of hard to tell, but I’d think the 7 would be preferred.

Charlotte absolutely rocked it. Lillie had some hiccups, as noted by ilovetheadd27 (great screen name, BTW–mine should be ilovethelongspot). Shame about Michael’s horse scaring himself through the poles and cantering them the second direction.
I adore the equitation. I just turned 45, but if I won the lottery, I think I’d go to Andre and say “Put me in the same program as your eq riders.” And then after the second day without stirrups, I’d slither off the last horse and limp over to my pitcher of G&Ts while calling my masseuse on speed dial.
Charlotte scored a 92, Lillie scored a 91.5.
Allison Toffolon “won” the gymnastics phase with a 93.
Here’s the order for tomorrow morning: http://usefnetwork.s3.amazonaws.com/pdfs/00/00/00/10/72/2013+usef+talent+search+east+-+jumping+phase+for+web.pdf
I’m REALLY surprised Michael got an 88 after he clobbered the trot rails. The rest was pretty good, but that’s a pretty obvious error… twice!

True, but I imagine it’s judged the same way as a rail is in the equitation—was it rider error? Or simply horse laziness?

I bailed before the SAT kids went–too bad I missed her.
