ExPat Shield/BBC watchers check in here!

Maybe this wilh help someone, but here is what has been working for me. I am assuming you have installed Ex Pat Shield and have the icon on your desktop. I am running Windows XP and my browser is Internet Explorer.

I start with a clean desktop. No apps open, Internet connection on. I do not even have IE open.

Click on Ex Pat Shield Launcher icon on desktop. It automatically opens with Internet Explorer. At the top of this web page, where you normally type in a website url, I put the bbc link (I believe it will currently have the expat app url, but you can replace that with the bbc one). I only had to type the whole bbc link once… the next time, IE listed it underneath for me to select. Now, you should be at the bbc website, and good to go with some navigation to equestrian events and then to the live player.

What firewall are you using? I’m just using the Windows firewall at the moment with no problems.

Uninstall the Expat Shield and download or install without the toolbar.

Connect to the internet before you open the program.

Use either Firefox with adblock or one of the Chrome clones for your browser. Apparently it doesn’t work well with IE.

Try one of the alternatives that Equibrit posted in one of the Mac threads. There’s a Firefox addon called Stealthy that allows you to use a UK IP.[/QUOTE]

Regular Windows firewall. A little box pops up that says local area connection unplugged and my computer cannot connect to the internet… is it because I have a wireless connection?

I’m trying to connect to BBC to see if the speed is any better. The live stream isn’t playing well on my computer even though I have the fastest internet speed available here.

Downloaded and paid… but it isn’t working. Have the icon, and trys to connect, but can’t get on. Tells me to talk to my system administrator  (me, of course).

Working on a MAC.

hmm…also stuck in canada with no live feed :frowning: is there an equivalent of expatshield that runs on macs?

what did you pay for Weatherford? expat shield is free… but no it does not work on macs…

Just downloaded expat shield from c-net and had the BBC page up and working within a couple minutes.

Catching up on yesterdays tests now. It’s a little slow but not too bad.

I’m thrilled to have access to the BBC coverage. I am watching yesterday’s replay as well.
( I fell asleep after 5 riders this A.M.)

What a lovely venue , and no obnoxious commentary (the BBC guys seem to know what they are talking about, which is a nice change).

Oh good! Thanks for the info.
I would have looked a right idiot if I hadn’t liked them!

Just Wow! Watching the Russian gentleman score an 80+.
I’ve never seen any ride ,in the Olympics, quite as awful as that one.

I think today’s Eventing dressage feed just went off the air. I was watching, Joris Springel had just gone, and then–BOOM, the marker moved over to the end of the yellow line.

So it’ll be at least midnight before I can see the rest if yesterday is any indication.

It’s working for me(so far).

OMG! Thank you so much, everyone! I’m using it through Chrome now. I will be watching things from the Beeb much more often now. I never knew such a thing existed. The Brit announcers are in general so much more pleasant than the the Americans, although Tim Daggett is pretty funny. I watched some of the dressage and almost all of Women’s Qualifiying in gymnastics. What a more thoughtful way of commentating.

Other than the annoying ads, which all seem to be boob related, at least I can finally see the BBC with intelligent commentary.

Really disappointed with Canada’s CTV monopoly and their serious LACK in showing ALL the sports to Canada, especially the equestrian. Yesterday, could watch the first day eventing on World Feed, but it appears CTV blocked World Feed for the rest of the games. At least on my connection.

As suggested in one of the earlier posts, I downloaded this http://adblockplus.org/en/ and have not seen any ads at all.

And I agree with CTV doing a really bad job, although someone did post a link to yesterday’s dressage video which is available on the ctv olympics site.

Is there a way to stop utilizing expat shield when not watching BBC? All my searches are giving me British results.

I had already tried that ad block link and for some reason it would not work for me. Oh well, I can tolerate the ads for now and just uninstall after all the equestrian events are done.

You will find a small shield in your tray (bottom right on taskbar - show hidden icons) If the shield is green you’re connected if red you are not. To disconnect right click the shield and click disconnect.

Thank you!

I don’t understand all the ad comments. I can set my security software to stop all that. (Kaspersky) If I go full screen it’s all lovely video.

It is supposed to be on OLN… but I am not holding my breath. Except for the finals of show jumping which should be on the main network…
