I have both the Schneiders and the Rambos. I realized I’m a Rambo convert for my horse with the opposable thumbs. She can’t destroy the Rambo blankets, and by destroy, I mean either shred or delicately take off.
I liked the fit of the Schneiders blankets for my ASB but the water proofing has never been great. They leak in the cut back area from water running down his neck/withers and the padding there gets soggy annd gross. Plus the entire blanket leaked in a heavy downpour the first month.
I have him in Weatherbettas currently which are a decent fit. Best so far.
My vote would be Rambo line if new horse has big shoulders/chest. I haven’t tried the Premiere blankets but they look really nice.
Thanks for the feedback. 12 or 13 years ago I bought a Schneiders for my older mare, and the waterproofing failed pretty quickly. Supposedly they are better now, but…
Every time I buy from Schneiders I am disappointed.
So the Ride-Away/Derby House business went kaput. Are there any similar companies with dirt cheap 100g blankets?
Once again it’s time to outfit the growing baby; last year’s wonky 60” is too small, but I’m not ready to invest in anything permanent yet. Funds seem to be perpetually limited lately, so I’m really only wanting to spend around $100 total on blankets for her. I was hoping I’d come across some higher end used stuff in her size, but no such luck. I threw an old unmarked rain sheet on her last night that I think is a 72 or 74 and it was baggy but safely wearable with room to grow. I’d like to get her a 100g and a mid weight. I really liked that mid weight I got from Ride Away for $38… another would be perfect for now…
Just curious, when you’ve had lack luster blankets from SSTack, were they the euro cut (no back seam) or the more shaped ones? When I outfitted everyone in the euro cuts, I found them very serviceable. The shaped zero fill sheets leaked, though, straight through that seam
I believe all mine are euro cut; no back seam on any of them except maybe a fly sheet. But lots of waterproofing and sizing issues.

Ugh, that’s a bummer
The new rambo supreme sheet (navy) is SO heavy! My previous version in the black and gold is noticeably lighter so im glad to think others think the new ones are pretty heavy!
I just got the Rambo Summer series and have been pretty pleased with it! Not sure the difference between it and the autumn series but the removable liner across the back is nice.
I got the Rambo Airmax Liner last winter and I have really liked it. I use it as a 50g liner for those days/nights when the temp is going up and down. I don’t have to worry about her getting overheated and sweaty. I have not put it on her when she was sweaty, but I would think it would help her to dry out.
Good to know it’s not just me. I also have the black and gold Supreme and LOVE that sheet.
I’ll check out the Summer series too. Had no idea these other options were out there.
How do I not know about the Airmax? I’ll check it out. Appreciate it!
Can you compare it to the regular liner? What I’m looking for is light and waterproof and allowing a liner underneath for chillier days.
OK and yes, the Summer and Autumn Series do seem to be what I’m looking for. Light and waterproof for days that start chilly and end up sunny and not able to get home. I’ve got the Autumn Series coming. Thank you!
I use the Airmax as a 50g. Both under a 0g turnout and my 100g Original Rambo. It is perfect combined with the turnout for those days when the temp is 40s in the day to 30s at night (my horse is stalled at night). I know I don’t have to worry about her getting overheated because this liner does pull the moisture from her.
My mare regulates her body temp pretty well. I find with the Airmax, she feels just a little cool. With a 100g liner, she feels warm.
Well I’m in luck - a local Morgan person has a bunch of blankets, size 66 to 72, from when her horses were young. I’m to take the lot of them, try them on Lola, and donate or give away whatever I don’t want. Phew. Hoping for a 100g somewhere in there, or something the Horsewear liners will fit into.
I go to Chick’s for most of my blankets now - they have a lot of close outs including derby house and Horze right now.

I’m local to them and actually have been meaning to swing by and see what I can pick up. When I was perusing their clearance a couple weeks ago I saw the size availability was all over the place, which is pretty typical for them.
Updating once again, as my 100g collection expands.
Have I mentioned I love 100g blankets?
I picked up a used but in great condition SmartPak Ultimate 100g for the yearling. She has gotten to wear it a few times and I’m a fan. My only complaint is it’s a 69”, which fits her perfectly with no room to spare… so it will surely be outgrown after this season. But that’s not the blanket’s fault! I think I prefer it to the the Rhino 100g wug, but the Amigo Bravo 100g Wug is still my favorite.
She has a Jeffers econo mid-weight on order to limp us through another winter. Hopefully by next year she will be in the same size as her dam so they can share a wardrobe.
I just ordered a Rambo Duo from SP. It’s a 100 gram blanket with detached neck plus a 300 gram liner. This is my second 100g for my new horse - the other is an Amigo Wug. I like to have both a Wug and a detachable neck in both a sheet and a 100 gram as I use them most often and like to have blankets that fit differently to avoid blanket induced soreness that seems to happen regardless of fit.
I’m not a super huge fan of the liners but I only need a heavy a few days a year (frantically knocking on wood!) so can’t justify a whole blanket for that.
Hi - kind of desperately looking for a 100g blanket suitable for a more upheaded pony. I’ve tried the more sport-horse or stock-horse oriented brands, and the shoulders and neck just don’t fit Lola (a Morgan who is 14 hands if she stretches really tall.) I have ordered a medium cutback from Schneiders for her, but they don’t have the cutbacks in a lighter fill.
OTOH, girlfriend is fat so she may just go nekkid in 100g type weather.
