I told Mr TWH I was going to order a tack locker. He said “oh I can build that”. I said I’ll give you 30 days otherwise I will order it. He built it. Perhaps Mr L could confer and take note?
Brilliant plan!
Add a roll of vetwrap, if they sell it. That’s what I do when I’m ridiculously close to free shipping but don’t need anything else.
This is my (mostly) blanket storage. This was when I was putting it in - it’s stuffed full now and not nearly as tidy.
I ordered up (the 70 since his usual 69 wasn’t available), and it still works. It’s roomy, but not excessively so, and I don’t think I’d have been happy with the 68.
Love it!
Thanks everyone. Of course the 64" is out of stock right now. More time to shop the site for that little extra thing to qualify for free shipping (Vetrap is a great idea!)
Then I ordered an Original w Leg Arches in burgundy and let me tell you all here right now Rambo is going down the tubes. I’ll post pictures. I got out an old green and silver Original and compared. The new one has straps much thinner with almost a sheerness to them. The hardware on the buckles is lesser quality, lighter and feels cheap. It’s noticeable they are cutting corners to make profit for their private equity group or whatever it is.
The thing I noticed about the newer Rambos is that the belly straps are longer when they’re cinched up to the tightest length. The one in question is the Rambo 100 gram Original with Leg Arches and I bought it on sale in the summer of 2023. My horse is a long-bodied 16.1h Thoroughbred who wears an 81" in every single Horseware brand, Wug or standard neck. I always tighten the belly straps to their tightest option. I have 20 years of Amigo, Rhino, and Rambo and this is the first time that the belly straps are too long on the shortest length.
@PaddockWood My leaky Amigo XL sheet appears to no longer leak after washing and proofing with the Nikwax products. I’m very pleased so far.
@Simkie your Busse blanket, does the neck cover attach as seen in this picture? With the connector strap running down the outside of the blanket to the top of the surcingle?
Oh that’s different, and just asking to get ripped off.
IKR. Like sometimes the product pictures are inaccurate but if that’s really the attachment method, I’m a lot less interested in the blanket.
PSA for those PITA hood attachments not lining up with other brands:
Because I save everything, I’ve learned that most of the elastic leg straps (the annoying ones that criss cross between horse legs that I always take off because I actually despise them) make great adapter/connectors in a mismatched hood to blanket. Take the strap and thread them through the O rings of the hood (if you don’t have O-rings or the elastics don’t fit, use bailing twine to make a breakaway o-ring). Thread up through all the rings, then clip on either side to the blanket.
I suppose that, or similar, would be a work around for the exterior straps on the Busse blanket in the picture above. That blanket is supposedly liner compatible so presumably there are some sort of attachment points in the neckline of the blanket itself.
I am not a “hood” person, but on the rare occasion I put one on someone, it usually isn’t the one that goes with the blanket. And I find as long as there is some sort of ring for a hood attachment on the blanket, I can make it work fine with baling twine.
And thank you for the Nikwax suggestion. I bought both products and washed and treated my Supreme and she’s waterproof again!!!
The hood attaches to the blanket with the same layered Velcro connectors as Rambo Supreme.
There are rings and included elastic straps to be used as shown in that pic, but I took the straps off and didn’t see any reason to use them.
There are also rings just inside the binding around the neck, for a liner, and those could be used to attach a different type of neck with twine, a la @Texarkana’s method.
Hm. This is actually good news for my wide bodied PRE. Granted, he could lose some belly, I’ll admit. He maxed out the straps on my Amigo Bravo.
I bought a new Rambo 100g and haven’t thoroughly checked it out yet. The new bags that they come in are interesting.
For those using Nikwax, I’ve always been satisfied with their products and only use Nikwax for washing my blankets. Whenever I wash one, I always reproof.
Nikwax works really well. Which reminds me; I ought to order some as I like to keep it on hand.
Maybe this is the reason the Schneiders blankets have worked for me…I just washed the not-so-waterproof sheet in Nikwax and it’s been waterproof ever since. And also durable, with excellent fit. The $25 I spent on the Nikwax was a cost effective solution for me
Oh! Can you share what you bought and how you washed it? trying to save my black/gold supreme forever!
