Favorite 100g Turnout Blanket - 2022 edition

I got two 50 grams in the green color and a 100 gram in the burgundy color. All in plus cuts for my boy and mom’s draft. I use the 50 gram a lot as a day sheet and am hoping the green won’t absorb as much heat from the sun.

I hate when blankets get wet like that. So annoying.

If the cut suits my boy I’ll likely get him a medium and some liners too. Maybe try a fly sheet. Though I’m not sure he’d approve of the fly sheets with pants :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Story of my life right now.

I’ve found that if I take blankets off while they are wet on the outside/dry on the inside and hang them up to dry, the lining ends up getting damp and staying damp, sometimes for days. However, if I leave the blanket on the horse, not only does the lining stay dry, but their body heat dries the outside of the blanket within hours.

So I’ve been trying to minimize blanket swapping in rain events as much as possible and leaving “wet” blankets on more than I would usually.

Meanwhile, my blankets from Hypostore have been sitting in customs since 22 Jan. Le sigh.

I’m normally ALL about this but pissing rain ahead of a temp drop has just been killing me this year. It’s just never been this wet/cold/weird :grimacing:

I’ve never felt the need to have a spot to hang blankets specifically to dry, but am really considering installing brackets at each stall now just for that. UGH.

It’s very wet here and a mix of snow and rain but not very cold (35 degrees.) I put rain sheets on last night as it was 50° then but the weather was coming in.

But seeing that it’s snowing now, I switched to the 100 gram. I have to say I don’t like the fit of the tough 100 gram like I have the other blankets. Something with the shoulder opening. It just seems like it runs a little smaller than the other ones of the same size! Weird! But it works for now.

We went from heavyweight with hood 3 weeks ago, to medium, to 100g to tomorrow I am putting sheets on as it seems spring is here. For now. One day this next week it’s supposed to be in the 50s. Go figure!

Yep it was in the '60s just the other day! Have to be ready for all kinds of weather here.

It’s been highs of 70 here but I expect it won’t last.

Mini update on the Busse blankets!

They arrived on schedule today. I haven’t inspected each piece yet, but cursory glance shows I received what I ordered.

I tried the burgundy Flexible Pro 100 in the 155 cm Plus size on my horse tonight. My horse wears an 84” in all other brands and according to the Busse size chart for the Plus sizes, this is the correct size for him. It’s a smidge skimpy in the length from wither to tail but the tail flap covers everything the blanket misses so it will do. The drop is not as generous as the PE or the Amigo XL, but doesn’t look like a mini skirt like some of his other blankets do. The shoulder area is very generous and would accommodate a horse with a very wide chest and bulky shoulders. The neck opening is generous as well and between the triple Velcro, T closure and double snaps I feel confident the chest closure is never coming undone without human hands.

Weirdly, it still puts pressure on my horse’s withers when he has his head down at ground level. I feel this blanket cut would suit a horse with lower withers than my own. I like the general feel of the blanket and it fits better than the 50 and 100 gram blankets I already own for this horse so overall I’m pleased. I won’t be buying more of them though.

I will grab some pictures in the daylight when I can!

Wow, your blanket has a triple closure at the chest?! Mine did not, despite that pic on their sales page. Other than the chest close up, nothing looks to have three layer closure from what I can see (which was a bit of a disappointment for me!)

Is this the one from Poland? No free returns then I’m assuming .

Yes. A triple Velcro closure, then a horizontal loop and Velcro closure and then the two snaps. It’s very secure.

Yup. Shipping was faster than SLT so there is that lol. It’s a nice blanket. I’m interested to see how the one I got for my mom’s draft fits.

Wild! I wonder why the blanket i have doesn’t have that?!

I haven’t checked the two 50 grams for it yet but will report back when I do.

The 100 gram is still on the horse and doesn’t appear to have shifted laterally. His old 100 WB blanket is bad about shifting side to side so I’m happy the Busse isn’t

Where did you order from? I can’t remember.

My blankets are still stuck in customs and I’m hoping that nothing is wrong.

Equusvitalis!

Though they dba EquiShop on my receipts and such

Alright, I contacted Busse about the different chest closures.

The three layer variety is newer. Two layer is older stock. The burgundy color is also a new color for this line, and will all have the three layer chest closure.

They replied very promptly!

I just ordered the Nikwax blanket re-proofer and washed the (freshly laundered sheet) with it.
It works great for prolonging the waterproof integrity of turnouts…

Nice! I still haven’t opened my two 50 grams in the green color, so I can’t advise which chest closure they have! The burgundy blanket was packaged differently than the green ones are.
