Yes, the same show venue became aware he was doing that and has now insisted that he show open.
I have extended a formal invitation to him twice to clinic, but he has no insurance and is therefore, as many have pointed out correctly, not a real trainer.
I think the best, and most likely, way forward for this man is to let him sell that sweet mare and fade away. He has no money and no prospects, and will likely retreat into another field like dog training or karate instructor, etc.
And, heâs only ever had one! And the host had to refund everyoneâs fees! He got paid, but everyone asked for their fees back, and she had to pay them out.
I havenât commented up to now. I have no problem with the thread as an alert to those newbies who might be taken in by (any) unqualified instructor. People do need to know.
I keep wanting to say to NP - but I wonât email him because, as everyone has noted, the last thing anyone would want was him having oneâs contact information - that while many, many, many years ago, I did run into some minor prejudice because I rode - and still ride - a horse(s) of a color breed, that I seriously doubt there are any of the âOld Guardâ who maintain prejudices of that kind. All the judges I have shown under in the last 20+ years have, as far as I can discern, scored me fairly and without references to my horseâs appearance - other than to saw heâs an attractive horse and/or a good mover! LOL I say this with regard to âChevyâs Cup.â Gee, if I werenât out here in Cali, I could have shown and probably won it!
As to the braid job, well, I canât see it that well in the pics, but assuming everyoneâs assessment is that itâs not a very good job is accurate, I do have to agree that while itâs nothing in the major scheme of things, it IS indicative of the obvious lack of attention to detail that NPâs whole showing/training âcareerâ evidences. Sigh.
That IS a nice mare (and I say that even though she DOESNâT have spots! LOL). The whole situation with that mare and her level of training shows reminds me very much of an acquaintance I had: She bred a not very good WB-cross mare to a stallion that had been a âchampion,â but she seemed to be the only one that was unaware of the fact that that particular stallion was regarded as a masterpiece of training, but as a breeding animal had sired very little of any accomplishment in the dressage world. The resulting colt had many of the conformational faults of his dam, but was a pretty good mover with a nice disposition. As a gelding, he would have made her a wonderful show horse. But NO, he was a stallion and she was going to go to the Olympics, and he would sire many champion babies, etc., etc., etc. She was truly delusional, but other than provoking annoyance among the rest of us with her constant delusional dreams, she harmed no one but herself, showed always as an amateur, and went on her merry way.
I do not for a minute think this man is anything but eminently sane. He knows exactly what he is doing. He is targeting a specific dressage clientele, and is going thru the various iterations of what they may pay for, (offering training, nope that didnât work, maybe Iâll try offering a horse trained up thru the levels for sale), until he finds one that will pay off.
As a former dressage mom with big ears and eyes and a lot of extra time at shows, I have seen one or two Nicks. Have heard some amazing things come out of their mouths, too, mostly at breakfast bars in various hotels. They tell their clients, women with plenty of disposable income, who have purchased one or possibly several 6 figure horses âsuitable for amateursâ, (usually against their trainerâs advice), have burned through the local trainers, through the clinicians that the local trainers bring in once a month, and even the once or twice a year BNT that the barn brings in, that they have a ânew systemâ and can get them ribbons.
Oftentimes this clientele are actually afraid of the horses they have purchased, who turn out to be suitable for SOME amateurs (working students come to mind). Enter the Nick type with some secret knowledge only he can impart. Everything their previous trainers has told them is wrong. Initially charming. Helps if they have a foreign accent. Also helps if they have long hair, maybe in a braid. Never actually ride the clientsâ horses, due to âold chronic injuryâ or âacute new injuryâ or even, âon a visitorâs visa, so can only advise, not ride.â Yes, I have actually heard that one.
âDangerous Charlatanâ best describes him. I think that being paid the usual trainerâs fees and expenses to attend shows, but never actually get up on a horse himself would suit him down to the ground.
As far as the showing as an AO goes, yes, you should show in your proper classification, although my daughter used to say she would rather show Open because the young kids nowadays are the best riders.
Absolutely. Someone may say âoh youâre not judged on your clothes, braiding, etcâ, but an unkempt looking rider and horse most certainly reflects on your horsemanship overall. But dont take my word for it, ask George Morris.
I know that I said I wouldnât comment here again but my friends keep alerting me to the lies said on this hate page.
First of all the clinic where people were refunded was the host fault not mine. She charged people an absurd amount of money and promised them something I could not do. I specifically said to only charge people about $40 and I would give them a 1/2hr private. This way I can work with more people, and if they were satisfied the first day they could always attend the second day for another half hour.
What the host did was charge people $200 for an hour private! I never agreed to these terms. I was never given my full fee either and barely had enough money to make it back home because she pled hardship. That same host has been evicted from several barns in her area and has a terrible reputation. I should have known better than to get involved.
Secondly, in the past I have offered to give a free clinic to anyone anywhere in the United States. I had two people take me up on the offer but neither one was willing to cover my travel expenses. For anyone saying that I declined is an absolute fallacy I never decline anyone but Iâm not a rich man and all I ask is that my travel expenses be covered.
Thereâs a few other issues stated on this hate page that are absolute lies, and some of it is just downright witch hunt.
[edit] I said that if you have questions to email me. Yes I will answer everyoneâs question. So you people who continue to talk about me as if Iâm in the room with you, is just bizarre.
The Chronicle of the Horse is nothing but a hate page filled with lies misinformation and one-sided conversation screenshots. Anyone wanting to know the truth about me or what I can do for them is encouraged to contact me. I will work with anyone anywhere in the United States.
Sir, you need better friends.
My friends would not want me to be upset that people are telling lies about me again and again so would not be telling me that someone posted again.
Whatâs your email address again?
One more thing I forgot to discuss. Dressage is a hobby. I have a real job. I donât need to give lessons or clinics. I do offer to do these things as part of the enjoyment of a hobby. If you donât want to work with me thatâs your prerogative, but it doesnât affect me at all financially. So you can stop spreading that lie also.
What barn owner would allow someone to teach on their property without insurance? That seems insane to me. Regardless of how good oneâs own property/business insurance is.
If you sign a release form most Farm owners donât have an issu, but if you donât want to have a trainer come in without insurance thatâs your prerogative. Years ago it didnât make a difference but we have become a society that is sue happy and over-sensitive about anything said. Things have changed for the worse not for the better.
I have amazing friends that alert me too hateful people such as yourself. Forget me needing new friends I think you need a new psychiatrist because you are clearly obsessed over nothing.
Yo NP,
Youâre avoiding all of the problems people pointed out on this thread by just making fun of everyone. You want people to stop talking about you, stop posting about COTH in your blog or just address some of the problems. Such easy solutions for you, you constantly aggravating the situation looks like you love drama. No problem with that it worked for Jerry Springerâs career.
That is just precious coming from you.
I know, right
Iâm going to agree on that one in theory. Anyone can learn to do good braids themselves - no need t hire a braider. Just like everyone can have shiny boots, a clean saddle pad and clean, well cared for, properly-fitting tack. None of that has to be a name brand or brand new or expensive. It speaks to respect for the sport and care of the horse.
My personal philosophy is âif I canât ride good at least I can look good.â
I will certainly notice someone with dirty or badly fitting tack and a sloppy braid job. However, I would not publicly comment on it or mention it to them.
Iâm still waiting for that huge show of compassion from The Chronicle and itâs moderators. This Thread is yet another example of how hateful and what a piece of garbage this website is.
