Totally right! I’m tuning in to this thread for these awesome tb pix. :applause:

just remember a flake is not a measurement. I’ve seen 2 pound flakes, and I’ve seen 10 pound flakes. Here in CA where we have 3 string bales, the average flake is 7 pounds, but I’ve seen wide varieties in size and weight. So the real question is how many pounds of forage is the horse getting. 1. 5 to 2% of body weight is baseline, which means around 15 to 20 pounds for an average 16 handish horse. Then adjust up or down from there. Bigger horses need more. Hard keepers and hard workers need more.

I know of plenty of nice barns feeding 3 flakes a day, and the flakes are light, so it is only about 10 pounds of hay. Especially if feeding orchard grass, meadow grass, or teff, those can be very light in weight. Timothy and alfalfa tend to be heavier, and grain hays tend to bale into larger flakes, so more weight. The pics of the mare in question don’t look horribly thin, she is just lacking muscle and fitness. Of course that is more based on training, although she may need a diet that supports muscle development, aka protein, fats, amino acids, carbohydrates, etc. if she is only ridden 20 minutes, then stands in a stall, she isn’t going to develop fitness. That may be enough for a training level horse, but not for a horse moving up the levels. Most FEI horses I know, are worked an hour to two hours most days. Sometimes that is not dressage work, but they need a high level of fitness to get through one of those tests! So does the rider!

I always looked at Zenyatta, even in racing shape, and thought, what a shoulder, what a horse! What a dressage horse OR jumper she would make.

One or two, maybe. But he has been through how many facilities? Either he’s making really poor choices or he’s making excuses.

My mare’s 5 year old year she suddenly started putting on muscle after being thin because she was growing like a weed. She was eating 75 lbs of bernuda hay plus 20 lbs of alfalfa at one point, with nothing wrong with her. Her body was changing rapidly and she was on free feed bermuda - with three horses we were going through 105 lbs bales daily, and the other two were fatties who split the other 30 lbs.

absolutely! A growing horse, lactating horse, hard working horse, horse with high metabolism all need way more food. The basic guideline is for an average pleasure horse! When I was breeding, I had some mares on 3 times their normal diet. An FEI horse is probably going to need a lot of extra calories too.

I saw the mare’s sale ad because I’m shopping for exactly that and I’m local. It mentioned an owner in the third person. The price recently dropped due to the owner needing to sell. FWIW.

I will not be inquiring on the horse due to my drama allergy.

Ooh which one? The stubben?

Ye gads. He’s still complaining that no one will pay his travel expenses to give a “free clinic” that he is obviously unqualified to teach.
I wonder if it ever occurs to him that having witnessed his behavior, on line and in person, few people would want him on their property let alone consider him qualified to teach anything related to training horses or riders in dressage? Guess not.

Great point. At the barn where I board we actually started weighing the hay before feeding after switching to large square bales. It’s too hard otherwise to feed consistently when not all staff member have the same idea of what’s appropriate.

My monster draft x gets 30lbs/day, divided into three feeds. I love my BO!

I’m sending this message and I’m going to call the office. This is your official notice to delete my name out of the topic thread or you will be facing a defamation lawsuit.

Who is he talking to here? The moderators? COTH’s editorial board or publishers? Us?

Nixk please read the comments in this thread that spell out the Terms of Service we all agreed to when joining this forum, namely that COTH is not responsible for the opinions expressed by members here.

Also suggest reading the threads carefully to see that opinions, advice, questions and even criticisms and critiques do not constitute cyber bullying or defamation. Really, truly hope you consider taking the money you would otherwise waste on a frivolous lawsuit and consider invest it in some lessons with a good trainer instead. You and Carpathia will both benefit and you can prove all your so-called “haters” wrong by doing better next time you enter a recognized show.

I guess my TB must have missed the memo about being thin…

Obviously NP is not familiar with major race stallions, who are anything but thin…

Here are a few pictures to refresh his memory

Ummm… lies? Really? Your own words and your own actions are “lies”? This thread started in response to a blog where you declared that dressage judges were corrupt and had been influenced to give you low scores - when you “knew” you deserved much higher marks … YOUR words - are they lies?

Nick, you pretend to be well versed in legalese and yet you still do not even know the definition of “slander”… look it up, as many of us have suggested. Here, I will help you out - slander is the spoken word. 99.9 % of us have never said a single spoken word about you. To anyone. About anything.

Read the Terms of Service that apply to the forum - the same ones you agreed to when you started this newest account of yours. You agreed that COTH (the publication you insist on trashing and condemning when you would love to be featured in an article) is not responsible for what members of the forum post.

One other thing to consider - once you have put something out on the internet, it is still there even if you think you have erased or deleted it. So all your endless cyberbullying, tirades and tantrums can be dredged up as examples of what you pretend to be against so vehemently…

Your name was not even in the thread title until about the time you jumped in here and started lighting fires and fishing for email addresses… your initials were not even in the topic title. Nothing. Zip. Zero.

I wouldn’t sell a horse to someone who gets their information off of a hate page like COTH.
