Favorites from the 60's and 70's!!

Melanie had Val de Loire, and before him, Radnor II. She also had an AWESOME speed horse named Vivaldi. Any of those names what you are looking for??

Vivaldi that was it. That horse was so fast. She would blaze around the Open Speed classes.

No one could touch him! And he was the sweetest stallion I have ever met. We called him "ViVA!!! (accent on the “VA”)

My favorites:

Bill Steinkraus, the best rider ever! Ben O’Meara, great trainer and rider; Frank Chapot, Mary Mairs Chapot.

Victor Hugo Vidal, a riding instructor with class and breeding. My own instructor Capt. VS Littaur. Can’t forget to mention Bernie Traurig who also rode with Littaur.

Rodney Jenkins, what extraodinary natural talent…yes wasted at the track!

Horses, Sinjon, Jacks or Better; Untouchable; Abberalle; hunters, Quiet Please; and Every horse that Dave Kelley ever rode!

And my own wonderful Fighting Chance who helped me win the Maclay under Steven Hawkins at the "A rated " Stony Brook Horse Show. He put in a great round at MSG only to break his leg 2 months later, running free in his paddock.

Wonderful people from Long Island: Mrs. John Tupper Cole; Althea Knickerbocker; and Ralph Peterson. Also my friend Joan Krogman, at Little Plains Stable! Milton Potter, probably one of the few “honest” horse dealers!

OMG…my parents used to get resale horses from Milton.

SportHorseFilly - How lucky you were to ride with Littaur!! I knew of all the others you mentioned except Milton…but I wish I had known him!
There was a story going around about Ben O’Meara getting in trouble for smuggling drugs! Did you ever hear that one? I think it’s okay to discuss it…? He was an incredible horseman anyway.

SportHorseFilly - I’m jealous - you got to ride with Littauer!! We teach his system here and it’s the greatest for keeping my horses sane and sound.

OMG!
Potter would drive to KS with an empty semi, picking up horses. We sent more than a couple and my Mom sent one she had raised from a foal because she needed to sell him but couldn’t stand to see him in the area.

I often wondered what happened to him

Most were great with hearts of gold, some were horrid!

Yes! I had forgotten Herman, Missy, Kitty… And remember Midget? My mom still has a picture of my sister on him at a lesson show.

Fortune was NOT one of my favorites - he dragged me down the aisle one time when I was tacking up - I tripped and fell and he stepped on my elbow! I think he was in the barn after you left…

Lessonlady, I sent you a PM

Summer Poise…akaSummie…eq horse from Rock Meadow in Byfield MA…loved that horse…

Showjump, remember SuperFlash, Julie Kardon’s lovely stallion. Loved that horse. He always appeared such a gentleman. Wasn’t Balailika the horse that slipped with Joey at Lake Placid? It had been raining, horse went down, Joey stepped off and left the ring. Leaving the crew with the horse. Old brains, need joggling sometimes.

Hot Shot Kidd, Terry Rudd’s pony
Apache Kid also Terry’s
Good Boy Dee Missy C?
Cold Climate Mrs Ruckers conform horse
Cap and Gown The Cunningham’s lovely horse

LH, remember the outside course at Devon? Lots of fun and it wound around and back into the Wanamaker Oval. Solid fences too.

I remember all of those except Balailika. Good Boy Dee was Kip Rosenthal’s junior hunter, then he went to Gail Hulick and Samuel Magid, co-owners although it was Gail who showed him including the junior hunter championship at MSG one year.

Was Superflash Mrs. Johnson’s horse?(the Mrs. Johnson from Trader’s Point, not Sheila) Gorgeous chestnut with 4 white sox that Charlie Weaver rode and she did the A/Os on? If that wasn’t Superflash, does anyone remember that one’s name?

Super Flash was dark brown with four whites. Little guy! Her amateur horse, Fun and Games, was chestnut with a lot of white.

Was the working hunter, Auspicious, from the 70s or the 80s? I’m confusing myself now. Also, what about Fleet Apple? I’m thinking late 70s, but I could be wrong again.

Auspicious was from the early 80s. The Auspicious/Master Dan trade occured in 1985, I think. I’m pretty sure Fleet Apple was 70s.
