Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks

Woo hoo! I love reading this and hearing about all the new homes for these fine beasties

Apparantly I have a thing for big chestnuts. Now I’m drooling over March West-tall, handsome, and intelligent-my kind of guy! Sadly, until grad school is over I am in no position to do anything but admire from afar, but if anyone needs an enabler I’m your girl!

Me Me Anna

holy crap. I used to work at the farm where her sire stood in Amenia NY, back in the early '90s. He was a REALLY nice horse, excellent temperament and personality, just really nice to be around. From what I could see, he DID pass that on to his foals- someone go get her please!

(I’m halfway across the country and absolutely cannot have another horse or I would be on the phone right now).

I got tired waiting to hear from Louise so…

I called the # listed on his sheet.

So far I’ve talked to the groom/Missy about him and she doesn’t know the asking price. I told her the horse would have a forever home here and not be ridden, just spoiled to the enth degree and that I’m 15 minutes from the track so they could come see the farm and my other horses. I did tell her I really could only afford to go $500 for him because of all the additional expense I’d have with hay and bedding etc.

Missy did say that the leg where he had a scrape had turned to celulitis but that it’s healing and he’s off antibiotics.

She’s currently in Philly and would get back to me in another day or so after she’s talked to the trainer so I guess a bit of waiting is in store till I hear anything.

ooooh I really like The Rock Can Roll. $300 are you kidding me? If he doesn’t go fast, my head is going to spin…
Boy, my head will spin too. What a good looking dude! And that Rock and Roll Roan. He is stunning.

LOL, msj. You have many outstanding virtues, but I know that patience isn’t one of them.

I’m glad that you did call, because the very nice young lady that I took around this morning decided against KP. She will be bringing home one of Finger Lakes Finest, however. It was between two when I left, and I’m sure we’ll find out soon who the lucky horse is.

We both, however, thought that KP was one of the sweetest, kindest horses that we saw today. What a true gentleman this horse is. I sincerely hope that the trainer decides to take msj up on her offer, because this is a horse who really deserves the loving care that msj gives all of her horses.

Louise, come on now! Look how long I’ve waited already before calling. I went back thru the posts and foundationmare brought up the info on KP initially on the 24th and that he was destined for Puerto Rico on the 26th. And today’s the 28th. That’s an incredibly LONG wait for me.

Power of Music and Man of Motion

They are on their way to KY! picked up this morning and I will be sure to post pictures tomorrow!

Great news! Congratulations and I’ll certainly look forward to seeing pictures. I fell in love with the pictures of Man of Motion last year and did not dare go see him. He just exuded class.

I don’t remember Power of Music but he’s got to be a hunk as well considering your taste with MofM.

Best of luck with both boys and do keep us informed on their progress.

I took all of Louise’s time up this AM walking around the backstretch (she is most likely recovering from listening to me babble on…)

I saw KP, he was not on my list of horses to look at, but out of respect to him and all the people here, I went. The asking price is $1000. he does have a case of cellulitis on that left hind, and some pretty new proud flesh. I pointed that out and the girl who walked him out for me said the vet was supposed to drop somehting off for it today…

I didn’t see him trot- the leg was very stocked up, so it was pointless really. He had nice tight legs besides that! Really great horse, he just oozes kindness. One of the nicest eyes I have seen on a horse in a long time, a really good, honest guy. Very patient with all the other horses acting up on the walkers and the wind blowing up his pants! His nickname at that barn is “Cookie” by the way… I know someone wondered if they still called him “Pete”…

I saw a bunch of really nice horses… Dan and John, Jo Cosmo, the bay Rock and Roll horse (cannot remember his name right now… the new listing), Word Spinner… I can expound more once I get back to my desk and stop typing here in the truck… we are on our way home now with Northern Blue (he will be my new, well additional, event horse). A lot of really nice horses, I wish I had more stall space. If everyone wants more info on those horses let me know!

Congratulations on Northern Blue. I hope to see you bring him back here and event at Stuart HT, GVRDC and GVH HT in the next year or so. I end up cheering for most of the horses there anyway.

Dan and John is the cutest little guy and if I had the $ I’d be 1/2 tempted to buy him and send him to my trainer, Carol Kozlowski, to see if he reminds her of my little Chocolate horse that I sent her quite a few yrs ago. Chocolate had a great sense of humor that wasn’t always appreciated!

Thanks for the info on KP. And thanks for taking a look at him. I can only hope that they will consider coming down significantly in price. I simply cannot afford $1000 for a pasture ornament. :frowning: :frowning:

Even with the wonderful people here on the board that have offered financial help, I don’t see any hope of getting that much together. :frowning:

I just have to hope the trainer was blowing steam when he said he’d send him to PR.

Congratulations Stoneleigh Farm…Northern Blue is just gorgeous!! I love his face!

msj-I am keeping my fingers crossed that Pete (or Cookie) ends up with you. Hopefully his owner will rather see him retire safely than get an extra $500 for him.

KP sounds like quite the gentleman. msj I’m crossing fingers for you and him… With the cellulitis seems a $1-$500 pricetag is more than fair as its gonna require some time and vet attention for sure.

Stoneleigh congrats on the new addition. It has been nice to see so many FL horses go home with COTHers lately.

Yay!! Can’t wait to hear how they are! I drooled over Power of Music all year. She’s BEAUTIFUL

Flash, these are my thoughts as well. I sure don’t need additional bills right now anyway. :sigh:
msj-I am keeping my fingers crossed that Pete (or Cookie) ends up with you. We can only hope. When I talked to Missy, she would gladly have given him to me but she’s not the owner either.

At this point I’m going to imagine the glass half empty rather than full and, if I get a surprise, that will be great.

Funny how I was trying to sort out just how I was going to juggle the new guy with turnout at night because my boys don’t get shut in unless it’s really storming, but I do give my 2 their own paddock at night so my old guy (27 yr QH) doesn’t get bugged by my 17 yr OTTB and I only have the 2 sacrifice paddocks. During the day it wouldn’t be hard as I’d give Cookie his own paddock until he got comfortable with my two and then gradually introduce him to my boys one at a time.

Well, I’m going to look at this the same way I did when I was looking for farm property. If it’s meant to be it will be. If it’s not, then it won’t.

Thanks msj and caryledee! Blue is snug in his stall after a nice hot bran mash… long 5 hr ride home, but he trailered like a champ. He seems like a really nice guy- I can’t wait to get to know him and make him part of the family!

msj- I hope KP’s owner is willing to let him go to you. He is a horse with a lot of soul.

Wonderful. I’m glad the weather held for you. Best wishes with Blue and I expect to see you at some of our events in the near future!

Rocky and Western Buff are being picked up on Monday - hopefully here by Thursday or Friday!!
I asked Pat what Western Buff’s stable name is and he said “filly” so she needs a NAME!!

What do you all think about Minx?

“Minx” reminds me of Black Minx from “The Black Stallion’s Filly”! (I loved that book.)

Did Louie guarantee Monday? When I talked to him he wasn’t sure which day it was going to be.

They’re here!

Power of Music and Man of Motion are both tucked into their stalls for the night. I’m thrilled with both of them!

Congratulations to all of you on your new Finests!

msj… I went through the same “agony” when waiting for Number to retire. I said the same thing as what will be will be and it all worked out!

Nums wasn’t even on the listings and his trainer phoned me minutes after the last race on the last day of last year’s season and said, “he’s ready to retire now”. I just about fell off my chair!

Here’s hoping those of you wishing for a Finger Lakes Finest will see that dream come true!
