Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks
I will ditto everything Louise said and ask how Power of Music liked the beef cattle?

:)
thank you!

She liked the neighbor’s pig even better than the cattle - they are actually on the farm across the street-- the pig travels back and forth between my farm and theirs and loves to hang out while the horses eat in the evenings. But the funniest thing by far is that she (pig) is very attached to Tribolet, even to the point of jogging after us while I ride him in the field!

I love Carr Ride

But why do the Quiet ones always have to be so stinking BIG!! I’m short, I need a short trail horse, ARRRGGHHHH!

  That’s really cute and I can just picture it.

Lawndart, did you check out Ernie Applesauce - he’s only 15 hands and is quite a substantial guy and as cute as a button. You can’t beat the price either.

I’m sure you need to come up and look at him. You have an open invitation to stay at my farm if you do as I’m only 15 minutes from the track. Now, you can’t get a better offer than that!

Besides I have tons of pictures of both Chocolate and T-Bay, both whom you have heard about in the past on JB’s board.

This is such a great thread - it’s the first one I open when I ‘lurk’ throughout the day  I’m so happy for the ‘finest’ that are finding well deserved homes. I wish the same for so many more.

Okay, so I’ve been doing some window shopping, seeing as I want another horse for when my mare moves home…and seeing that there are some great deals at finger lakes, maybe it’s time to make a move.

So, any advice about the process. Is it possible to go and see these horses in person? Are they scattered around at different farms, so a few different visits in one day, with a shortlist from the website?

Then for vetting, sounds silly I know, but are these trainers going to get frustrated about practically giving away a horse, that I would then want vetted?

Sorry for sounding like an ignoramus, but it’s imperative that I find a sound horse. ie no chips, spurs, tendon issues…

I know these trainers work hard, so hope you can help me not waste their time.

Lawndart, you might also want to call about Take me Flying

I liked his attitude yesterday. It was a miserable day, windy and cold, and he was just fine, standing around having his picture taken.

How about Star’s Valentine?

Right now, most of these horses are still on the track. But, they’ll be dispersing to other tracks, or to the home farms very quickly.

There are a few trainers who may be puzzled as to why you want to vet a cheap horse, but they’ll figure that it’s your dollar, and you can spend it however you want.

One of our volunteers will, if possible, be glad to escort you around the track. Since it is so close to the end of the season, I would call the trainers, and make appointments to see the horses. Saturdays are best for the volunteers, as we work, but I could possibly find someone to escort you on a weekday.

PM me for the numbers of the track vets. They’re very good, and quite inexpensive.

Hey Cagey22: we’re almost neighbors - I’m just over in Galway  And I’ve been window shopping too! So many to choose from :frowning:

ManInMotion pics! and some more of Music… and the pig!
I’m thrilled to hear that. I’m with caryledee in that we want pictures. Remember, I fell in love with Man of Motion last year so I’m super thrilled he found a good home. :)
One who nobody has mentioned is Skee Love. She might not be for you, Lawndart, but she is a lovely creature, who deserves a good home. Cagey22, she might be one to consider, since you have a mare and, probably, want another to keep her company.

Man of Motion has such a wonderful, wise eye. Likes the girls, does he?

And, what can you say about Bacon. What a beautiful girl, and so clean!

They are both just lovely!

It’s cool that they are so accepting of the cows and pig…mine here a “moo” and they are outta here!

I love this guy:

I am very glad he is under my height limit.

He is quite attached to ‘his’ girl, Music, that’s for sure!! Guarded her from everyone else today.

Yes, Bacon loves to nap in the manure pile. I have to say she’s growing on me. I may need to buy her from the neighbors since they want to eat her!

Has anyone taken Dan and John yet? I love him… but board and can’t take another horse… sigh.

Crazy Gray Horse: Wanna take a road trip?

Nice to hear there’s someone nearby, we just moved here. I’ll be in touch by PM to introduce myself.

And Thanks everyone else for your help so far. My short list so far has 17. Hmmm, I think I’d better narrow down a bit…

Tall? Carr Ride is 15.3! That’s the top of my height range, but my brother looked at all my short list and said “Nice, but they’re all kind of short.”

Enablers!!

 Louise and MSJ, I am very tempted. I’m going to sleep on it tonight, and try to get it past the DH. I keep telling him its time to help another horse. He keeps saying its time to help our retirement fund  Silly Man.

MSJ, I would love to see photos of the incomparable Chocolate, and T-Bay. I might take you up on the offer of a bed

Danceronice-obviously your brother is taller than my 5’2" I actually prefer horses UNDER 15H, but a lot of them have very short strides. I need a short, sane, good walking gelding. I already have a short, sane good walking mare.
