Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks

danceronice, I haven’t heard anything since I talked to Missy about Patriot on Saturday. She was in Philadelphia and said she’d call me back in a couple of days. I’m guessing she went home for the holiday and getting back either yesterday or today. If I don’t hear anything by this evening, I’ll give her another call but my guess is if she doesn’t call back it’s because the trainer considers the offer not worth replying (which I consider extremely RUDE). I know they are busy over there and am really hoping to hear today.

Yes, I’m on pins and needles. One part of me hoping he will take my offer (for the horses sake) and the other part of me hoping he’s just mouthing off about sending the horse to Puerto Rico in hopes that someone would take him. I’ve pretty much figured out how I could work him into my place as Missy did say he did enjoy his turnout. He’d just have about a week in the paddock next to my boys and then I’d turn the 27 yr QH out with him first and a couple of days later my OTTB. I suspect I have enough turnouts that will fit him if he does come and if he’s a bit bigger than my 78 inch ones then Louise has offered several 81" Rambo’s that she had for her horses. Bless you Louise.

Personally, I feel the offer of $500 is a damn good one considering that leg scrape developed into cellulitis and proud flesh. I spoke to my vet’s this AM about the cellulitis and proud flesh as I’ve been very lucky for the past 47 yrs in never having to deal with either. Vet did say that the cellulitis can become chronic and, worst case scenerio, euthanasia. :frowning:

So it’s a wait and see for a few more hours anyway.

Believe me, as soon as I hear anything, I will post.

I am attempting to contact the breeder of KP, just need a phone # and/or e-mail contact for him. I’ve also sent an e-mail to The Blood Horse, asking them to forward it to him because he is a periodic contributor to the magazine.

I put a spit polish on The Rock Can Roll this a.m., well actually his trainer did just before I walked him around the shedrow. Trainer said “Let’s make sure he looks really nice in case someone comes to look at him”…awww. He’s got a beautiful, shiny coat and an endearing face. Just love him.

Chequer Cat is just as gorgeous, quiet and well-behaved. And Beau’s Tune falls asleep against my chest when I give her scritches. These are sound, gorgeous animals.

If you’re looking for super quiet, look no further than Carr Ride, Unlimited Warranty and Maria’s Treasure, just to name a few. Doesn’t hurt that they’re also pretty, now does it?

I agree with you completely. I’ve seen chronic cellulitis in quite a few older horses, particularly TBs for some reason. While it is manageable, I’ve found best to blast it with IV antibiotics and lots of hosing, walking, and wrapping. Said and done it can be at least a couple hundred bucks.

Frankly, as horrible as this sounds, IMO (not that it means anything) the horse is worth $0 right now given the cellulitis and the proud flesh. He can’t run on it and I’d bet he’s not sound on it, and he’s gonna need continued care till its gone and monitoring that it does not return.

The owner should be happy to get $500 bucks for him…

So… I’m hoping the universe cuts KP a huge break and sends him home with msj…

Flash, I hate the say it too that he’s not worth much more than my original suggestion of $1.00, BUT I will honor my original offer of $500.00. Worst case scenerio is the trainer lets me have him for that and I bring him home to bury him. I think it was caryledee way back a few pages ago that said she’d rather see him euthanized than go to Puerto Rico. I still haven’t heard word one from Missy or the trainer. Guess it’s time to call. :sigh:

What a great trainer!! The Rock can Roll is one of my favorites - makes me want to hook up my trailer and drive right up to FL

The owner will NOT come down in price for Karakorum Patriot. :frowning: :frowning: So… danceronice or foundationmare, any luck with the Karakorum Racing or the breeder placing this horse?

msj… stinks to hear they won’t budge on a price… but you can only do so much! Thanks for trying to get KP.

If I was in a position to take on a horse right now, there are so many on there I’d love to have! But it is not meant to be. Not yet. Once my little girl gets ready to ride, maybe then I’ll be able to own a horse again

What is his price?

I have to tell you…even being a vet tech, the worst wound/scrape that I have ever seen was one that happened at my own farm. Boarder’s mare kicked her way through a wall overnight and I found her - still hanging - the next morning. Initially, it looked like a horrible scrape, but within days it became obvious that all of the flesh over the cannon, had lost circulation and died and sloughed off. All told, eventually 7 inches of cannon was exposed. We did wet to dry bandages and cleanings for months…MONTHS. Ironically, this mare let us do everything unsedated and untied. She healed with a very ugly scar, and we battled proud flesh/cellulitis, but there are some VERY very good NUSKIN products on the market that made life LOTS easier and we couldn’t have done it without the Zinc spray either.

Best of luck, I just have the feeling that you’ll end up with him anyway.

I’m sorry msj - you’ve tried and done your best. We’ll cross our finger and perhaps there will still be a good outcome for KP.

UGH now that is just silly. :frowning:

I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed that something, somehow works out for this horse.

And once again, msj, your generosity is truly amazing.

FYI: anyone who’s interested…
Just spoke to the owner of Outskip, he sounds like a good guy - “farriery is his bread and butter.”

He wants his horse to go to a good home and to be enjoyed. Outskip had a broken tibia as a 3 yr old and came back to win 3 races. He’s not sure if he’s going to sell her, it depends on if she wins on Thursday or not. If she wins, she’s for sale, if not, he’ll race her into the spring and summer. Said it was to do with politics of keeping stalls at the track.

He also has an 11 year old that he said would be great for a child/teenager. It jumps and is really steady and easy to transport, if anyone’s interested. He said she’s just going to waste, so give him a call if you’re interested. His number is listed on Outskip’s advert.

The trainer wants $1000.00 and I can’t see paying that much for another pasture ornament. :frowning: I no longer ride but he would have had a forever home. :frowning:

You know the funny thing is that I really didn’t want another horse in the first place but I felt so sad when foundationmare said the trainer would send him to Puerto Rico that I had to give it a try.

Kentucky TBs, Flash Gordon, and crazy gray horse, thanks for the kind words. You’re right that only so much can be done. I know we can’t save them all.

I just hope that his breeder or Karakorum Racing step in and take him.

And Salty Karakorum has been gone for a few months now too.

My personal favorites (all boys)
The Rock Can Roll
Word Spinner
Love That Wicked
Wing

Also really like
Coach Moto
Outtabeajet
Cope With Three
Key Union
Call To Duty

I am green with envy that people are taking these lovely horses home! Sure wish The Rock Can Roll was headed to GA …SIGH.

Oooh I love Wing…

I have never asked Karakorum Racing for money for him (but if someone would like to put together a formal pitch I’d be glad to pass it along.) But I can say from the last e-mail and degree of interest they will not be thrilled to hear the trainer’s not flexible on the price. Their rep is very firmly of the opinion that the horse has no value as a racehorse, should not keep racing, and is not worth $1000.

Because of the way the company is set up, I don’t think they could physically take him, but if we got a fund together they might, MIGHT be able to donate something to get him or move him if we presented the request in the right way. (I don’t know enough about their corporate structure, as they’re a buy-in syndicate of owners, to know if they’re able to do something like that.) I’m uneasy about asking for it because I don’t want to sound like I’m trying to guilt-trip them. It’s not THEIR fault the horse is where he is.

The trainer told me The Rock Can Roll left today.

I’ve been looking at Court Appointment for weeks, can’t someone just tell me he has a good home now? He is perfect, and now that he’s free to a good home I’m so torn.

Someone take him home!

May the powers that be help me…oh my, but I have decided I can SQUEEZE in one more…my daughter has offered to move her pony from the indoor where we have my OTTB and her pony, back home. Winter is coming and this new horse will need a nice warm stall. Wish me luck, I am calling on Unlimited Warranty right now. If any of you have a serious eye on her, I will not pursue the issue…

oh my, I must be nuts, but whatevs, it makes me happy, so why not!?
