Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks

The owner/trainer still owns her. She and I are friends. She sent Daisy here to a farm where another friend (the one who worked with Salty and Patriot) is going to work with her on “riding horse lessons.” The possibility exists that she may go back to the track in spring, but more likely the owner will try to sell her to a non race home. I’ve seen her since her arrival and she’s doing well. Owner/trainer gets almost daily updates as she and the girl working with Daisy are very good friends. She’s in a good place and by no means at risk.

The owner will NOT come down in price for Karakorum Patriot. :frowning: :frowning: So… danceronice or foundationmare, any luck with the Karakorum Racing or the breeder placing this horse?[/QUOTE]

What a shame, however I am in for a donation to help come up with the other $500.00.
If a group of us pitch in with 50.00 ea, then he can go to a new home with msj…what do you all think??

Just listed three more free horses. They are all lovely animals, but I want to point out one in particular.

Midnight Secret is one of those wonderful older war horses. He is 12 years young, he has started 110 times, and the track vet says that he is sound.

This one is every bit as deserving of a good home as a younger horse, maybe more so.

Nice choices! If you want to PM me I can give you the name of the shipper I used to KY. She was reasonable and easy to work with.

I love that new guy just listed…he has a cute tongue, too:lol::lol: msj, if KP doesn’t work out…maybe this dude will???

Anyone know any info on Unlimited Warranty, or Me Me Anna?

I am so sorry msj…I am with everyone else; $500 is more than fair in this economy and with the horse’s current problem. You are a very kind and generous person for offering to help this deserving soul out!

Has anyone thought about approaching Karakorum Racing and asking (tactfully) if they would be able to come up with the funds for him and then letting him live out his days with msj? Assuming that would be okay with msj, of course. It sounds like they made a fair amount of money off the horse; maybe they would want to do the right thing. And it would be good PR too!

up-at-5: I called on Unlimited warranty earlier and left a message but haven’t heard back yet. If I get a return call I’ll let you know. I like her and it sounds like she has a great attitude.

caryledee, see my post…if someone would like to make a formal pitch to Karakorum, I’m communicating with them and would be glad to pass it along. They’re not thrilled, but I’ve been reluctant to ask for funds because I don’t want to seem like I’m guilt-tripping. I don’t know their corporate structure so I don’t know that it’s something they can do at all.

I really do appreciate everyone’s offers but to be very honest, I couldn’t accept anything from fellow COTHer’s that have enough 4-legged mouths to feed and probably several 2-legged ones as well. You are very, very kind and thoughtful but I can’t do it.

danceronice, I know you posted that while Karakorum Racing was concerned, I also share you comments that it isn’t their fault at all that the horse is where he is and they shouldn’t be ‘guilted’ into offering help. The same goes for the breeder.

But I will say that considering I didn’t want another horse in the first place for several reasons and I’ve talked to Louise about it on Saturday, the least being financial, and haven’t even seen this horse except the 2 pictures on the Trainer’s Listing, I can’t believe the tears I’m shedding and their not for me but him.

I know with today’s economy a lot of horses have been abandoned, and in South Florida there has been a number of horses stolen from their pastures and slaughtered for their meat, so maybe the trainer won’t be able to find someone to buy this guy. I can only hope if he does someone down there will be able to give him a decent life after racing.

Again, thank you very much for your kind offers but, I don’t think enough could be raised for him. $500 is a big chunk of money.

I sent this to several people who I’ve been PMing with and really feel I should post it here.

Honest, I really, really do appreciate the offers but I cannot accept anything.

Now, put your dollars into your own critters and buy them a Christmas gift.

And let’s get some more deserving horses into homes as well.

Excellent…keep me posted. I assume you called because you are interested, so no worries, you’ve got dibs;)

I also like somewhereinbetween…always wanted a liver in my barn:)

I just heard from the groom that Court is gone to a new home, I think Limit might be gone too, but she did say that Carr Ride was still available and that hes very quiet and sweet! “like a puppy dog” is how she described him!

The problem is, he MAY be worth $1000 as a race horse in PR. Who knows what kind of drugs they allow, and if a horse even has to be sound to run. I am sorry if I am offending anyone with these statements, but I am aware of the way that culture (in general) takes care of its animals.

Karakorum Racing made money off this horse; shouldn’t they harbor part of the responsibility for his life? If it was me, I would not want my corporation name on a horse being sent to PR…that could become a media issue. They may not care though.

msj-by offering this horse a home, you are playing the biggest role in helping him! So many of us would like to be a part of this generosity you are exhibiting, and the only way we can do this is contributing what we can. No, we cannot save them all but what if this is one we CAN save?

Sorry if this is rambling or worse; I had outpatient surgery today. I’m fine, but many drugs are still running through me!

You should really give Somewhereinbetween a second or third look! I saw her on my visit and she is cute as a button!

If it were me, I would reply to that email with the truth. The trainer won’t come down on price and we all feel terrible for the horse. It is not guilt tripping them to tell them the truth!

And msj, people who want to help by chipping in really want to help the horse. It would be great if you could look after him, but I think they want the horse to be safe (which in my book is different than getting you another horse). I am not sure if I am explaining it clearly though.

up-at-5 —yes, yes…Somewhereinbetween…pretty please??? I LOFF her!

The Rock Can Roll- I’m so glad he went home with someone today!

Up-at-5 - you and I have the same taste  I called on Somewhereinbetween last week. Trainer wanted to run her again this week and said he’d get back to me. If I do hear back from him, I’ll let you know.

The other horse I liked but haven’t called on is Spec House

MSJ, I can’t speak for the others, but when I offer money to someone to help an animal in need, it makes me happy, makes me fell less helpless. I am not rich, I work fulltime as well as a part time job to pay for my horses, so when I offer money, it comes from the heart, and I feel good being able to do something. I hate being asked for money, but I love offering it;) You were doing your part by attempting to help KP, and I wanted to do my part, too, even if it means just sending a check.
We all have to rally together to help the horses get re-homed!!!

On a side note, I will go have another look at somewhere:yes:

CGH, too funny!!!.. I LOVE the mares!
Keep me posted if you hear anything.

Enjoy those drugs and make sure you keep yourself full of painkillers for a while too!

OK, if enough $ can be raised, I would accept it, but I don’t know how long that horse will be in the area. I think the trainer has a farm in the area based on what the groom, Missy, said but that doesn’t mean he’d send the horse there.

I know that a several people have offered what amounts to ~$200 so far. That still leaves $300 and it’s still a sizable amount to raise. While I doubt the trainer has a lot of people beating down the door for Patriot, heaven only knows how long this horse will be at the track. The season closes in 5 days and the trainers have 10 days to get the horses out. At least I think that’s what I’ve seen posted by Louise or maunder or foundationmare.

Foundationmare gave me the name of the breeder but I’ve got to confirm that. I did google it and there is someone by that name that is a lawyer. But then even if did contact him or even Karakorum Racing, how do they know we aren’t trying to scam them? I know if it were me, I’d be pretty suspicious.

I’ve got the tractor people coming over tomorrow AM to pull my bucket and put the snow blower on but I’ve got some time in the afternoon that I could try emailing or somehow contacting these people and just letting them know there is a fund started to save this horse. I will refer them to this website and topic so they don’t think I’m trying to scam them. I’ll also call Missy and tell her we are trying to raise enough $ for the horse and that I’d like to make an appointment to see him. God, I’d hate it if I didn’t think I could handle him! Fortunately everyone that has seen him has said he was a gentleman. I hope so.

I think there are few people here on the board, Louise, at the very least, that could vouch for me and my farm and my care as well as my veterinary practice.

So I’ll give it a try. The only thing to lose is the horse.

Darnit!! I was getting close to being able to get him.
