This is always an anxious time of year for me. So many of these horses I “know” in some way or another and I wonder what their fates are once they’ve left the track. In years past, they would fly off the track as soon as they were available, that’s how desirable they are. Needless to say, times have changed and gorgeous, sound, young TBs are hard-pressed to find homes off the track.
I agree that every one of these animals is deserving and the trainers who are more concerned about the welfare of the animals rather than the welfare of their wallets should be worked with. KP, Me Me Anna, and Midnight Secret (be still my heart…) especially pull at my heartstrings because they have done everything that’s been asked of them for many, many years and have the earnings to prove it.
I believe that Me Me Anna may have a new home in Louisiana: I’m waiting to hear on a price for shipping before her prospective new owner gives the green light.
I have heard from the breeder of KP, a very, very nice man who is unable to make room for him on “an already overcrowded farm”, but he is willing to contribute to his purchase price if need be.
To poster her mentioned Silent Reflection, I can attest that she’s a sweet filly, very pretty and still growing! Her trainer is easy to work with and I’m sure wants to find her a great home. She just doesn’t want to be a race horse.
