Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks

Louise, I have that same thought, that we ought to focus on helping trainers who work with you guys, not those who blackmail with the saddest story.

If someone will step up for Midnight Secret or another of the free horses, I will contribute to any shipping costs.

Midnight Secret is a very handsome boy. Someone has to take him.

We have someone working on the breeder angle, and on the Karakorum Syndicate angle. That might be the area to focus on, with KP. Even if the Karakorum Syndicate were to get in touch with this trainer and let him know that they are watching what happens with this horse, it might help. And, who know what he would say if the breeder were to indicate that he wanted him back.

I honestly don’t know if the Puerto Rico thing is a threat, or a promise, or, a rumor, as I haven’t heard it directly from the trainer.

That’s very kind of you FD…

It’s such a hard time of year because to me all of the Finger Lakes horses are deserving. Each and every one of them.

And…it’s very hard to see the hard working owner/trainers hunt desperately for a good home for their horses. Some of the smallest owner/trainers don’t have home farms so they are especially vulnerable to the end of the season.

These are the folks with the least amount of money - and these are the folks you will see GIVING their horses to good homes instead of holding out for big money.

I’m hoping that Karakorum Racing is in fact able to pull some strings. (And I do plan to let them know that if and when I decide to get into racing ownership, if I go the syndicate route, their response here has strongly inclined me in their direction.)

And will someone PLEASE take Carr Ride so I can stop feeling guilty? I will happily redirect my donation if some other provision is made for Karakorum Patriot.

I’m still waiting to hear from the shipper who was supposed to pick up Lucky to Cope, Rockywithattitude, and Western Buff today…trainers haven’t heard anything, either. drums fingers

I recognize the phone number–her trainer’s been quite easy to deal with for a long-distance buyer. And that pedigree to me is saying “pick me up as a sport horse prospect–I even have a good name already!”

I love Unltd. Warranty. What an eye she has; so soft and kind, not to mention her other attractive qualities. She would come and live with me if she weren’t so far away. :frowning:

Fingerlakes Flu!

Ok.

I’m going to see about getting another one, seems I have the Fingerlakes flu, too. IF I can swing shipping, maybe 2, but not sure I can right before Christmas. So, Louise, of the most deserving/needing of homes:

I am looking at Red Tail’s Wish, Fisher Island and if Redemption’s price dropped to like zero! Hah.

Help me pick!

Louise- I have to agree with you… why pay $1000 for one horse to be a pasture puff when with that amount, 2 or 3 could be saved…? I don’t know. Something just doesn’t sit well with me with paying $1000 for a horse that is now in need of serious vet care whose trainer is not being easy to deal with… especially when there are numerous FREE horses on there who are just as deserving of a loving retirement home… I don’t know. I guess if it were my decision, I’d pick out another horse in need and pray that the trainer was bluffing about sending the horse to PR (or that the syndicate and/or breeder came thru for him)

Can we start an emergency fund with FLTAP for Louise, etc., to draw on this week for shipping or foster care whatever for horses in need?
I WIll gladly send my $50.

THat not only sounds like a good idea but one that could help Patriot AND other horses!

Any of you gals willing to help a Canuk get the paperwork in order if I decide to get one? All I need is a Coggins and health papers signed by a federal vet…may require me sending money to one of you to either give to trainer or vet…may require help to gently remind owner to call vet to get papers in order…If you can help, pm me, please please. I don’t expect any one to be out of pocket, so I can send $$ for vet fee for papers etc.

WOW Two more? Now we will both have four!!

I say Red Tail and Fisher!!

I know, I know… the heart and the brain are in a constant battle! I just hope the trainer will come to his senses, because I can’t stand the idea of giving up on this deserving boy.

oooo, I’m tempted to get one and have it jump in the shipment with yours! PM me if you inquire about shipping…

I think that Redemption might have a home. At least, the trainer indicated that they were hopeful when I was there last Saturday.

I just called the trainer regarding Red Tail’s Wish. I’ll pick her up on Friday (unless someone beats me to her before then) - that’s as soon as I can get there.

I’m consideing another one…I have a couple that are on my short list. I’ve made a couple of calls to the trainer of Unlimited Warranty, but no return calls yet. I have the room and a 2 horse trailer. If I’m going to pick up one, I may as well fill the trailer  Wonder if my hubby will notice a couple of extra horses in the barn

“New horses, honey? What are you talking about? They’ve always been here, you’re just confused.”

*STILL WAITING to hear from the shipper. Now we’re looking at Friday or Saturday.

This is always an anxious time of year for me. So many of these horses I “know” in some way or another and I wonder what their fates are once they’ve left the track. In years past, they would fly off the track as soon as they were available, that’s how desirable they are. Needless to say, times have changed and gorgeous, sound, young TBs are hard-pressed to find homes off the track.

I agree that every one of these animals is deserving and the trainers who are more concerned about the welfare of the animals rather than the welfare of their wallets should be worked with. KP, Me Me Anna, and Midnight Secret (be still my heart…) especially pull at my heartstrings because they have done everything that’s been asked of them for many, many years and have the earnings to prove it.

I believe that Me Me Anna may have a new home in Louisiana: I’m waiting to hear on a price for shipping before her prospective new owner gives the green light.

I have heard from the breeder of KP, a very, very nice man who is unable to make room for him on “an already overcrowded farm”, but he is willing to contribute to his purchase price if need be.

To poster her mentioned Silent Reflection, I can attest that she’s a sweet filly, very pretty and still growing! Her trainer is easy to work with and I’m sure wants to find her a great home. She just doesn’t want to be a race horse.
