Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks

I also have happy tears in my eyes for KP

Thank you to everyone who has helped KP and so many of the FL finest! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Spyglass, I took Cope with Three’s photo and he looked just beautiful to me. He was poulticed for no particular reason, just as many race horses are on a daily basis. I believe his trainer said he had a small scratch so that is why he had the bandage. He was so cute because he wouldn’t take the peppermint from me but once I handed it to his groom, he kindly took it from his groom. He was very calm and well behaved for his photo shoot. He certainly would be noticed in a show ring with all his chrome!

I’m going to shoot an email to one of the sportswriters at the Democrat and Chronicle, who does seem to follow racing. Let’s see if he’ll do an article about a magnificent horse, people who care, and a new life.

And, I’m going to issue a challenge to spa4horses. You did such a wonderful job with KP. Can you do the same for Midnight Secret?

No strings on this horse. He’s free. We just need to find him a home, and quickly since the track is closing so soon. He’s got more starts that KP, and, he’s older. He’s just as deserving of a wonderful new home.

MS has the same head and expression as my old TB. Hoping he finds himself a nice retirement home too, just like KP.

Was just on the Buff News site looking for some info… I have contacts in the advertising department, gonna see if I can track any writers down that may be willing to give some attention to the story.

Joe Drape is the NY Times reporter who did a great story on Tour of the Cat and his fall from greatness. He also does The Rail blog.

His email is on this form
http://www.nytimes.com/gst/emailus.html

Also think about local TV, KP would make great footage.

I just sent this thread and some info to the Blood Horse…they are going to read up on it.

Duh! I’m forgetting the obvious here. This was a gift that the posters on the COTH forum played a great part in giving.

The Chronicle of the Horse needs to do an article about it, since it is their BB.

Love these stories and am really impressed by breeders and owners who step up and help out. The FL group of volunteers always impresses me and of course COTH members who step up in time of need. I hope his story does get published as these feel good stories do a lot to raise public awareness. Now we need some pics of him in his new home:D

O M G if this is not the gangliest, cutest chestnut beast I have seen in a long time.

Does he roar? I’ve never heard the term “flip his palate”…

Louise, that’s a double “duh” with me!

I did write the NY Times and am in the process of contacting the Finger Lakes Times.

I’ve written to the D&C, and tried to place a bug in the Chronicle’s ear.

Midnight Secret, Clery’s Contender and Fisher Island: this is a huge vote of confidence from the trainer that he is listing these horses here.

I have a love affair with Midnight Secret…have had a crush for a long time…and the others look adorable!

Let’s give him reason to continue his confidence!

Well, this is not good. Does anyone else have a shipper leaving this week? I don’t think Lucky to Cope’s trainer is leaving until the track closes (I’ll call to confirm), but I would rather have him out of there sooner rather than later.

The ONLY way I’ve heard any of this despite two phone messages is on here from EquineLVR. I am NOT at all happy with Double L right now.

Working on Shipping for us…

I left Louie a VM… to see if he can still come once he gets his truck repaired. He also send he would overnight our money back if we needed it for another shipper.

If anyone has a shipment in the Colorado area, or can hook up close, please post. We have three that have been “stood up” by the shipper.

He is cute as a button - reminds me of my chestnut TB Conrad. He has that same flat croup, lovely color and the same eye.

I also wondered what ‘flip his palate’ means.

That would be great, but I’d really appreciate he call or e-mail, especially since the trainer was left hanging until I called (I think he did plan to talk to Rocky and Western Buff’s trainer as well.) If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t have heard anything, so thank you for that! I’d be worried sick by now.

I put a listing on uShip to see if anyone can do it sooner. I think Lucky to Cope’s trainer is not leaving until the last day, but I’d really like have him (and all of them!) home before the really crap weather hits. If I get a bid I can ship him out–also I can ask if the hauler can do Colorado (or if not, if they could pick up any other horses for delivery between New York and Michigan, HINT HINT PEOPLE, lots of lovely horses left, fire-sale prices…)

I told you that I had faith and just felt in my heart that Patriot would be going home with you. It was’nt just some nice words, it was from the heart!

You can count on that - lots of pictures! Thank you for shining a light on this iron horse, and your awesome volunteer group pictures. FL is a prototype for other regions!

I knew Slammer when he was at Aqueduct. He was a nice horse and he could run a bit too. I’m happy he’s with someone I “know” via CoTH!

If Old Friends has sufficient funding for Patriot, I want to re-affirm my pledge of $50 to FLTAP. They do such good work and deserve every bit of praise the media might give them.

Someone with vet experience can confirm, but I think it’s that his soft palate may be too long and occasionally flap around and block his airway when he’s breathing hard - my dog had that issue and it can be corrected surgically, but maybe not even an issue if he’s no longer racing.

OMG he is seriously cute! You can google palate flipping - they often grow out of it by the age of 4…
