Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks

I echo Linny–if Patriot’s purchase and shipment to Old Friends is covered, I’d like to redirect my pledge to FLTAP, preferably so another old campaigner can be retired.

And I MAY have a new shipper who can haul tomorrow, at least to Michigan–I dont’ think they go as far as Colorado, but I asked.

Here are some shipping companies out of the Chronicle classifieds, not sure what they have in any runs east and west but maybe worth a call:

Nationwide: 719-392-1888
Brookledge: 800-523-8143
Hubbards: 800-888-5914
Equine Express: 800-545-9098
All State Horse Express --800-451-7696 (I used them a few yrs ago from MN to NY and NY to MN)

If they can’t help, maybe they could refer another shipper. There are others too, mostly doing east coast runs such as Judge Manning 800-JUDGE-NY, whom I highly recommend.

It’s all in the initials

How about if Midnight Secret’s journey ends with retirement at MSj’s wonderful farm ?

Just a suggestion …

Maybe we should rename the thread since KP is going to Old Friends to focus on Dec. 5/Saturday as deadline for lots of horses and that many are free?

I know people have cross-posted in Eventing and H/J and they may not click on the Karakorum Patriot to PR title.

Someone please take Fisher Island, he is so cute.

Good idea.

Yes, someone please take Fisher Island! What a great expression he has…The condition he was described to have is fixable, and it may not bother him other then when galloping, a ppe will tell more…

Video Replays of Races

Also wanted to mention that for all your FLakes OTTB horse owners, you can watch replays of the races on their website. Fun to see and you can even order copies if interested…

www.fingerlakesracetrack.com

Go to the racing section and then to video replays. You will need to know the info on date and race number…

Okay, one way or another it looks like I have a ride…

Ride to KY

Fisher Island is coming to KY - there is a truck leaving this weekend so pick your guys and get a space! I’ll have more details on it later this evening.

No no no!

The ONLY reason I was willing to buy Karakorum Patriot was the rumor that he was going to PR and he had Hyperion in his bloodlines. I honestly did not want another horse.

I am currently 64 yrs old, my youngest horse is 17 yrs old and I fully expect him to live another 10 yrs. I would like to be able to bury him on the farm, which means I will have to maintain the farm for at least 10 more yrs and I’ll be 74 yrs old.

I was a 2-3 pack/day smoker for 40 yrs and, while I quit almost 7 yrs ago, I know there has a been a lot of damage done. My Mother, also a smoker for a long time period, died of smoking-related problems at 74 yrs old.

While I have the time and space for 2 more horses I just cannot afford to take anymore on. Unless a horse is too difficult to handle, they have a forever home here.

Also, I no longer ride so the possibility of retraining and reselling is not an option.

Much as I would love to give more of these horses a wonderful home, I know I really and truly am unable to do so. :frowning: :frowning:

All right, a nice lady who does runs in the East and Midwest is going to haul Lucky to Cope on Friday. She has room for a second horse and is going along the Thruway to 80, so if you live along there and were thinking about one of these lovely horses, now is the time…PM me for her number.

Karakorum Patriot

I went over to the track this morning to see Karakorum Patriot and was met by Missy. BTW she is a very delightful gal. He is a lovely bay horse and he is certainly more than 15.3. He’s a lot closer to 16.1 but it’s all withers. He most certainly does have the kindest eye, lovely head, great demeanor and presence. I can surely see why foundationmare loved him.

I fed him about 4 carrots, which he took quite gentlemanly, and about 4 peppermints, which he wasn’t too sure about. Some of the peppermints did hit the dirt.

I also told Missy that COTH people were trying to get some media coverage on KP as it would be great PR for not only Old Friends but showing that there are some very responsible breeders and syndicates. I do hope coverage can be obtained, locally and nationally.

I understand that a trainer who is on the FLTAP board will be taking him to her farm until transportation can be arranged to Old Friends at Cabin Creek: The Bobby Frankel Division.

Now, Midnight Secret has earnings of $212,623. What is the chance that Old Friends at Cabin Creek: The Bobby Frankel Division could take him as well? There is no purchase price as MS is free to a good home and he could share a ride up to Old Friends.

IF I can get an address on Old Friends I am planning on sending them the $500 that I had originally offered for KP. After I finish this post, I’ll try googling them to see if I can get an address.

Adding to this:

The official opening for Old Friends at Cabin Creek: The Bobby Frankel Division is slated for July 22, 2010. I checked the first 3 sites googled and there is no address but it does state that the Cabin Creek farm is leased by the Old Friends Retirement in KY so I’m guessing any donations now would have to go there.

I can’t get it to work! I hit the race number, a small box pops up and then disappears! Anyone else having problems?

To all of you who have offered to donate to FLTAP, I want to thank you very much. I do want to explain the situation to you, though, so you know where your money is going.

The Trainer’s Listing volunteers are under the umbrella of FLTAP, but we do our own thing, as it were. We run the BB, we take the listings, etc. We don’t get any money from the Adoption Program to help with these horses.

The Adoption Program doesn’t buy horses. All horses that go there are donated.

It’s kind of a Catch-22. The money that you donate to FLTAP is much appreciated, but it won’t help the horses on the Trainer’s Listings, it will help the horses at the Adoption Center. You can’t donate to help the horses on the Trainer’s Listings, because we are, primarily, a listing service to make it easier for buyer and seller to connect, and to get the information about horses for sale out to a larger audience.

Confused yet?

msj, I asked spa4horses, both here, and in a PM, if there was any way that her/his intervention could help Midnight Secret. I do hope that this thread is still being read, but I have had no response to either message.

That is a very generous donation, msj!

Do we have any more information on Midnight Secret…approximate height or temperament?

Congrats Turtle Bayou on Fisher Island!!!

Is there any way we could donate to the volunteers? Are there supplies you need? Gas cards? You guys are wonderful!!

That is a very kind offer, caryledee. However, anything that you gave directly to us wouldn’t be tax-deductible. And, I, for one, would just not feel right accepting money from you guys.

I think it’s something that we have to work on this winter. We need a way to have a fund available through the Adoption Program to help the Trainer’s Listing horses, if needed.

I just tried it, and while the box did drop it came back up as a video player. It could be the site when you tried it.
Should you want a copy, you can call 585-924-3232 ext 272. Duane is the person that does the archiving…

Would there be a way to get Midnight Secret donated to the Adoption Program, if he’s free to good home? Or is he more a pasture-puff than adoption project? Do you guys have room?

And again, trailer leaving early Friday morning, she’s based out of NY, has room, PM me.
