I don’t want to sound like a grouch here, but I’d hate for everyone to bombard all these breeders for money or wanting them to take the horse back. Smaller TB breeders still have 25-30 foals per year… in 10 years that would be 250-300 horses- no one has the resources to take back all these horses after their track careers are over… and I’m sure while they may WANT to help the horses, it simply isn’t feesible… and what makes them be able to help one horse and not another? It would be a difficult decision. So
I guess since I work for a breeder, I have an idea of how their operations are run… and while they would feel bad declining helping a horse they had bred, it just might not be feesible for them to take on 1… let alone the 25-30 that they had bred that year…

I for one am really glad that with the internet we have more ability to contact people and also to persuade people to be a little more responsible for their animals. Of course, every breeder couldnt take care of every horse they’ve ever bred but maybe they could cut back a little on the breeding and spend the money instead on the horses that are already here.
I worked at a breeding farm in NY after college and it was kind of sad, in a way; most of the mares did not have much to recommend them, the babies didnt sell for much and I always questioned the ethics of the whole thing, where most of those horses would end up. Its definitely not a business for me.
I wish I had the means to adopt one of them right now. Maybe next year! I looked up Fisher Island’s record- wow, he was trained by Zito and placed in a MSW at Belmont in the summer and now to end up a freebie so fast. I remember KP- so glad he will have a home
