Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks

This trainer has GOT to leave the track soon for a job in another state, and he can’t take his horses with him.

The first one surprises the heck out of me. Rockywithattitude is gorgeous. He’s had people look at him, but no takers. Come on guys, surely someone want a horse who looks like he could be a perfect hunter!

His other horse is Western Buff. She’s only three, and 15.3 so she should grow some more. She’s BLACK and she seemed like a sweetheart when we took her pictures. She needs some groceries (she’s new to this trainer and he’s working on it) and she needs someone to love her.

Take a look, and open your heart to one of these two – Please?

Miss the Black Friday crunch – Shop for one of Finger Lakes Finest instead![/QUOTE]

Louise, that’s the best reason I’ve ever heard given for hitting the backside of the track to see all those lovely horses.

Louise- Do you know if Rockywithattitude has any old injuries or limitations?

Also, any additional info on Rock and Roll Roan?

Live Action sounds LOVELY but I decided he might not work out for me. Huge bummer.

Damn! Those are some seriously nice looking ‘crunch time’ beasties! I might be talked into warehousing a beastie if someone down south needs a place to put one for a while, but I can’t keep one this year…

Can’t someone help? I know what it’s like to not know where you will be heading after the track…

My mom will always send a dribble towards transport or whatever.

I’ve had a hard time coming to COTH lately, for a few reasons, one of them being that all the threads on horses needing places to go is absolutely breaking my heart.

Even harder as FL is not far from me and I wish there were more we could do to help out.

Also wish more of our local community here would realize the gems that are hiding on the FL track. I know so many people who seem to wait for the dealer or a few local pros to pick them up and then resell them, seems so silly when you can hop on the thruway and buy them directly.

Hoping these two find a soft place to land.

It’s heartbreaking to sit on the sidelines and watch. I think Rocky and Buff look lovely in their pictures and the FL beasties that came to me looked even better in person (and that doesn’t even touch on their wonderful personalities)!

Seriously, if anyone has any interest - CALL THE TRAINER! The volunteers and folks here can only do/say so much… The trainers want to find homes for these horses. They aren’t playing games and they want to talk to you. They are really running out of time! In my experience, the trainers and vets were all very forthcoming and open.

Spyglass, we only see these guys for a very few minutes, while we are doing the listings. All that we know of them is in the listings.

The best way to find out more about the horses is to call the trainers and ask questions.

But, and this isn’t aimed at you, Spyglass, but as general advice, only call if you are interested. And, if you make an appointment with a trainer, please show up, or call and let them know that you can’t make it after all. All too often, a trainer will wait and wait at the track and the individual who made the appointment never shows up.

Spyglass–I saw Rocky when I was there. Believe me, if I could figure out any way to get that horse, he would be here with me! I don’t know, of course, if he has any issues, but he looked clean legged to me and seemed like a very sweet horse. He would definitely be one I would take a chance on. I just have 5 horses right now, and there is absolutely no way for me to pay for one more.

I have been looking at Rocky… It would put me up to 4 OTTB’s… Did you think when you saw him he looked behind at the knee? I showed the pic to my trainer and that was her only concern…

I also need to figure out how to get him to CO…thats a long trip from NY.

Western Bluff is beautiful!!

It is a heartbreaking time of year - so many nice horses looking for homes, and only so much space… but if you can find room in your barn (and heart) for an OTTB, you’ll be so thankful you did!!!

Isn’t she cute? She looks like she should be a small horse with that sweet face and her winter fuzzies coming on - but she’s a big girl! She has a very nice baby-face

Wow! Rocky looks really nice! I just emailed his listing to a couple of people who might be interested. I hope he finds a good situation.

(I do not need another horse, I do not need another horse, I do not need another horse…)

I can’t believe Rocky’s still there, a nice tall sound young gelding for that money! Come on people, someone take that one home and have some fun!

And that Western Buff… check out the shoulder on that girl! Look at the first picture of her and imagine her with another inch or two (she is only 3!), another 200 pounds, and a muscled up butt and arched neck… she’s going to be impressive looking! I’d be willing to bet money that she has a freaky jump in her too!

I just saw the new listings and there were a couple on there that made me catch my breath!

For those of you who are partial to the older guys, a couple goodies just showed up! I worked with Boston Raider, Karakorum Patriot and Rock and Roll Roan last year and they are solid, sound horses.

Karakorum Patriot, in particular, is an iron horse. In his racing life he has earned well over $300,000 and could probably keep going. He’s as honest and classy as the day is long and he so deserves to get a wonderful post-racetrack life. He’s a big boy, gentle and wonderful.

Same with Boston Raider: solid and honest, a real war horse. These older guys are still racing because they CAN!

Rock and Roll Roan was my daughter-in-law’s favorite horse to gallop!, absolutely looked forward to getting on him in the mornings. She describes him as being a very powerful, beautiful mover, very forward and willing. He’s also a bit of a goofball with lots of personality and nice to work around.

Exchange Artist is one of her groom’s/ex. rider’s favorite, described as a nice ride and very, very sweet.

For everyone who is looking at these horses, please, please, please send the links to everyone you know who may be seriously in the market for a new horse (or two). There is little time to climb off the fence!

Many thanks to all of you who have taken a FL horse into your lives and extol their virtues to those who are considering it. Please continue to spread the good news!

Speaking of extolling the virtues of Fingerlake horses, here’s one of my FL boys showing this September! Got to love the FL ponies

I have someone who is interested in Live Action - could you PM why it is not working out for you?

No, I didn’t see him as being back at the knee. I think his hoof angle needs to be corrected a bit as his toe looked a little long/heels low to me. But that’s an easy fix.

If I recall, someone shipped a FL horse to CO last year; maybe she could give you some insight on shipping costs? Louise or maunder, do you remember who that was?
