He’s here! Big, strong bay colt born today around 3:30-4pm. Dropped in the field. I was just showing a horse for sale at 3pm, finished up in time to feed at 4, and there was an extra set of legs ready for dinner!!! Sneaky Sheza! Her milk was white this morning, but still testing in the 18-20 range and she has foaled at 30+ previously. Udder was not completely full this morning. No wax, no dripping. I checked on the mares around 1pm and they were happy eating hay, she didn’t appear restless.
Surprise! We had to fight off the other mares, especially Midge, who claims she has visitation rights. Thankfully all went well, colt was already standing when we found him but not yet dry. He’s hit all the milestones, lively and nursing great. Sheza seems proud of herself, also none the worse for wear. Not a damp patch of sweat anywhere on her, could barely tell she rolled. His new owners are thrilled, and I will update with a name when they decide.
Edited to add 11pm night check pics. Unfolding already.
