Unfolding nicely! Still waiting on a name.
I always, always wonder how THAT MUCH leg is folded up in the mare and the weight, how that has got to feel carrying like they do. or birthing for that matter. Very leggy foal.
I imagine the great-with-foal mares with every step are saying, “Eh! Eh! EHHHHHH!”
There are 2 extremely pregnant Lusitano mares where I board Lola. I just feel so awful for them. One is due anytime and the other is due in mid March.
We are home from the hospital! Still dealing with tendon laxity (and he can’t have too much exercise because of how his hock x rays still look) but he is getting stronger. It will still take time but we are getting somewhere!
What an adorable face! Good to hear that he was able to come home. Those tendons will strengthen up with a little more time.
Welcome home! And I see you have a Sheppie type dog who is overjoyed at the very important job of being nanny as the new foal continues to grow and strengthen
Welcome home, little dude!
He’s the sweetest guy and loves his new little brother. The only problem is keeping him out of his milk!
Hurray, Fuego! What a great update!
And congrats, EventerAJ!
Hip hip hooray for Fuego! Welcome home, little buddy! (Golly, he is cute!! Those teeny ears and nose just kill me!) Looks like he’s already got a good babysitter.
Clearly you need to tuck him into bed w you at night. CLEARLY.
The neighbors in the adjoining paddock seem enthralled.
I won’t ever forget the sight of that little pink nose the night he was born! Everything about him is still pretty small. I’m okay with it if he doesn’t quite reach mom’s size. She’s a 16.3hh AQHA racehorse
God only lets us grow until we are perfect and some of us don’t take as long . He just might be travel sized. That is a lot of mama
Sydney says, “Excuse me. I would like to not be pregnant any more. This is no longer fun.”
~60 days to go, give or take a couple of weeks!
Several COTH members know that I’m a feed company nutritionist, but others probably don’t. At any rate, I thought this thread was the best place to celebrate my re-formulation of my company’s equine line. Not least of all because my sweet Arielle and her 2021 filly ended up on one of our bags!
I won’t even pretend that this post is anything other than a brag. I’ve been working on this project for almost 2 years now.
Congratulations, that’s awesome!
Is your mare still holding out, LaurieB?
We’re at day 290 here so a while still to go.
@weixiao, yes. Unfortunately this isn’t normal for this mare. She’s usually 8-9 days over. Today is day 362.
Sending good thoughts your way!
