Frivolous thread - what color bling browband?

No, not until she is closer to ready to show. She has a couple slightly less blingy browbands already.

Here is an 18" gold clincher, and they have stainless as well: https://ffequestrian.com/products/straight-gold-clincher?_pos=1&_sid=5bbd0b4cd&_ss=r

EDIT: These go up to 20" https://warmbloodtackstore.com/products/clincher-browband-warmblood-or-draft-size

The piping on the bonnet with the blingy browband is too much IMO. That’s why I’m always on the hunt for a black bonnet with no (or same color) piping.

My opinion is worth the paper it’s written on though…

Really like the colors on him. LOVE that they are real pearls!!! I’d love it even better if it were clinched down tight. Is there anyway you could sew that string of pearls down so it doesn’t wiggle around on the leather?

OOOHHH!!! A “plain brown wrapper” is not mahogany bay, IMO!!! Mahogany bay is bright and not common like brown bay is!. My last horse was brown/black/bay and this one seems to be pretty boring in color except for in winter when he’s blacker. See my horse pics for “a plain brown wrapper” coloring.

Mahogany bay is bright and stunning, I agree with you there… but I meant in the no chrome sense - when they’re bay with no white whatsoever and are “boring” (not that I ever think that!! Bays are my favorite) :+1:

Bays are my favorite too! I had a dark bay that was almost black…and if it weren’t for his mealy nose you’d call him black at first glance. He was gorgeous.

I currently have four bay equines. One is a 13.2 ponymule who is a light bay, with typical mule-tone light underbelly. His stockings really stand out. He always makes me think of a can-can dancer. As soon as his abscess finishes growing out he’s starting dressage lessons with me. (it blew out the top and he’s just been grazing with the herd for the past 10 months, next trim he’ll be standing on a normal hoof 4sq)

I’m little and muscular and he is too. We are going to look good together!~. OH…and i have the most perfect browband in my shopping cart for him. (putting the cart before the horse)

Anybody know of custom brow bands for a Fairfax bridle?

Not me, but how are you liking that bridle? Got any pictures of it on your horse? I’ve been eyeballing one of them for a long time but not much literature out there for me to oogle at.

Delfina Saddlery has a tutorial on their site. It’s pretty easy to do once you get the hang of it. All of mine are sewed in now.

I ended up ordering from equiture. They had so many different beautiful options, I couldn’t decide and basically blindly picked between 3. I would’ve ordered 10 if I were independently wealthy :money_mouth_face: I haven’t remembered to bring it out to the barn yet, but here it is on my carpet!

You know you owe us a picture of it on your horse, now.

Don’t worry, I took it home and tightened it that night. Last thing I need is the end coming loose while riding and it hits him in the forehead

LOL. Good! so…how did you make it? i have lots of strands of real pearls, of all kinds of colors. i’d be willing to give it a go.

I’m not JBCool but I’ve made my own browbands as well. I followed Delfina’s tutorial:

It’s very straight forward. The only issue I ran into is it is hard to push a needle through leather forty-some-odd times - but I was working with a non-Delfina browband.

Making browbands is a lot of fun. I enjoyed selecting beads and making the strings.

I also used Delfina’s video as instructions. The beads are strung on craft wire and I use a large needle to run the wire underneath the padding into the loop where the crownpiece runs. I have crimp beads at the end of the beads (inside the channel) and something like a toggle clasp + crimp bead once it is inside the loop to keep it from pulling back through. Sometimes I will also actually knot the wire under the crimp beads. Then, along the channel, I have tiny loops of wire running beneath that padding to hold it in place up or down. A hemostat is your best friend for these things.
With the pearl and diamond one, those diamonds just don’t quite fit inside the channel so it may look looser than it is.

Here you go. It fits my mare very well. She’s in between cob and horse size on a lot of things. Horse size is usually way too big and she on the last or second to last hole on cob size. It looks basically brand new after 2 years. As much as I really like this bridle I’m not sure if I would have ever bought one new. A saddle fitter gave me this bridle after accidentally leaving a mark on my new saddle while he was adjusting it. The fact that he could afford to give it to me tells you how ridiculous the markup is. But definitely worth it if you have the $$$ or can find one used.

Beautiful mare!! I’m such a sucker for bays with extra crisp black on their ears.

The design of the bridle is very interesting. Your photo is much better looking (IMHO) than the product photos in terms of fit. I admit I didn’t pursue buying one because the photos of the models weren’t even fitted correctly and I was worried that was representative of the sizing versus the model since it was across several different horses.

I had a Fairfax with the drop noseband. They have a really detailed fitting chart, and I worked with someone from a UK tack shop (can’t remember, this was like 5 years ago) so they put together the right size pieces and it fit beautifully.

I’d hoped to use it on my new horse, but with the browband being screwed on to the crown piece, it just did not fit her quite correctly. They are nice bridles but I don’t think I would spend that amount of money again given all the other nice anatomical options out there.

I’ve been enjoying all these photos! My mom gave me one for Christmas this past year. I love it.

On the horse! I LOVE it, the quality is beautiful. It may be a bit more… eye catching than I was really going for initially, but he’s a plain bay with no markings, so we need some eye catching!

The downside of the world’s most laidback OTTB is that he was absolutely not going to pose.
