Frying Pan Park/COTH get-together

I will be there–I just moved from CA to DC this summer (and haven’t updated my profile yet–oops!).

I haven’t been to Frying Pan before, though I’ve driven close enough to see the signs. (Can anyone post idiot-proof directions? It amazes and amuses my friends that I can remember a 25 fence course easily, but I get lost the minute I get into a car…)

I’ll be happy to see if I can give you a hand with ditches. My basic philosophy of ditches claims that horses regularly canter on a 12-foot stride, so a ditch is really no physical effort for them. We just have to ride in such a way as to minimize the ditch–in our minds and the horses.

I believe the 7th is the first outing, to be followed up again sometime in November.

Those pics of the jumps on the DRPC site are great!

Are you really going to be there til 4?

I MAY be finished with my team competition (on Music) by noon, so I could MAYBE get Belle out there by 3.

Shall I’ll bring hot dogs instead?.. I made Chuck stop by on the way home last week to make sure they had BBQ’s (couldn’t remember). They’re near the lower outside ring.

And of course I would never “take” so I’d have to be covered again…and again…and again…

YES JAGold you come and PLAY! I have NEVER met anyone from this board and am so excited to put some faces to names I’ve got a 22 year old and a coming 3 year old. I’ve been debating on who to bring. Ozzy (2) would gain SO much from a casual outing to see a x-country course, but Whiskey is my retired event horse…and at 22 still a TOTAL handful. If I could bring both i would gladly hand Whiskey off to some unsuspecting BBer

Colin, I was heartbroken that I missed the opportunity to miss some of the “festive” members of the board this weekend, but drama and unforeseen circumstance kept me away. I would have LOVED to have been there to help you appreciate the fine cheese of ETBW, and even more giddy to help you an SU take on that tap at Mosby’s…

and ETBW, it sounds to me like you may be one of the fabulous people in this world that restores my faith in humanity. I’m so looking forward to meeting you and all the others. If there’s ANYTHING i can bring (besides, as my signature says, my willingness to humiliate myself, and a sense of humor) PLEASE let me know

I am going to come and watch!

Heidi, if you fly down, Frying Pan is right around the corner from Dulles.

“With horse” is how I’ll be travelling, but non riding folks are more than welcome to come point and laugh at us!
Besides, we’ll need someone to help pick us up off the ground when our trusty steeds dump us

When they are ACTAULLY JUMPED, the spaces are filled in with brush. It basically rides like a funny looking coop.

It doesn’t matter if your new horse isn’t up to the actual jumps yet, it will do him worlds of good to participate and mingle! Pockets has never been on an outside course but will greatly benefit from the exposure.

From what I recall of FP years ago, the jumps are all designed with a range of ability in mind. From 2’ to much more demanding, we will take them one at a time and enjoy sharing each other’s knowledge.

(Besides, I hope to have a crock pot of Mr. Wing’s barbecue to share!)

Pockets will be far to smug if KS isn’t there to strike fear into his teensy Appy heart

Jordan needs another outing as well!

Park where you can, rally round the infamous RV - (Remember, Alec found us, you can too!)

Sunday works for me, if I can scrounge transportation…(hint, hint)

What I do, I do for my horse, and thus I do for myself~me

MargaretF you posted about sharing horses…I’m about to just let someone have mine for the day. He can be quite a handful in a samll group, not scary just won’t stand and if he’s not the first to jump in a group, he never even sees the jump b/c he just runs right over it. Been told in clinics before to “get that crazy horse jumping” and “I said to jump the fence at 550 mpm not 620, what are you thinking”…they act like it’s all my idea. You’re more then welcome to ride my guy if you want a little excitement.

Before I forget:

Is this going to be a kind of a potluck lunch/picnic? Or just a plain get together? Should I bring something besides the horses?

And I"m SO excited!
This is going to be Such a hoot!

I’m probably bringing Mr. Clive’s Mom and the dog (not necessarily in that order) - so those with hold-out SO’s can be assurred that at least Mr. Wings and Mr. Mom will be there to talk Non-Horse.
